AirForce Texan Carbon Fiber Bottles with Huge Power! Over 700 Foot-Pounds of Energy!

Correction: AirForce has clarified that there isn't a new heavier hammer spring and one is NOT needed with the new bottle!
AirForce has upped the ante once again and their new line of carbon fiber (CF) bottle Texans are producing over 700 foot-pounds of energy in .45 caliber! The .45 cal Texan and Texan LSS are both over 700 fpe and the Carbine and SS are now up to 600 fpe. This is nuts!
This increase in power is due to the combination of the new TX2 valve, which has been standard on the recent .45 cal Texans, and the new carbon fiber bottles that are able to handle pressures up to 3625 psi (250 BAR).
This translates into extreme knockdown power with very heavy slugs and if you are shooting moderately heavy projectiles like Nielsen 290 and 350 grain slugs you will have a much flatter trajectory, giving you more wiggle room when ranging a animal.
The tanks are available separately but if you buy the CF version of the Texan you save a lot of money, so pick one up now and start sending lead down range!

Good video, Travis... quite impressive, but I want to hear results with the LS. I simply wouldn’t carry a gun that size in the woods... I’ve had issues with the standard Tex in blinds, still hunting, etc, and consider it my limit ... however, with the LS, you can have a low noise level at full length, or remove the moderator for a compact gun... now, if we could bump 600 ftlbs with,say, a 280-300 grn hollowpoint.....

I bought the original Texan in .457 from Airgun Depot several years ago. My one complaint has been the length of the loading tray. It's too short to allow loading of slugs above 320 grains yet you're shooting 520 grain slugs in this video. Has the loading tray been lengthened or do I somehow have the air bottle screwed in too far forward?

whats 200y 5 shot groups looking like with the NSA 290s? I have a HEAVILY modded Texan thats pretty much a full custom job in .257 that will shoot 5 shoot half minute groups all day long. I have never shot a stock Texan but would really love this gun 700+ftbs in .45 would be awesome for the big pigs on my land. with that kinda energy I would have no issues with taking rather long shots on them if the gun is capable of holding groups that I would be comfortable with to assure vital shots. I have a custom .45 thats running the NSA 290s at 470FTLBs and I have taken a lot of pigs in the 100 to 200lb range out to 300y and those slugs terminal performance is fantastic this gun will consistantly print 5 shot groups at 300y that are under 2.5 minute. adding another 200+ftlbs on top of that would be awesome and if this gun is capable of 200y groups that are 2 moa or better I will buy one right now.

@@jgairguns4332It ices Coyotes out to 200 250 yds all day long without any problem .. it would even take them out at 300yds as long as you were dialed in with psi in the tank vs grain weight vs holdover. 200 yards is pretty effortless though. Rough trajectory with 350grain and a full tank. Dialed in zero at 60 yds. 100yds 1/2 inch 150yds 4 inch 200yds 16 inch 250yds 28 inch 300yds 40 inch Pretty flat out to 125yds After that the drop is pretty significant and fades out pretty steep. If only airforce would give use an adjustable trigger....
@edcrus
@edcrus 4 года назад
yeah the triggers deff leave something to be desired when you are used to match grade triggers. I will say this after some trigger time on them you will get used to that spongy feeling. I wish they would give us a trigger that is like my RAW HM1000X LRT .25 and .30 but thats wishful thinking. I dont ever expect a match grade 2 stage trigger from them so I really would be happy if they would just give us a creep/roll free 2lb single stage trigger, Im very used to match grade single stage triggers because I shoot a lot of ERL powder burners (its where we came from pushing the limits of extremely long range shots) if they would charge a 100 more and give us a match grade single stage trigger (IMHO this type of gun I would prefer a single stage trigger over a 2 stage trigger) that is adjustable from about 12 ounces to 2lbs we would benefit greatly from that when reaching out to the limits of what this gun can do. I just dont see them investing in designing a trigger group that is match quality and able to be produced in a cost efficient and timely way. its cheap and easy to build a trigger group that has some roll/slop in it but when tolerances become tight enough that there is near zero slop things start to cost a lot more to produce as does the machines to make the parts. I would have no problem with a fair increase in price based on just the trigger but I dont think most would be ok with that price increase and thats exactly why we will always have a trigger that works and is usable from airforce but NOT one that adds to the performance of the gun. if enough demand was around Im sure some machinist could build us match grade single or 2 stage trigger groups for the Airforce guns fairly easily if the demand was there. I would pay a machinist 200 to 250USD for a drop in parts match grade trigger group and be happy as a lark.

Nice shot on the Coke can...it proves that even a blind squirrel can find an acorn once in awhile. You keep touting the guns power output at 700+ foot pounds of energy but that's with a 520 grain slug, and yet Chris admitted that he would not use the 520 grain slugs for hunting because they have such a horrible trajectory. So why tout the gun's energy output with a slug the size of a brick that no one is ever really going to use? As a matter of fact for the doe Chris just killed a few days ago with his Texan CF he was using a 290 grain slug, which would probably produce closer to 550 fpe. It is a beast of an air rife capable of taking down a bull elk or even a bull moose with the right shot placement, so I see no need for you to exaggerate its power with parlor tricks.
@easternblocairguns2728
@easternblocairguns2728 4 года назад
Not all airgunners are as educated as you. They know a lighter slug is better, but they are sell a product. Many guys will buy it just for the 740ft lbs.
@UpNorthAirGunner
@UpNorthAirGunner 4 года назад
So Charles there is one thing you are leaving out and that is the comparative analysis of where the Texan and big bore airguns as a whole have come from. This same line of airguns just a few years ago was slinging 350 grain slugs at 800 FPS! But now it can sling a 523 grain slug at that same velocity! That is quite impressive in my book. So apples to apples we are now getting the same trajectory characteristics from a 520 grain slug today as we were getting from a 350 grain slug just a few years ago in the AirForce Texan. So it isn't as bad as you think as far as high arcing rainbow shots. I just like laser flat when hunting. My rule of thumb is to select a slug that will have a flat enough trajectory to the deer to stay in that 8 inch kills zone the entire distance to the deer and for me that is within 100 yards. The 290s and 350s fit that criteria for me - but the funny thing is those 520 grainers aren't that far off that self imposed criteria and here is why.... The ballistic coefficient for that 520 grain slug has got to be one the best I have ever shot from an airgun because the sectional density is mind blowing! Here is a similar slug and the BC is .38!!!!!!!!! Read that again - I said .38!!!!! Here is a similar slug: noebulletmolds.com/NV/images/N.O.E._Bullet_Moulds_459-500-RN_GC_CB6_Sketch.Jpg For reference a pellet that we consider to have REALLY high BC characteristics would be .038! That is an entire decimal place to the left! So why does that matter? Physics my friend! That slug going 800 FPS is only dropping around 8 inches at 100 yards due to the high BC of .38-ish. That is crazy good BC! This is why when you look into the Black Powder Long Range shooting - or Black Powder Cartridge Rifle BPRC, these 500-550 grain slugs are exactly the hunk of lead they are shooting with for competition and at relatively slow velocities for powder burners. Why? High BC is king at long range. I agree that FPE is kind of a poor metric for the airgun industry to use, but for whatever reason FPS and FPE are those marketing numbers that get thrown around. It makes me laugh when is see break barrels advertise 1200 FPS!!!! Yes most people just getting into this don't understand that number is basically meaningless because it is being shot with a projectile so small and light that it might have hit that number on top of a mountain using some crazy lightweight Chinese-ium alloy pellet, but the second they drop a real lead pellet into that same gun they get 800 FPS. So that is why this 700+ FPE matters (and I have gotten it to hit 770 FPE)... We are running these tests with what basically is the equivalent to Black Powder long range slugs of choice. That is just NUTS and not a parlor trick my friend! Thanks for watching!
@charlespeffley
@charlespeffley 4 года назад
What Chris I have to admit you certainly make a good argument for using the heavier slugs and you make it impossible to argue with your logic, but I would like to shoot some of those slugs at a hundred yards and prove it to myself. I wouldn't hesitate to admit that I am wrong about what I said it's just that it's awful hard to believe that monster 520 grain slug only drops 8 inches at a hundred yards ! Being a powerhead I just wish there were any possible way for me to justify owning an Airforce Texan CF so I could test this myself.
@charlespeffley
@charlespeffley 4 года назад
I guess something else that's always bothered me is the fact that these air rifle manufacturers started what I call an arms race years ago constantly trying to one-up each other touting exaggerated velocities using lightweight aluminum pellets for god sakes they won't hit the side of a barn in the same place twice. The only real exceptions I found that rule being the honest claims by FX airguns, and Hatsan whose air guns performance always exceeded the stated performance which was always a nice surprise you get a gun that had more power then the specs said it would have. Unfortunately I agree with you that brain fractures have to have some sort of yardstick to measure themselves against each other and velocity and FPE seem to be the only two yardsticks available for the task
