In my opinion this is one of the finest spring and piston air rifles available. A noteworthy feature of the Air Arms spring guns which gives them a distinctive profile is the fact that the barrel is positioned so that the bore is concentric with the compression cylinder. This means the port at the end of the cylinder which channels air to the pellet is in a central position rather than an offset position (the port being offset from centre is common to most other designs). I don't know how much difference it makes in practice but for efficient transfer of energy from the spring to the pellet this radially symmetric arrangement seems to make sense.
The TX200 MKII is so under rated by the PCP crowd in my opinion. The PCP crowd claims "It's to much work practicing the proper and consistent Artillery Hold." Yes it is more difficult to be consistent with Springer than a PCP. But that's not to say they won't get the job done if you do your part. As a proud owner of an A.A. TX200 MKIII I can tell you the thrill of shooting a high quality springer is well worth the extra effort. I have just made a commitment to myself to try and get to as many HTF competitions as I can this year. So far I've only shot one and that was the Pyramid Air Cup. What a blast! If anyone knows a good source to find HFT competitions please give a guy a hand. They seem to be hard to find. I'm looking in the Midwest, East Central, and Southern states. Thanks,
I have ZERO experience shooting a PCP. The one and only HFT Shoot I've ever been to (100+ shooters) I kept hearing that same theme over and over again by PCP shooters. However the PCP shooters I spoke with all proclaimed praise on the Springer shooters for their commitment to dedication to a more hold sensitive gun. Their words unanimously, not mine. One PCP shooter put it best. He said "I really don't want to learn the springer Artillery Hold. Too technical." I thought that statement was very interesting to me. I'm going to my second ever Shoot weekend after next. Looking forward to getting "SCHOOLED" by experienced competitor on what more I need to work on. I've reached out to a few springer competitors. Everyone has been so encouraging. Hopefully by 2019 I'll get to the point I'll have a score I can be proud of. lol Happy Shooting!
I fired a weihrauch springer the other day. It was impressive too. I need a springer to leave overseas. Use it a couple months a year. This one looks good. It's a 50 yard rat and bird rifle. In .22. maybe the Prosport ?
As a spring gun Fanatic, this is awesome! With all the pcp's being sold,a Lot of folks don't seem to realize just how Accurate and Beautiful a good springer can be! To me it seems as though they have soul and personality. I'm lucky enough to own an AA Pro Sport in .177,a Walther LGU,several HW's,Dianas and a bunch of others. My pcp's would be sold before I got rid of my springers.Once Again, Thanks Soo much for the video Steve...and that was some Fine shootin'! Mike.
Michael Leeman That’s a great point. I haven’t shot an airgun in years but needed to get into it. Having shot a friend’s low end PCP....it felt exactly like that....no soul....so I bought an Air Arms TX 200HC. It has that special feel to it, is accurate and the rest is down to me. I haven’t enough experience of high end PCPs but get what you mean.
Hi, I do agree with you that good springers have soul. I am about to buy one tx200 .177 but my friends tell me that those springers kill any kind of scopes sooner or later because of the recoil it produces. Do you agree with that? Because I do not want my expensive scope be destroyed. Thanks
You need to check your scopes are sold as being recoil tolerant. My only gripe with springers is not seeing the pellet strike. It's all well feeling the recoil but at normal airgun ranges the pellet strikes the target before the sight picture settles down again. You then look for the hole or see the end of the spinner moving etc. I've shot for over 45 years now and I feel pcp technology is the holy grail of what can be achieved to be honest. I watch through my scope the pellet flight and impact on the target, plus with easy repeatable unbelievable accuracy.
After years of lusting over this rifle and not having a springer for many many years i pulled the trigger on a fully tuned wallnut stock tx200 today 😍 im Pumped to be able to shoot springers again. Im never more relaxed or in the moment then when behind a spring rifle.
Nice Job and great videography as always! IMO the top six "medium" powered spring-piston rifles in production today are Air Arm's Pro-Sport & TX200, Weihrauch's HW97 & HW98, Walther's LGU & LGV. Please consider reviewing the other 5 contenders. Would be great to see how they stack up against each other.
Great review Steve, I love Spring Piston guns. The Air Arms are at the top of the list. I have the TX200 Hunters Carbine in both calibers and the Pro Sport in both calibers as well. My .177 loves the AA 8.4 5.2, HN FTT 5.2, CPL in the box. The .22 loves the HN FTT 5.53 best accuracy are the GTO same with the Pro Sport that I have. My Air Arm springers have all been tuned by John Thomas ( John in PA) I did a hunt with Jim Chapman and I used the TXHC .22 in that hunt with great success ( Hunting with Spring Pistons Airguns ) Thank you for reviewing Spring Piston guns, seems like ppl forget how versatile and self contained they are. Once again great review like always.
AoA delivered this AA baby to me around 10 or 12 years ago and it's been a love affair ever since. It has such class, beauty, and accuracy that the very first shot erased what it cost such as one might experience with a delicate fine wine. JUST GORGEOUS!!
Another excellent review and nice to see high end springers getting a nod. I have been wanting to shoot the TX200 ever since I got my Weihrauch HW97K and discovered what a tack driver it is. From what I have read and heard from hardcore FT guys, the HW97K and the TX200 are the two go-to guns in FT. My Weihrauch gets the exact same groups at 25 yards as this TX200 got and does it with, of all things, brown box Crosman domed pellets. It is interesting that both this rifle and the RWS Diana 48 (which I have also shot and is also extremely accurate) both use a release to safe the lever and required using both hands to close the lever while Weihrauch does not use a manual release. Since your sponsoring dealer carries all three rifles it would be fantastic if you could do a head-to-head-to-head comparison of these three superior quality spring guns. But meantime keep producing these airgun reviews. I watch dozens and these are the most thorough and detailed reviews to be found on RU-vid.
@@matthewchastain136 that's the reason I have never got rod of my TX200 mk1, no anti bear trap on the mk1s. Made in 1992 and is still as accurate as anything made today.
You mean you can't shoot it very well !? I can hit my 75 yard spinner no problem. As long as wind is under 10mph, but that's my poor wind calculating skill.👍
This is the year....I've wanted one of these for several years, Thanks Steve for yet another great review. I have this rifle in my cart ready to check out!
Love my tx200hc, I have owned it since buying brand new in 2013 and compete with it regularly, over the years I have added a few mods, Delrin spring guides, also short stroked it, but I have since gone back to standard stroke but these things are built to last, I also recommend buying it in a walnut stock if you don’t mind the extra cost as it reduces weight over the beech.
I have the TX200 Carbine Mk-III version that was built in 2008 according to AA in UK🇬🇧 when sent them the serial number. It also has the threads on the barrel to attach a moderator if possible. it’s still functioning like a champ, and all had to do was replace the piston washer. These air rifle are built to last. Thank you for your awesome review.🤓👍
Recently purchased a refurbished TX200 in .177 and it's amazingly accurate! I have heard that it's got a Walther barrel, so that could explain how well it shoots. If anyone gets a chance, definitely pick one up! My best groups at 25 yards are with JSB Hades, HN Baracuda Green, AA Field, HN FTT, AA Express, and JSB Exact Heavy.
That was an awesome review on a beautiful rifle. The tx will eventually find its way to my gun safe. I love your set up on showing muzzle energy and target energy. Thank you Steve for reviewing some of the better spring guns.
Dang you Steve! Now you have doubly made me regret selling my TX200 a couple of years ago to fund my PCP trials. After I get my custom stock and tuned Hw80 back I may have to pick another Air Arms springer but I need to wait for your Pro Sport review as I did own two TX200s in fact, my first one had a bluing defect and was replaced, but I keep hearing that the PS is a touch better than even the wonderful TX200. Get on that review Steve and let me know ASAP. Plus you and I should try and meet up so I can show off my custom tuned Hw77 I got when I was a teen way back in 1986 and this new Hw80 with a beautiful custom carved walnut stock. Should have that project done by the holidays. Keep up the awesomeness sir!
I've had my Carbine version of the TX200 and it still retains it's astonishing accuracy. In the U.K. we have to be careful of the pellets we load to ensure that we do not exceed 12 foot pounds. If we do it can be confiscated which is why I always use Air Arms' own ammunition.
In Northern Ireland which is UK we have our pellet - air rifles on FAC! We can go over 12 foot pounds if the manufacturer has that facility built in, which leads me to ask does this beautiful rifle get made in a higher spec?
Your dam right it comes from England 🏴 it good to know we still make something so good. I have one. It’s a thing of beautie a piece of art. I had mine about 9 mouths. It’s the tx200hc black walnut. not only is it accurate, heavy, built like a rolls Royce. I can still just get it out and appreciate it. If you want a gun you could pass on to your grandchildren. Out of the box after signing the hawk scope in it put 10 pellets through one hole at twenty yards. I shoot pen dots no more than 2-3mm And I don’t work for air arms. Great review using superdomes
Thanks Steve. Some of the best groups I've ever seen out of a spring gun. Too bad the the cost is starting around $600 for that kind of accuracy. Definitely an enthusiast platform, just not practical for me. Needing value for my dollar until I win the Lottery.
That’s what I am talking about. Thanks Steve. AA is a little pricey for me, though. Currently I am trying to put some money aside for HW 77K. Greetings from Bulgaria
Thanks very much Steve tx200 is a brilliant gun your well impressed great shooting such tight groups I have a tuned hw97k which is a great gun too greetings from N Ireland David 👍
Thanks for this review. It was the "icing on the cake" for me. I just ordered one in .22 cal with the walnut stock. It's not an ultra high-velocity rifle (I have one of those). But DAMN, it is an ultra ACCURATE rifle, and I always have room for one more of those.
The Weihrauch hw97 is my go to gun😎 shot a tx 200 that a friend has as well as a 97k and he too prefers the 97 over the tx. I bought the 97 and never looked back. The gun just feels right in my hands shooting it tha the tx. My club shoots once a month 50 yrd with springer guns only and the 97 are in the top 3along with the tx guns. Can’t go wrong with the tx I just prefer the 97😎
Very nice review! I've had my .22 AA TX200 for a couple of years now and have loaned it to a good friend who has a squirrel problem. Tonight, i paid for another TX200 - but in .177 cal. What a shooter yours is, WOW! I was gonna get an HK97K, but talked myself out of it,
@@jbrou3892 - I already had a TX200 in .22, so I knew what a great shooter it was. Plus, everywhere i looked the HW97K was on back order. BTW, I'm really enjoying the TX200 in .177. i use splatter targets and my longest shot here at my house is about 35 yards. If I take my time, and use a bench rest, i can easily hit the red-colored bullseye.
Another great review Steve! Thanks a lot for showing me! There is so much to learn when i watch your videos! Wish you a great week! And of course: great rifle!
Thanks .. for the nice vedio... but surprisingly you didnt go for 100 yards with it ... its worth a shot... Hope to see that soon on your channel .. to prove that a good and well made springer can go further down the range ... Personally... i have shot gamo shadow ,gammo g magnum igt ,BSA SPITFIRE and many other break barrles at 100 yards ... they did like 3 inch groups or less sometimes (ofcourse we are talking 15 pellets group)... ... hope to see what this one can do ..
With 15-16 fpe of power dropping by half between 0 and 50, Im not comfortable YouTubing springers like this out to 100. Not saying it can't be done, just sayin it's a poor example for a guy to set. Best, Steve
forma perfecta de testar los rifles , agrupacion , velocidad presion del disparador etc etc, sin duda el mejor canal para conocer los rifles de aire, felices fiestas , saludos desde españa
Not in Scotland. When the licence for air guns came out I had to sell my mk3 tx200 for £100 because of all the guns being sold. I had only fired 36 pellets. I hope the idiots in the Scottish government rot in hell.
Great video. I definitely love my PCP air rifles. Just picked up a TX200 HC 22 caliber. Love it!! Yes it's pretty. Walnut stock didn't appear to be completely finished kind of a dry look. Time for some Tru oil to refinish it. And definitely thinking about just putting it on the wall. But that would be a shame. Kind of a conversational piece I suppose. It is damn accurate for spring gun. Definitely the best I've ever shot. This is definitely not my break barrel or my Crosman pump gun I had back when I was a kid LOL. From the mountains and Great Plains in New Mexico God bless.👍✌
Wow. I really owe it to myself to get one of theese as one that enjoys the experience of interacting with mechanical things as well as putting lead on steel.
Great review. Looked at both the tx and 97 inshop - went with the 97kt.. dont like the multiple clicks when u pull the underlever back. One click only on the 97. Both as accurate as each other though..
If you are serious about owning a fine spring type air rifle,..this Air Arms model TX200 has to be on your top 3 rifles list to buy. It is on mine! This one shows us what pure English quality and craftsmanship is, doesn't it?
The TX200 MKII is so under rated by the PCP crowd in my opinion. The PCP crowd claims "It's to much work practicing the proper and consistent Artillery Hold." Yes it is more difficult to be consistent with Springer than a PCP. But that's not to say they won't get the job done if you do your part. As a proud owner of an A.A. Excellent choice of gun. One of the best springers ever! Well worth the extra cost..and it really isn't hard to use with a little practice. I have the .177 hc ,12 ft lb ,mk 3 version. Get the walnut stock too as loads better looking and a little lighter. 👍👍👍
Hello Mr Steve... good to see you again Sir.... been a while I didn’t follow your channel... since I ask for review HW97k ... but I bought it... it’s amazing... Nice new Tacoma Sir... Congrat... 💯
I know this video is a little old. But still a very good video. Whenever my TX starts to double punch. I mean put pellet on top of pellet but two distinct holes. Check the stock screws. I bet your screws were loose.
I would literally hug her to sleep every night! I do not like the HW rifles that much, love Diana , but this one! Bloody Brits know what they are doing! I subscribed just because he was gentle with that beauty.
I have the TX200HC in .177 and just love to use it, way more fun than any PCP imho. The weight is it's advantage. If it's too heavy for you, get yourself down the gym ;)
Great review, Steve! Even though I own an HW97 in .177, this review sold me on another springer in that caliber. I'm pretty sure I can't get groups that tight with my HW97. See you in a couple of days!
I think I bought a few tins of the jsb 8.44s and maybe even the 10.34s as well, Ken. I have a Brocock Compatto in .177 that really likes those pellets. I'm out of town now but will check when I get home and give the 97 another run. Still, Steve's review on the TX 200 has me hankerin for it. I hate when I hanker...it always costs me $...
Hi, I'm thinking of getting HW97k - which should be basically the same as this TX200. Unfortunatelly, there's no place to hold the gun in real, I need to order online, so my choice is based solely on online research. What is your recommendation on stock? 1) Wooden vs Synthetic? 2) Thumbhole vs Regular? Intended use: 99% target shooting for fun and plinking at ~25m+. The remaining 1% is pest control - rats and mice in the garden. Thanks, Peter.
