In today’s video we are going to be talking about two popular types of painting guns. An Airless sprayer and a Air spray gun that you connect to a compressor. We will talk about Pros and Cons of both and talk about which is best for what kind of project.

Use 2-3:ft whips connected together for little jobs using an airless sprayer especially if you are low on a certain paint, takes very little paint to prime machine and if your using a small Graco project sprayer I can hold it and the paint and spray if I need to. Cut a perfect size hole the same size as the intake hose and put intake hose through lid and put it on the can with a small hammer so you will not spill any paint. Have used this trick many many times. With 2 3 ft whip hoses the sprayer primes in about 2 seconds with very little paint.

Thanks for the video. I'm looking for info before I buy one of these to paint the exterior of my house. I had to sift through a lot of junk videos with a bunch of B-roll of dudes spraying paint and text-to-speech spouting the same stuff before I got some real talk. Much appreciated.

Although I'm buying it initially for outside of the house, I think I'll get the compressor and gun. I have been wanting to buy a pancake compressor like that for other air tools anyway, and I think I'd much rather stop and refill the hopper a bunch of times, than do all that cleanup and dealing with hoses and flushing and priming yadda yadda each time I use it. I'm in central Florida and due to daily thunderstorms during the summer, and also my work ethic, will cause me to split the painting into a bunch of sessions over a few weekends. Then I can use the compressor gun for painting smaller things later on. Thanks again.

For the small Air spray gun. What are the technical specs for a good Air spray gun vs other Air spray gun. What do I need to look for? I am looking for things such as finer spray, longer spray cycle, low pressure unit, etc. Not sure if this is accurate, but just to give you idea.

I use both for Kitchens I build. The air gun we use if we just need to spray a few doors or mostly for spraying stain, and the airless when we are doing all the cabinets and doors. We actually use a diaphragm pump that has a reservoir that holds about 2 gallons of lacquer and we just leave it loaded all the time with a lid on it. Reason for the diaphragm is it has constant pressure and wont skip while spraying compared to a piston airless which also works great but will sometimes skip a little when piston cycles. Once you use an airless with a dual orifice tip you wont want to use an air gun. Speed and quality is really good.

For the air spray gun, they don’t work with 6 gallon compressor I already try in the past and read the specifications, Just 27 gallon air compressor, the tank it’s huge !

I want to paint a small bedroom, don't mind refilling. I own a Makita mac320q, for the price of a new Graco Magnum X5 ($329.29) could I get an air spray gun for that price that would work as well. If so what's the best spray gun under $300 that would work best?

For a small room like that I would recommend the air gun. If you have a compressor already your only cost would be the gun, about $70. And if you need a compressor that’s another about $200 ish. I have links for some good ones in the description if you need one of them.

Is there a hybrid gun that combines both features? As everyone, no one wants 2 air units and want one to do the whole job.

Yes it is called air assist. It is a airless setup with a compressor on the same unit that you can use if you want a super fine finish or turn it off for full airless.

can you not use a airless sprayer with a gravity fed attachment? for for example if you already had a airless sprayer and wanted to paint a car

The problem would be that for a gravity feed attachment it would need to be at the gun itself, but with an airless sprayer the paint is at the pump. Its just how the system is designed, so i dont think a gravity fed attachment would work with an airless sprayer.

I've painted with airless gun. Didn't like the paint job.. airless is fine for primer but actal paint use air

The cost doesnt seem too bad, an air setup for a large enough compressor, gauges, gun, for a medium project like a car itl be painful doing it with a 6 gallon, and just the 6 gallon compressor runs you 130, ridiculous

Would you still recommend using the air spray gun for projects like painting a large room?

Yea for sure. I think the airless is better for larger rooms and jobs. But both would work for just about anything. With the air spray gun you will just have to stop and refill the hopper more on bigger jobs

So I can use the stay gun and compressor for big and little jobs? But the airless is better for big jobs?

Yes. You could use the gun and compressor for little jobs and airless for bigger ones. You could really use either for big or small, it’s just easier to use the airless on bigger jobs because of the size of the machine.

Your compressor is WAY too small for Hvlp. High volume means lots of air is needed. That small compressor doesn't have high volume. A bigger tank is needed. Your review (as far as cost comparison) is skewed because you're not recommending the right equipment. A compressor with high enough volume will run you closer to 1000$cad.

As a house painter for more then 30+ years I can tell you this,,,, If you want to paint more then just one door in your house buy an airless sprayer , if you want to paint a car then buy a Air paint sprayer simple as that !

@@kaikamisen8001 Yes obviously, but i think what he is saying is that sometimes you only have to paint one spot or one door, as opposed to the whole thing.
