hi! i’m trying to finish out nursing school, then after graduating IMMEDIATELY enlisting to become an air force nurse…then hopefully a flight nurse! lol. does that seem like a good way to go or would there be a better route?
@AirForceNurseAngel
@AirForceNurseAngel 11 месяцев назад
I think that is a great route. It would be a direct commission. Contact your local health professions recruiter when you are close to graduating. Good luck.

Hi Angel! Thank you for this very informational video. I just got selected to be a flight nurse in the ANG, and he been watching alot of AE videos to keep myself motivated with this whole waiting period (tech school dates, etc.). Also, do you have any idea what the prospects are for those that are flight nurses in the ANG/Reserves with 3-4years of experience that would like to go active?
@AirForceNurseAngel
@AirForceNurseAngel Год назад
Hi Andreas! Of course, happy to help. Hmm I am not sure how the guard works honestly. I know 3 flight nurses that transitioned from guard to active duty. I can ask them the process and get back to you.

What is the transition for flight nurses coming back from ICU/ER? I know you talk a lot about going from med surg - thanks! Great video!
@AirForceNurseAngel
@AirForceNurseAngel Год назад
Hello! So if you’re ER/ICU and your leadership approves you to cross train it is the same process as med surg. ER and ICU are usually critically manned so it may be hard to leave those career fields if you are already in the Air Force. If you are a civilian it’s the same process as a direct commissioning from any other specialty. You have to have at least 1 year inpatient nursing experience. Hope this helps.

Hi Angel! Thanks so much for the video. I currently got accepted to an MSN-RN program and very excited to start in the Fall. I’ve been highly interested in becoming a flight nurse ever since I was able to connect with my nurses on the Critical Care Transport as an EMT. I have also been interested in joining the military since high school but was always scared to get a job that I wouldn’t like. Do you have any advice on what I should do after I get my MSN and pass the NCLEX if I wanted to do flight nursing in the Air Force? I currently work at a level 1 Trauma Center in CA as an ED Tech for about 2 years now and they have a new grad program that I was thinking about applying to to get some ICU or ED experience. Would it be better to apply for my hospitals new grad program out of nursing school and get a year of experience and then join the Air Force or start the process of becoming an officer and the Air Force’s new grad program? I researched that the new grads in the Air Force are required to start in med surg and I don’t know how long that will take before becoming a flight nurse. I am currently 24 turning 25 this year and I got my bachelors in Kinesiology with almost 5 years of healthcare experience. Any input would be appreciated! 😊

Hi Ray! Thanks for watching my video and I’m glad you liked it. Congrats on your acceptance into the nursing program. That’s huge. I’m assuming you get a dual BSN with the MSN. You have options 1. You can work for a year or two in the ED then talk to a health professions recruiter and try your luck at direct commission into flight nursing. My unit now has a total of 3 nurses this year who direct commissioned from civilian to flight nursing so it seems it’s becoming more common. No guarantee but you may get lucky. Realize if you do a civilian new grad program though you may be required to work at that hospital for a certain amount of time to pay back the investment…look into that. 2. You commission immediately following nursing school into the air force as a med surg nurse, work for a few years (2-4) then put in an application. This is the more common way and your chances of being a flight nurses are extremely high. Hope this helps. Good luck with school!

Hi Angel! Thank you for the video! are there physical requirements to being a Air Force nurse, such as the Air Force physical test with push ups, etc?
@AirForceNurseAngel
@AirForceNurseAngel 10 месяцев назад
Hey! Of course! I hope you learned something. Yes you have to do a PT test every 6-12 months depending on your score. It consist of a 1.5 mile run, push ups and sit ups/waist measurement. There are also other options like the “Hammer” run, hand release push ups, planks. Hello! I was just accepted into the Air Force NTP medsurg track and I was wondering if you knew approximately how long before I could cross-train into another field? I have been currently working on CCUs and I really want to stay in this field if I can.
@AirForceNurseAngel
@AirForceNurseAngel Год назад
Hello! Congrats on joining the force. Probably anywhere from 3-6 years. Depends on the manning within that specific career field. Speak with your chief nurse during your initial meet and great. Make sure you emphasize you are willing to do your time where ever the air force needs it but your desire down the line is XYZ. Good luck to you.

Hi! Im extremely jealous of you. Been wanting to be on the same path as you, but I dont think that'll be possible since im going reserve. Im an neurosurgery and cardiac ICU nurse for about 10 years. What will be the best job I can take as a reservist in your opinion?
@Jana-ho9ic
@Jana-ho9ic 7 месяцев назад
You can do either AE or CCAT with your ICU experience. There’s more reserve/ guard AE units than active duty, just need to find a recruiter so they can help you find a unit with spots
