Awesome. I see a lot of people have their rolling tool boxes in there. Looks like they're all similar, and a unique design! It would be cool to see the others as well! An update would also be cool.

Those 17" hip roof boxes from HF are actually a good box for the money. No they're not a vintage American made box so they are not quite as good, but you can't beat them for a new box today.

@@flogsbymm every man could always use more tools, no matter what they do for a living lol but yeah it just blew me away that most fasteners are between 1/4" and 9/16", and all you really need is 1/4" ratchets. Just cool how everything is common like that. Do you mostly do PMs and line maintenance, or are you able to "heavy" maintenance with those tools as well? The whole aviation industry is just really interesting to me

I work at a “line” station but sometimes we do have to do heavy maintenance, like engine changes. As far as tooling, the company provides all the heavy tools required.

What would you use if those punches were too 'fat' to fit in a space? A regular one that costs 10% of a snap on one, apart from that, nice sized box for what you can fit in there.

How do you become a aircraft mechanic. And how difficult is it compared to automotive repair?
@flogsbymm
@flogsbymm 3 года назад
The traditional way is to go to school for about 18 months and pass a written and practical exams at the end. In my opinion it’s about the same. Aircraft techs need to be more precise in what they do as far as using correct manuals and keeping paperwork together. Also using approved parts.
@ethansmith8813

@flogsbymm

@mmholling87
@mmholling87 3 года назад
@@ethansmith8813 work isn't bad because you'll be trained on every job or task. In aviation you're paid hourly and not flat rate which is better IMO. Aircraft mechanics start at around the low 20s per hour and can easily go up to mid 30s after 5-10 years experience. The biggest difference is the type of work, if you're working on a car it's because something failed- water pump, sensor, timming belts etc. Aircraft maintenance is mostly scheduled inspections and you're trying to find something wrong. Alot of times it's taking good stuff apart, inspection, and re-assembly.

The only thing that suprised me here is the fact that there are still aeroplanes that use SAE fractional fasners. The only 3 country's on the planet that has not adapted fully to the metric system are the U.S.A. , Myanmar and Lyberia. What is this man working on 1960's Cesna 's?

@jeffharper410
@jeffharper410 2 года назад
I don't work in your feild, I asked my older brother who did and he said ,almost all aircraft are fractional SAE spec. That did suprise me alot. I thought aviation would be the first to go metric for global uniformity if nothing else. Either way I liked your video, can't go wrong with Sthalwille sockets and wrenches either, BTW most of their rachets are no foreign object damage designed. No small screws to fall out into your work. Their sockets are tough as hell . Their wrenches are very strong but light weight, 1/2 the weight of my snap on wrenches of the same size and length. Great when you are carrying a small moble tool box, less weight means you won't retire early with a bad sholder! Napa has a great reinforced canvas Carlyle tool bag, I reduce weight when I go to the wrecking yards to pull hard to find parts. Or just can't get them new due to supply shortages. Sthalwille has aviation tools ,made in Germany. Some of the best steel available at any price. Also the Gedore pry bars are amazing they use both chrome vanadium and molybdenum then air hardened ,the result indestructible. I use KC tools to order them. Keep weight down in your carry box, I got rid of my Kennedy cantilever box like the ones sitting in the back ground of your video,won't do steel anymore. A 50 pound tool box is small but still not portable , with a good bag and tool rolls ,the right tools you may get down to 30 pounds and still be organized. I'm near 56 and still buisy as ever but can't lug around what I used too. Best of luck keep up the cool content. 😎
