Thanks for viewing one of our lessons in our Field Application of the Energy Code Series. This group of mini-lessons was created to provide a little information about how the 2021 IECC is being put into practice. This video covers a couple of common air-sealing topics covered in the 2021 Energy Code
This series was created through a collaboration between Shaunna Mozingo from Mozingo Code Group, Robby Schwarz from BUILDTank inc., and produced by TEACHconstruction.org

My question is, will you suffocate if you don’t open your windows or don’t have your ventilation system on?

A house will likely not be so tight that you suffocate. But - indoor air quality can easily become a problem if a house does not have enough air exchanges.

What code, there is no code for sealing a home or building. This is one of the reasons homes today are so expensive. It is baloney and common sense shows you how to seal a home. Do not seal homes completely because it is very unhealthy for humans.

Sorry sir, but you are wrong. 2021 IECC and 2021 IRC now require air sealing in many locations - more than we cover in this mini series of 14 videos.

You are lying. Thousands of companies have tried to get rich in the past by getting laws passed so their product would sell. I started building in 1957 and was building until a couple of years ago. I have seen a lot of history of the home building industry. @@ConstructionEd

@@thomaswayneward Sorry you feel that I am lying - I encourage you to review the code yourself and make your own informed judgment. codes.iccsafe.org/content/IECC2021P2/chapter-4-re-residential-energy-efficiency#action-wrapper-24249189 There are many changes coming to the homebuilding industry through the 2021 IECC and IRC - Parts of it are troubling to some - and welcome to others. Bottom line, houses will be built differently as each jurisdiction adopts the new codes.
