Great job man! I always thought using my handometer to calculate my Neal Factor was good enough. I'll be looking into the testo and flow hood to start finding a K factor from now on!

Haha 😂, thanks Andrew! No matter how well your handometer is calibrated I find it difficult to generate top dollar for a report with it. Maybe some have better luck than me.

man, no doubt you did a great job. personally this part of the industry is a turn off for me. I definitely would subcontract. like anyways. thanks

tecnico , not a bad idea. We are a smaller company, and I'm the only one currently that can put together this type of report package. I does take time away from other things I could be doing. One benefit of me doing it is that I now have better knowledge of the house and can produce a better proposal. I'll think about that though, thanks for watching.

Badass dude. Did you caculate K factor for the RA grilles the same way?

John McMaster, thanks man! On returns measure the actual opening (20x20 might be 19.5x19.5), no k factor.

Is there any way of calculating the register k-factor without having access to a hood? Those things are like $1500.

Sandro Kovalev most grille/register manufacturers publish AK factors, which is essentially free area. If you have an anemometer you can calculate CFM.

@@neilcomparetto5282 I do have a large vane anemometer but it wants to know the k-factor of the diffuser before it will do a proper cfm check. Problem is that its usually not easy to find who manufactures the diffuser.

Sandro Kovalev if you can’t get the AK info you can make a collar with a known size (10x6=60 sq in for example). One issue with a vane anemometer is that it doesn’t react fast enough to the different air velocities when traversing. A hot wire does a better job IMO. CPS EasyHood is about $400 and does a decent job.
