I’m sitting here in tears as I watch this show because, while this could have been about how a company used smart business strategies to survive hard times, it’s actually about a man trying to convey the love he has for each individual person who has helped make his idea grow into what it is today. And his pain over having to let people go when all he wants is for them to have a sense of belonging and security at the company. This is what I love about great interviews, and great conversations in general. (And even though it’s harder, connections can be made virtually!) These heart connections are everything, and the connections made in this interview resonate so strongly with me... more strongly than I expected! I’m so grateful that I happened upon this interview today. Thank you to Guy Raz and the “How I Built This” team and to Brian Chesky for sharing the emotional story behind the story. I am inspired and have a little more hope in humanity right now. 💗

All these “How I built This” podcast/bullshit talk show thingy is basically just a big, “How I maintained my corporate CEO position in a big business already worth millions and probably not going to run out of business anytime soon because of all the money I clareado fornicated and I probably fired and furloughed many of my workers.” I wanna see ACTUAL businesses (mom-and-pop shops, independent stores, etc) thrive and see how they become resilient, not some multimillionaire able to keep their money and company because they already have the tools to thrive in a harsh economic environment.
