Airplane Recovery 

As an airport operator for 39 years I have recovered (picked up) countless airplanes where the gear either collapsed(like this one) or, more typically, the pilot forgot to lower the landing gear. My mantra is the same. DO NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. Great job, sir.

This guy is an amazing preformer. His night time routine is crazy. Yonkin airshows.

Back in the early eighties I watched two F15s take off at Lambert airport in st Louis. You could feel the big plate glass windows move. They went down the runway then seemed like straight up and gone. Remember it like it was yesterday. So cool.

Picking up an aircraft is always difficult. No convenient lifting points on top. Those engine mounts they hooked to were well forward of center of gravity so the tail would have stayed on the ground the entire time. To have lifted it level you would have needed to add links to the tail tie down point to shift the spreader bar to the rear. More over the center of the wing. Trying to sling under the fuselage would have likely wrinkled something.

I can imagine what the F-16 take-off was like, as I lived in Darwin Australia for 3yrs used to go down to the end of the runway when the RAAF were doing exercises with the F-111c they ran doing emergency take-off using the afterburners, was even better at night.

Some info on the aircraft it’s quite a special plane a beech 18 built as an AT-7C for the air Corp in 1943 it flies acrobatics for air shows and as far as I know is bone stock the engines are radial style rolls Royce R985s putting out 450hp a piece the one on the captains side will need to be rebuilt as is standard with all prop strikes This is kinda common of a failure on these usually it’s the gear won’t come up As for the cost a used one is around 350k to 500k this being a good condition I’d say more the 500

Unfortunately, there will have to be a full landing gear system overhaul, Left engine will have to be removed and torn down, inspected and rebuilt (Prop Strike) and then the left wing and airframe will have to be inspected.. While I agree in your assessment that it doesn't seem that bad, (it most certainly could have been worse), it's a lot more damaged than it appears. As you said though, the most important thing, was nobody was hurt, and all walked away. The Beautiful Beech 18 can be repaired/refurbished. Humans.... Much more fragile. You mentioned you didn't know the value, but from an armchair guess, based on what I can see, it looks like a fairly pristine plane. (prior to incident) Ballpark guess? 300k - 500k. Could even be more. I can't say. Very nice job on this recovery! My hats off to you sir!

Its a Beechcraft 18 aka "Twin Beech" Production was around the late 30s to late 60s I think.

Thank you for another nice video! Have you considered buying a power-bank? It's just an external rechargeable battery that outputs USB power to charge anything that charges from a USB cable. Usually quite affordable and cheaper than camera batteries. Kind regards.

2:42 with the upside down shackle does this have to do with the slide load the straps on the plane will exert? Does it’s orientation matter when it’s one strap connected to another?

Are you running a rolling block above the spreader bar or are the chokers going to the hook?

That Beach 18 has a interesting background since new. They are beautiful planes. Beach 18’s vary in price. A good flying example is about 300K. Price moves with engine times since overhaul, avionics and other items.
