I’m always looking for ways to improve, this is a great video. If you have ever heard of a “Jacob’s Ladder” (an electricity ladder), now we have “Carsten’s Ladder” the airbrush double action trigger exercise. What a great technique exercise!!! It isn’t as easy as it looks, I actually found it difficult because I had to think about what I was doing while my eyes were scanning ahead of the airbrush. I caught myself slowing my motion when I saw the line coming up and ended up pulling paint on too early!!! Man what a super exercise Carsten, well done my friend!!! 🖊🖊🙌🏻🙌🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯💯

Hi mate thank you SO much for your kind words and I’ve always called this the ‘column exercise’ but I think you just officially re-named it 😉🤔 it is a difficult one but super useful and a great one to practice before jumping into any airbrushing project .

i’m an airbrush noob and have a pretty cheap setup, but when i remove the needle cover the air pressure drops. is it super necessary to remove it in order to get finer lines? also line consistency is what i’ve been having the most trouble with, so this video was super helpful!

I use an airbrush for modelling but in that hobby, we're used to laying down 'base coats' and the applying a gloss coat before adding embellishments like shadowing, weathering etc. I'd like to airbrush a Motorhead warpig onto a guitar but am concerned that I will inevitable mess something up; could I apply the same technique on the guitar in laying down a base of 'solid' colour, glossing it to protect the base and then lay the grays and fading/shading over the gloss so if (when) I mess up, I can remove what I get wrong without disturbing the base layer?

Yes you most definitely can, I would however recommend sanding the surface once you have applied the clear ie : using 800 wet and dry sandpaper so that the paint has some tooth to stick to. I also recommend doing a sample panel if you can before attempting any new major project 👍🏻

Great tutorial. One question please. It's difficult to tell if your brush is angled in such a way that you are dragging or pushing the paint as you are spraying it. So, are you angled in such a way ther you are dragging or pushing the paint?
@AirbrushAsylum
@AirbrushAsylum 4 года назад
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the vid, the airbrush is slightly angled to make it easier to see on camera, however I recommend keeping the brush level to the surface. Hope that helps 👍🏻

Prefer side mounted cups as you are much closer to surface.

Good exercises, thanks for posting them. Is there a preferred paper that is good for airbrushing? 100lbs/260gms ? Slick/porous? I cannot afford to do all the practice I need on canvas. Thanks for any advice.

Noob airbrush-artist-wannabe here. I'm using 250g/m², I does ok as long as I don't spray half a bottle of paint at once for my background, I just make sure it dries a bit before I continue spraying. But I'm thinking about buying a canvas for practice and some of whatever white coating they use so I can "reset" when I run out of space for practice, or a bunch of white paint. It's not like a canvas is a throw-away item, even DaVinci repainted over some of his own painting IIRC. My two cents for free.
@NEB3310
@NEB3310 4 года назад
@@Urusay Good idea about the 'practice' canvas. I think gesso is what's used to reset the canvas, but white paint may work too. Thanks.

When I demo during my classes I use a art pad which is A3 and has about 80 odd pages and only costs around $6 hope that helps. In regards to the canvas I do re - use them for these exercises and Gesso would be the quickest and cheapest way to re-set , I used paint and it took quite a few coats to cover 😉👍🏻

I been asking it before its about the templates you have cutter laser machine ? Or you make a cut process with random images? Can you show some process related to an illustration from artstation . I talk about something with more process . Go ahead with it!
@AirbrushAsylum
@AirbrushAsylum 4 года назад
All our templates are purchased from AirShot or Artool who both have laser cutters and make templates using Mylar. My paper cut templates are cut by hand and are obviously ‘single use ‘ hope that helps 👍🏻
