A wing view from just before Christmas 2022, during peak holiday travel when a massive snow / ice storm hit southern Ontario and Quebec. Booked to fly from Toronto to Ottawa on December 23rd, I was very lucky to have made it to my destination, as WestJet had cancelled all of their flights and Air Canada cancelled 13/15 of their scheduled Toronto to Ottawa flights that day. I was lucky enough to be on one of the two Air Canada flights that managed to make the trip (albeit with a 2 hour delay).
The snowfall had calmed down at the time of our departure, but the wind was picking up and the temperatures dropping fast so we had a good long visit to the de-icing facility before our takeoff. We picked up off the runway very quickly and our climb up through the clouds was very bumpy. All-in-all, some very impressive flying!
Stay tuned for the arrival into Ottawa, where the blizzard conditions made for a very interesting arrival!

My mind is blown. I live in Canada and fly several times per year. This is the first time I've seen (noticed?) a centralized de-icing facility. And that colour! Glad to know they're keeping a close eye on what's been de-iced and what hasn't. Great video. Thanks so much for posting!

Plane was de-iced and then anti-ice agent was applied which is the color you see. I only see that applied when it is still snowing.

After the aircraft is de-iced with one type of de-icing fluid, another kind (the green stuff) is applied. If you can imagine how chocolate pudding can have a "skin" on it, the green stuff does as well. Any subsequent snow/ice after de-icing forms on the top of the green layer, and during the takeoff roll it all shears off under the increasing air loads on the wing.

We flew from Detroit to Dallas on Christmas Eve. We were supposed to go the Friday before, but due to the storm, we were a day late. Crazy bumpy, but we made it. 👍🏻 Thanks for this video.
