yeah, if you could have them up 24/7 with with enough power and enough cooling, it'll be amazing. With enough power you could take down almost anything. Never need any kinetic or chemical weapons (as in explosive), except for very far off targets like long range attack planes, as lasers wont be effective on very long range due to crap like dust in the air bringing down the power. Railguns would also be great, but not guided at long range, though, I've always wondered if, say, you launch a projectile via a railgun and then the last few kilometers, have a small rocket or electrically moved fins to guide it for fine movement.

Battleships in a war will not be on their own they will be part of battle groups and they will have aircraft in the air as well. And the volume that they will unleash will be far greater than the video game shows. Those C-Rams are not a single line of fire they fill up the volume of space with explosive rounds. Those tracers you are see are one in every ten rounds.

US Aircraft carriers are extremely tough and would require massive missiles to actually hit them. In a real battle it would take constant hits from artillery that is by the way far more effective than a missile to take down those carriers. Here is the thing that most people do not realize is that carriers in a war would be part of a group and if a major world war was to break out the US would have a thousand of them active.

US battleships are part of groups. So that means the US right now can form about 11 such battle groups with each group able to put over 100 aircraft in the air. Think of how large those ships are now think of how much ammunition they can carry and unleash. Each Carrier group will have its own battle squadron that on its own would be impossible to take down never mind a carrier being present. In WW3 the US will have about 1000 carriers active.

Jim Powell speaking. Not so. Aircraft carriers are still very valuable. Their defenses are quite good. The only countries who could truly challenge our carriers are China or Russia. The amount of missiles they have and the accuracy of said missiles is of importance. I can promise you this, neither you nor I, know of the new innovations that are currently aboard our war ships. The aircraft and their abilities are unmatched. Not to mention the submarines that sail with each carrier air group. It seems you have been frightened by some of the anti America politicians, or you give our enemies to much credit.

The supersonic missile technology, very silent submarines or long range torpedoes, are in reach of many countries now a days. These technologies once only in the US,Russia knowledge are reachable by more and more countries nows. Such as drone technology, ballistic missile technology, nuclear energy and weapons. Iran, Turkey, China are building very cost effective drones. Turkey is converting its LHD into drone carries. A capable air defence system like S400 in mediterreneam sea, can hinder all capabilities of air craft carries. Many countries are now building sophisticated longe range air defence systems. All major players now adays have them. Especially after the success of drones have been seen . I believe this is one of the reasons why US is building pressure on Turkey. Aircraft carries may be still useful in deep blue waters, but many areas which serious conflicts exist, they are pretty much in grave danger like south china sea. Anyhow, while there 20 billion homeless people in US. I do not think that these expensive carries do not give much benefit to US with bad economy.

I remember 30 years ago when it was America who woke the world up about Hypersonic, I have seen videos of hypersonic missiles in the Korean war.
