Bob was probably an interpreter. Cant speak for all, but across my deployments terps didn't use their real names, and would go by simple American names like Bob or Mike or Jim. We had a Matt, and another was Obie Trice, like the rapper.
@@OrangeCarrot_ we typically use last names or nicknames in the military. Now if he actually goes by Bob in his personal life, they could call him that just to screw with him, because it is funny. Or I don’t know, maybe they are on a first name basis in his unit. I can’t picture it, but it’s not impossible.

More like a white knuckle moment. His rounds stray by 100 meters or so, those men calling for support start taking casualties to the very fire that was supporting them. That isn't all that much for those aircraft, sniper systems they're not designed to be, they're area weapons. Would I call him in anyway at that range? Yep, despite being within danger close for most of his weapons, got a small terrain feature between us and the target.

Seen the A-10 at a air show once it's virtually silent coming at you and still really quiet after it passes especially after seeing and hearing other aircraft like F15 and 16s and F22 and 35 are kind of ridiculously loud but by time you hear one it's to damn late lol
I get your sentiment but the a10 is way more of a precision weapon than say a bomb or a rocket strike, something that would in effect remove a direction.
@@stickiedmin6508 when we're discussing danger close, bombs and missiles tend to near-universally have a larger danger close range than the guns. So, why would you want to bring up something that has a greater chance of obliterating the target and friendly forces? I mean, yeah, might bring in nuclear capable delivery systems too, doesn't mean that's exactly optimal. Case in point, the GAU-8 has a 10% PI of 100 meters, a mk-82 250 meters and the CEP for impacts for both, the mk-82 is greater as well. And some have mentioned an AC-130, there are far fewer AC-130's than there are A-10's, just for starters and it's kinda helpful for the resource to be both in theater and available, otherwise one may as well radio the chaplain for support.

Guns aren’t censored in a lot of RU-vid videos, because think of it this way, if RU-vid made it to where everyone should censor their firearms nobody would be able to look up super long videos of how to set things up, what to buy, where to buy it, and overall money for the platform would also go down. So I’m pretty sure RU-vid isn’t losing money for censoring curse words as much as it would if they had to censor guns 💀💀💀 (also the military wouldn’t be able to advertise their videos because it’s not a military ad without a gun, because it’s well the military obviously)

It is terrifying for the enemy,called in air support lots of times in Iraq.The call sign to our battalion ( requesting for fire ) was-Warhorse X-Ray,shoot an azimuth,then relay the grid-ordinance to battalion. Then sit back to watch the fire-works. Lights out for the enemy. LOL.

I have both living in my woods, hunting my skies (their skies) ...the bald eagles are very like, flutey sounding, they make short calls that sound like a flute or some similar instrument, and yep the red tailed hawk has that classic, movie, desert scene type scream. It's so cool, it used to be rare to see these birds, now they DOMINATE my area! I saw a bald eagle 🦅 swoop in like this, on a walking trail, it was like a jet coming in for a landing, EVERY other species of animal fled the woods in order, right after this...but it swooped in like 15 ft from us, tried to grab a rabbit but hit one of its wings on a piece of chicken wire fence, got it w one talon? One foot? Tried to take off w the rabbit, but dropped it. The rabbit was so fucking scared! Every animal bird insect went dead silent....daddy was in town and on the fucking HUNT! mad respect for Raptors.
@@exsopher So one round costs around 136$ and from what I could find A-10's usually carry up to 1200 rounds at a time. The Gau 8 fires 3900 rounds a minute so emptying the entire 1200 rounds would not take long at all and cost around 160 grand.

while it was a beast and the goat of fixed whing close air support i personally do believe it might be better to invest in a new one sadly the sky warden wont see time outside of SOF yeah its got a prop yeah it goes slow but you got air supremacy already its not like you cant afford to risk a small prop plane loaded with bombs and isr we basically already do that with drones this one just has a person and sips fuel but still carries a punch

I mean the plane is vastly outdated for any battlefield that has even simple air defenses It costs the US airforce a ton to keep these obselete plains in service and that money really could be used for better things
Not forever, just until they get around to building a flying tank around another big gun system. Everything wears out over time and needs replacement and updating. And fighters and fast attack is decidedly inferior overall to the dedicated attack aircraft that was exclusively designed for the CAS role.

It must be terrifying being on the recieving end of that. The fact that the plane was already changing course and ascending by the time you could hear it is absolutely crazy to me.
Except the GAU-8 is horridly inaccurate, meaning if you need CAS and an A-10 shows up and the enemy is within 100 feet of you, you're pretty much screwed and end up being a casualty to the thing you're asking for support from. Which is why the A-10 is responsible for more friendly fire deaths than any other aircraft. I'd much rather have literally anything else come help.
@@Horible4the main point behind the a-10 was for fortified spots or, like a group of vehicles They wherent entirely made for taking out an army of infantry troops in a swoop If you want that kinda stuff, ac-130s can get the job done But to be fair, if you are in a tense situation, you take what you can get

They're area weapons, each weapon deployed having its own danger close range. So, call for support at 100 feet is effectively calling for fire on one's own position.
Heard the impact of those redbull can sized rounds hitting the target a literal second before you heard the sound of the gun firing! Then the A-10 just flies over tipping it's wings as if saying "I got you bro!". Fucking got my adrenaline pumping and I ain't even there!
And THAT is why you keep the A10 around. Too many politicians who do not give three $#!TS about enlisted men's lives trying to force out that guardian angel!!

The top brass has been wanting to retire it for a couple of decades. But it keeps proving itself effective and the best at what it does. It's so good, still nothing is better. And when the soldiers heard the DoD wanting to retire it, they All were very upset at even the thought of it. There was so much push back, the top leaders decided to extend its service. And included them in getting the electronic upgrades the other fighter planes were getting.
