I'm glad that he said he felt like a hero. So many people who are heroes say "I'm not a hero, I'm just doing my job" Yes, you might be doing your job, but that doesn't mean every situation is the same. Had he not been there, this would've certainly ended tragically. He's 100% a hero. And let's not forget how much credit the passenger deserves too. This was a team effort. Amazing story.

@GeekOfAllness
@GeekOfAllness 2 года назад
@@spudmint You just pull back on the yoke. Gees will shove you into the floor, but it's not that crazy to manage if you're pulling back without too much force. Ideally, you'd drop power to idle to avoid overspeed and breaking the aircraft into pieces, but the most important part is pulling up moderately (pull back too hard and you can break things, especially when you're going super fast). Getting the pilot off the controls was probably significantly harder.
@GeekOfAllness
@GeekOfAllness 2 года назад
@@chadurbanski3468 A proper certification also expects you to understand a lot of tedious rules about where to fly, when to fly, how to inspect the aircraft, etc. And how to plan a trip, where to get resources, how to operate the advanced controls, etc. Taking off and landing in calm conditions is pretty easy with minimal instructions. Flying safely around other vehicles in the sky, flying in worse conditions, communicating in towered airspace, and knowing how to read the manual to fly your aircraft properly takes a lot more practice.

As a pilot myself when I have been in nose dives typically you go into negative G's and trying to climb over seats and pull a man from a strapped in position would be very difficult. Especially if you have never experienced weightlessness. Did the aircraft spin or was it just a rapid decent because that would be two different animals. Either way the passenger should consider becoming a pilot.

This is certainly an amazing story, but I keep wondering about the "wrestle the slumped pilot out of his seat" part. This plane, like most, has dual controls and can be flown from either left or right front seats. Curious about the "slumped" phrase as the pilot should have been wearing his three point seat belt harness and thus couldn't fully slump forward, but the steep dive does seem to indicate his body was pressing down against the yoke. Looking forward to a more detailed description from the passenger/pilot.

Yeah. He knew about his "nav" screen and was in "level" flight and landed a plane like he's been flying for decades. Wow. It's a miracle. Or something. Wonder how many jabs the pilot had gotten?

Yes, incredible story, one in a million for sure, one of life's unforgettable moments, however, there is one point I think everybody hasn't thought of - what a fantastic designed aircraft , Kudos for Cessna , That high wing also made it a lot easier by not giving the "pilot" any blind spots. Sulley would be proud . He should take another ride with the ATC guy, just to see what he did.

That plane cost more than $2 million. At the very least, someone owes him free flight lessons for his own pilot's license.

He had so much knowledge of the instrument panel. Why act in interviews like he just popped out as a regular passenger with no flight knowledge? ATC “squawk 7700 on transponder” does so in 3 seconds. A person with no flight experience does not know what squawk means, or what a transponder is. In his interview, he states he knew he had to maintain proper airspeed so the wings wouldn’t get torn off. Hmmm… how would a random person know which one was the airspeed indicator, which arch it needed to be in and what the structural repercussions would be? He did a good job but in the aviation community we all know he had prior knowledge. Even using his full call sign “November 33 Lima Delta” when speaking with ATC.

Congrats future Dad and mom... as for The captain on the tower, 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Wow!!! I hope the hired pilot is feeling better too. The passenger....thanks for staying calm 🥰
