Just another day on the roller coaster ride we call TFS. Spend a day with us as we celebrate the awesomeness of a former employee while trying to get some chassis reinforcements finished up. There might even be a hint or two about this build just waiting to be discovered as well...

I have been so very impressed with your thoroughness and attention to every detail (including your employee thoughtfulness). If you are hyper concerned about the strength of the whole design, you may want to consider taking a square tube or two from the top of one of the bag frame mounts across to the other bag mount (basically from the inside of one side of the frame to the other side directly on top of the bag mounts). That would relieve a lot of the stress put on the relatively short mounting surface you have on the frame to hold the weight of the whole truck (car).

A very complicated four link suspension system and chassis set up young man. I have seen a simpler alternative which uses an "A" frame and fulcrum ball joint on the rear axle. Much easier to to set up and install and little geometry to worry about as they arteoff the shelf parts. A really interesting series and I can feel your frustration, as with any kind of first time builds where you sort of invent solutions on the fly is really brain bashing stuff. Top respect!

All the load is on the rear chassis legs. That is where your 4 bar connects so all the acceleration and deceleration forces will go through that part of the frame.

Another good vidoe. Thnx Justin. Fish plates vs Gussets Hmmm ? I still prefer gussets, because they reach farther and supply angular strength. They also supply a center support that stops stress BEFORE it ever gets tp the weld joint that's being supported and stiffened. They are easier to make and install. That's just my way, but I like yours too.

damn, now I really curious if the Watts Link could be laid horizontal across the top of the axle. The more I think about it, the end links and the bar on the axle itself could be integrated directly into the airbag mounts, and they could be mirrored. So many ideas.

We work backwards from each other. I did my front end first figuring it's the bigger pain being tight. Made my own coil cups and shock mounts. Clearances around the bags and tunneled for the tie rods when totallyvaired out. Then went to the back end. Still unsure. Thinking cantilever under bed because I like a full floor or just false flooring the entire thing.i can lay frame on 22's with a simple c so....still figuring

So in the second Watt's link video you mention that the axle wasn't centered quite right. Did you center before welding the airbag mounts to the axle ? Otherwise the bags will be running at a slight angle. BTW, met Brandon last year when I did my class last May, he was busting his butt , great guy !

I like it. It’s a bit of a departure from your usual in that you’re hitting a lot more things whereas the older stuff is *usually like one thing specific. Certainly not saying one or the other is better, just what I noticed. But the video style is still casual enough to not feel all Hollywoodish, and the content of course, was on point as usual.

Again, if you had used 45 degree instead of 90ies over the back axel, then you would have had more strength and might not need the extra plates for strength + weight.

Does the load from the torque transmit to the rear 4 link, won't it try to pull the chassis and stretch it backwards??
@Fix_It_Again_Tony
@Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 года назад
That's what I was thinking. All the longitudinal forces from acceleration (assuming RWD) and braking (in the rear) will be transferred from the axle through the links to the frame side four link pivots and into those rear sections of frame. I'm not there and I can't see it in person so I can't say how much gusseting is needed, but to say all the forces are going to be in the bag mounts is true if you are only talking about the vehicle's weight. All the lateral forces will the transferred through the Watts link and the longitudinal forces through the four link for the rear axle.
