Gary, nice work on the your mustang. FYI the wider portion at the base of the prop blades was a rubber cuff, so it wouldn't have chipping. The radio equipment box is the fuselage fuel tank. It's black as it's outside is rubber. Also both cuffed & un-cuffed propellers were used in Korean War mustangs.

Yeah that uncuffed prop is for the Korean war ones. Don´t know why they used less cuffs then, it has a use )helping cooling the engine for one thing). These days the warbirds don´t since the cuffs are expensive and they are not flown that hard so... iirc that´s why. The canopies are different versions. Each plant even had slightly different versions. Shape, where the opening handle was etc. nice touch!

Love that dry brushing technique Gary on the cockpit instruments... need to try it!

Instead of brushing, you could try it with artisrs' pencils.. I've become quitec arttched to the silver Prismatic version.

Do you use that for panel edges too? I've tried the Faber Castell one but it's a bit too grainy a look for me.

@@garys_stuff Never tried it on panel edges. I normally use it in place of dry-brushing. For panel edges I might try a silver Sharpie.

Interesting post WW2history. I didn't know they were used in Korea. Nice touches to the paintwork on the finished model

I built this, as a Swedish version. And it was alright but.. Compared even to Tamiya´s older - I think I prefer that one.. Even though it is simpler..! Airfix plastics is not nice and I did not like the canopy.soloution. it is not bad, just being this new and for the price... I expected better. And then i picked up a bunch of Eduard´s........ Sometimes you want simpler like this and the end result was nice! But... It left something to be desired.. My final verdict would be - okay, it is okay!

There is also some problem with this kit - I thought it was me at first.. The tail becomes twisted.. Don´t know why, but I have seen others experience the same thing..

Nice pocket history, Gary. The name Apache was given to the A-36 which was the dedicated ground-attack dive bomber version of the Mustang. It was distinguished by slatted dive brakes above and below the wings.

Cheers Randy. As far as I can make out, and I'm very happy to be corrected, the Apache name was supposed to be carried over to the P-51 when they decided to make it a fighter, but they decided to go with Mustang instead. I did read about the A-36 but to be honest I was really pressed for time getting the doc out at all yesterday! Didn't get to mention the Twin Mustang either. Actually, that might make a good Feature Friday - twinned planes like the F-82, the He-111Z and so on...

Again, a tremendous build with minimal equipment. You have inspired me to start a build, and have started playing guitar again to regain control of my hands. You have created a great grass roots community where all stages of modelers can get together and share our experiences. Love the great comments, and over time , hope to get to know each other and share even more.

Ahhh a short day with heavy rain and typical traffic just to arrive in time for my evening coffee ☕ that tastes 20% better with the bonus historical content! Hats off for the Hemlock tune selection, works very well with that build. 🎩 And while giving hat tips, kudos to the great people in the comments with fantastic bits of historical info. Am really liking how this community is growing and glad to be a part of. Have to make a trip Monday to my local shop for that 2 step NMF you used to tackle a couple of kits in the stash. Thanks everyone 👍

Glad the music meets with your approval - it is something I try to get right where I can. And I do love all the comments - I'm learning so much about subjects that I love - aircraft and model making!
