They're stinky. At Reedley college airplane school, I was on the tail end of a former ag Stearman restoration. We stripped it down to bare frame. Everything smelled. Even after sandblasting the frame, some welding repairs to the tubing smelled when heated. Years of chemicals froze the engine mount bolts to the pads on the airframe. Tried as we could, we couldn't save them and made new ones.
