I've just flown from London gatwick to Mauritius on an A330-900 NEO.!! hours one way, 12 the other..It must be said that the 'ride' was very Rolls Royce. Extremely quiet and smooth, we only hit a few minor bumps on the 'road'. the only issue was the cabin was too warm and there are no individual air vents, Addto this that "if it's Boeing, I ain't going" is growing amongst the flying public (I'm a Professional Automotive Engineer and have been following the 'saga' - some of the stuff that's happening wouldn't get out of the factory at a car plant) and the Airbus has a significant advantage, IMO.

A330neo can't challenge the B787 on the Middle Size Market bro. But the A350-900 is a B787 killer

Having flown a number of times on both planes, I find the A330 much quieter. I am always shocked at how noisy the 787 is, even towards the front in Premium Economy.

The backlog for 787's is the problem for alot of potential client's. The A330-900 is a fantastic jetliner in it's own right and we are seeing the number of orders increase recently. It will never match the sales numbers of the 787 but can still be successful in it's own right.

Any inferiority the A330Neo had versus B787 has been negated in large part by Boeings problems. Price & availability is a considerable advantage to the AB product along with the many small improvements which will only help it`s sales. Boeing are sure to get over their issues & will resume a decent build rate eventually but I`d suggest A330Neo has been given a boost to the program making it all the more attractive. There is definitely room in the market for both these terrific aircraft.

The 787 is better than the A330-NEO, that's inevitable given the age disparity and the fact the 787 is a CFRP plane. But the A330 NEO is good enough. And with the longest waiting list in history, a bird in the hand is worth more than (6 year waiting list) two birds in the bush. As an airline, you can't make money if you don't have planes.

Interesting video including most of the points I have previously raised. Unfortunately, fanboys and salesmen only understand 'best'. Sometimes, 'good enough' is all that is needed. I am sure that the Boeing bean-counters envy the earlier profitability threshold of the Airbus. The Boeing may well be the better plane overall, but it is almost certain that the A330neo will outperform the 787 so far as profit for the manufacturer is concerned. Perhaps with hindsight, Boeing could have been better off financially by enhancing the 767 instead.

This shows the A330 neo while improving is still paying catch up. The jump by Boeing was a game changer and their order book shows that. Even type benefits of airbus and the neo upgrade, its not enough. While new engines could being the A330 closer, so can boeing benefit from adding new engines. What holds boeing back is making just the current backlog order book safely

I agree that the Airbus A330-900 is just an upgrade version of the A330-300 but if it was meant to be an upgrade then it shouldn’t have been heavier than older model it should have lighter in weight and more powerful engines. Instead the A330-900 has less powerful engines and it’s a lot heavier in weight therefore it goes through a lot more fuel and then it costs a lot more to maintain and to keep the plane. If Airbus wants to make the A330-900 a good plane to replace the old A330-300 then they are going to need to make the 900 a lot lighter in weight and more powerful engines and also better for flying higher up in the sky otherwise Boeing will continue to win this market and that will be the A330-900 not worth continuing to make anymore and leaving airbus with a job to make another plane altogether
@artrandy
@artrandy 21 день назад
The A330neo cost much less to develop than either the B787 or A350, so to develop a lighter carbon fibre composite hull now would be very expensive, and unnecessarily compete with Airbus' own A350. So Airbus would be shooting themselves in the foot. The A330neo is much more efficient than the Ceo, and is available to airlines much sooner and much cheaper than its rivals. Many Ceos around will not need to be replaced for some years, and whilst the type sells modestly until then, it is currently keeping the price of the B787 down, so a good job well done for Airbus. If the rumoured Chinese order for 100 plus Neos is confirmed at Farnborough, along with the rumours of Virgin replacing their B787s with Neos, when the 787's lease expire and when major internal refits are required, the Neo will be shining in the spotlight..........
@FraserWest-um4ue
@FraserWest-um4ue 21 день назад
Virgin Atlantic isn’t buying any more of the A330-900 because they are replacing the their older A330-343S with the new A350-900 ultra long range. And the A330-302 is still a lot more fuel efficient than the new A330-900 especially when the A330-302 is lighter in weight and the last of the planes were built in 2020 and virgin Atlantic and euro wings bought the last of them earlier this year so they will arrive later this year or next year
@artrandy
@artrandy 21 день назад
@@FraserWest-um4ue I never specifically mentioned the A330-900 in relation to Virgin, I deliberately spoke of the A330Neo. That covers all configurations of this new generation A330. You invent an argument I didn't make, and then contradict it. Ostensibly, you're arguing with yourself🙃🙃. Besides, the rumours of more A330Neos for Virgin, to replace leased B787s returning to their lessor, is separate from any future need Virgin might have to replace other types. Let's see if there is an announcement at Farnborough or Paris about new Virgin A330neo orders, the former is only next week. I have an open mind regarding rumours, but you are certain that you have a hotline with God😀. So please don't try to gaslight me buddy, my message is clear, as is your attempt to confuse things to win out an unconvincing argument by default........... edit: sp

@FraserWest-um4ue 21 день назад
I was only making a point and virgin Atlantic has the order in place since 2019 but still hasn’t been given the planes the newest order is actually for the bigger A350-1000S which isn’t arriving until 2026 at the earliest

This comparison is pointless.. the real battle with 787 is the a350 which is taking over as pretty much every airbus aircraft is.. for over 4 years airbus has delivered more aircraft every month. A350 will eventually outsell the 787 by a long way

Most airlines will shop for a certain capacity slot. The choice usually is A330-900 vs 787-9, A350-900 vs 787-10 or A350-1000 vs 777-9.

This is a no-sense to compare this two aircrafts: the A330 is an old generation plane, and the B787 is the most advanced one in terms of technology today. Even the A350 lags behind the B787. The A350 is a conventional plane with carbon airframe but all the equipments and the technology architecture is traditional
@FrewstonBooks

Do not agree with you on that. Apart from Boeing's non use of bleed air, and Airbus's use of conventional batteries rather than li-ion, the A350 is more advanced than the 787, especially in terms of its systems keeping maintenance costs low and managed. The A350 was initially going to use li-ion, but this was changed after Boeing's problems with them.

Don’t say that the A350 lags behind the B787 because it obviously doesn’t. Maybe airlines chose the B787 over A330Neo but they also chose the A350. Also B787 and A350 aren’t comparable.
