Mine make a weird popping sound when I walk. Annoying as hell. Otherwise I agree with your review 100%. As far as the dirt getting inside that lip, yeah it sucks. I go through a lot of Q-tips to get the gunk out.

Are they waterproof? Some sites have listed as waterproof and some don't mention. Waterproof needed in the UK in winter!

Definitely not Waterproof..Water "Resistant" at best..Cheers

Can you wipe off mud on the shoe or is the material knit like?

Depends on which model you get, but the white ones I reviewed could be wiped off no problem.
