All people bitchin' about playback have to understand that Air actually have played this song a lot of times live (maybe more minimalistic but still) and that's because they can't set all the things and wires just for 3 mins live on a T.V. show, it would take more time setting the stage than the actual 'On Air' time, in this situations the best thing to do is playback, bc they can't refuse to play on tv! a lot of times that Air have been on a tv show they have just performed with a keyboard and a guitar (search 'another day on french tv'), still it's an amazing preformance! :)

They’re just playing back the song and he’s lip syncing. Both of them are the original vocalists though, Hope Sandoval just did a cover/alternate version.
@@Psilocy-ben He is lip-syncing (I think it's they make them for top of the tops) but he actually recorded the vocals if I'm not mistaken. Hope did a cover though and was originally going to do the vocals on the studio version. I could be wrong though.

What they went ahead and did is they went ahead and electronically altered his voice to sound that way. It *is* his real voice, just heavily altered with electronic effects

Really? From 0:30 onwards there are three voices overdubbed in studio and 0:38 is even double-tracked in stereo! There's no sound of possible vocoders (he has a ARP Solina String Ensemble in front of him) and at that time no pitch-shift/harmonizer software could sound so real. This is the studio version lip-synched, no question about it. The extended intro comes from the single cut.
There is a difference between playing and singing along to a backing track and lip syncing. To complain about this in relation to a band like AIR is asinine, they are more of a studio band to begin with.

es una mierda top of the pops.. AIR es un grupaso no deberian doblar pero no los dejan tocar en vivo ahí parece.. Muse hizo puras locuras, igual debe ser incomodo doblar tan mulamente cuando eres de verdad como AIR y Muse.....
