On this week's edition of "Who said it was a good idea for me to have disposable income?" We have an Airmaster 24" oscillating heavy duty industrial pedestal fan. This fan was built up from the cheapest parts I could find on eBay (in the same manner as my 30" Dayton oscillator) and ended up costing me roughly half of what a brand new one of these would retail for. It uses a 3 speed 1/3 HP PSC motor and Airmaster's patented cast-aluminum propeller, which is actually what attracted me to this fan in the first place being that it's probably the last antique cast propeller design still in production today. In terms of performance, this fan, simply put, is the best you can buy. It may not be the best in the history of now and forever but it is by far the best fan of its type currently in production. Performance-wise, it's practically unrivaled, at least I've never tried anything else that could rival it, old or new. It's also the quietest industrial fan I've ever had the pleasure of testing, has AMAZING speed separation (medium is like low on most fans of this type, and low is practically noiseless yet still pushes amazing air), and some beautiful motor harmonics, very reminiscent of a 3-phase motor. And lastly, it's remarkably sturdy, with a nice, large diameter base and one of the thickest pedestal poles I've ever seen on an industrial fan, all made out of a very thick gauge of steel. Serviceability is also top tier, with the fan being built so that most of the failure-prone components can easily be replaced if need be. I also like that after all these years, Airmaster is still using wrinkled paint on the pedestal base and pole rather than glossy paint like what most other manufacturers moved to in the late 70s and 80s. Through and through, this fan is a rare instance of a buy-it-for-life product in an increasingly throwaway world, and I recommend it to ANYONE looking for a commercial or industrial air circulator
