Airpods Pro 2 vs Airpods Pro 1: Upgrade? Which one to buy? 

Just to give my personal experience from first to second gen, I am a landscaper and these buds are a life saver to listen to podcasts and music and not the loud equipment I have everyday. The second gen is significantly better for canceling out my loud mowers, trimmers, etc. I can still hear them but with my podcasts and music on, it’s almost like they aren’t there. I am a person to be hyper focused with my surrounding because I can’t hear everything so if you are someone to tune out from your surrounding, just be careful using them. The battery life on the second gen can last me anywhere from 6-8 hours with active noise cancellation on, without recharging in the case. This is huge for me since I could be working this long without a break. They also gain a significant amount of battery in a short time. Hope this helps someone in similar line of field who is looking into these.

i bought my first airpods with this gen as before i didn't think it was good value for money. But on this gen, boy oh boy are they worth the money...good transparency, good battery and pretty decent music quality plus the added features.. definitely worth a buy

From my experience with AirPods, I have used the AirPods Pro 2nd gen, and already had the AirPods 2nd gen. The sound and noise cancellation is absolutely amazing with Pro ones but they get uncomfortable. I used the pro ones for 2 weeks and I had to keep fixing them to the ear shape. I went back to the AirPods 2nd gen, and they are too comfortable that I forget I have on. Just that they are full time transparency mode, but they have a comfort attribute to them compared to the latest.

Transparency is what sold me. Battery is also very much welcome since I will put them 6 hours in a row which I did but had to recharge earbuds individually to keep them on. Most features are a cool upgrade but I am not too stuck up on them.

I got mine yesterday upgrading from AirPods 1. I’ve never owned the pro but I had to pick my jaw off the floor! I was really impressed. No regrets at all. I bought the Sony MX5 and will be returning those!

Just want to mention that there is an EQ in Apple Music settings (the iPhone settings not in the music app) where you can select a “type” of music you’re listening to. Spotify has their own EQ (desktop). But nothing in-built to the AirPods settings (as far as I know, I personally don’t own one so there may be a setting I’m missing).

If you have Apple Music, you can adjust the eq in the settings, although they’re just presets. One of the reasons I switched to Spotify is the full 6 band eq adjustment. But of course, it only works in Apple Music. No device-wide eq yet.

Jo its true that they dont have a global eq, but you can create your on sound profile/hearing profile under accessibility, its quite hidden but there. After rating a few sounds you can switch your personal hearing prefs (for me balanced tones)... and that fixed the too bassy airpods for me. Now absolutely love them.

Don't forget headphone accommodations if you want a basic equaliser to tune your airpods. You can even create an audiogram to upload using something like 'Mimi hearing test' to further improve the sound of your headphones.

Just for clarification you get the adaptive personalised spatial audio on the first gen too 👍

I still have the very first Airpods from 2016 and I really like them. I can't complain at all so im very excited to try out the brand new airpods pro 2nd gen which I just ordered.

My dad bought these airpods pros before! 1st gen in 2020 for the pandemic so that he can do work calls, and the 2nd gen in 2022 as it got old. He loves it!

The new case functionalities and battery life are the best features personally after having them for a week, ios 16 allows for personalized spatial audio on the airpod pro 1st gens so I havent really noticed a difference on sound quality, but battery life has been a huge upgrade. Everything else seems so minor but definitely a welcomed refresh. And fyi if you have a case on your airpod case, apple watch charging does not work ;(

Just a note - MagSafe charging was added to the gen 1 case at some point and is now standard. Gen 2 added Apple Watch charging which I’ve actually used quite a bit! Also personalized spatial audio is actually a feature of iOS 16. You can use it with the old AirPods Pro as well. In my testing however, I didn’t notice a difference on the old AirPods Pro after setting it up. I’d highly recommend spending some more time with Apple Music lossless and spatial audio as I’ve found it to be absolutely mind blowing. Completely immersive. Apple’s claim that it sounds like you’re on stage with the artist hold’s absolutely true for me. I agree with your take though. Nothing wrong with the first gen if they’re working for you. But if you do decide to upgrade, it’s WELL worth it in my opinion and you have quite a bit to look forward to. Thanks for the video!

The first gen offers personalized spatial audio as well. I just finished my set up on my gen 1.

AirPods Pro 2 have static feedback when working around compressed air when in ANC or transparency mode. It’s horrible. This is a common issue that’s supposedly under review and to be addressed in the firmware. But currently, the gen 1 works better if you work around compressed air. Other than that, the gen 2 is an improvement almost across the board.

I work in a warehouse and I have the Gen 1 Pros, they seem to have adaptive noise transparency as well. The sounds that are louder and constant get tuned out

I still love my Pros and won’t be switching anytime soon as I’ve only had them for two years. A louder chime would be nice but I’m not getting rid of perfectly good earbuds to get the latest and greatest every time. I am excited about the volume control though. That will be something to look forward the next time I want to upgrade.

Could never really afford the first gen so my very first AirPods Pro were the second gen. Noice cancellation blocks out all the white noice (such as cars, or transportation) and it does great, but if ur in a party for example you would still hear the music. What I mean, is that it is still not perfect, far from it. Spatial audio is just wow. The immersive sound creates a 360 degree feeling, and you can hear instruments from everywhere. There’s an EQ in the settings, and it’s been there for a while!It’s in the Apple Music settings, but it controls all sound playback. I prefer keeping it on the Late Night setting.

I had the Airpods 2nd gen for more than 3yrs if only the batteries not damage i wouldn't upgrade, i bought the new Pro 2nd gen and as my experience this had definitely a better sound quality. As far as comfortability i think the regular airpods has a comfortable feel for me but the problem is it's easy to take off there are time it falls to my ear when i'm biking. But these new Airpods pro 2nd gen has a huge impact for me coming from using a regular airpods for 3yrs and i love it.

Nice vid. Even though I bought the first airpods pro at launch too, I'm going to hold off on upgrading in the hopes that Apple releases the airpods Max at a lower price, with lossless audio, and use the money towards that.

I know the Pro 2 looks similar but damn there's a huge difference from the 1st generation. Sound quality and noise canceling are the biggest difference. There's nice touches as to adjusting the volume on the ear tip and loud beeping sound when you need to locate it.

you may already know this but by what youve said you dont know, apple has an eq hut only for apple music, and spotify has one if you use that app, settings>playback>equilizer AND you can customize it to your general liking of songs because of course every song would sound better a little bit different

There are some preset EQ settings in the music section of the settings app. And there is a flat setting

Apple does have the reduce bass eq. However I would like it if they give us the ability to customize the eq to our liking.

I want the 2nd gen just for the U1 chip and lanyard loop. I’ve sent my 1st gen case and AirPods through the washer and dryer three times (they still work, no replacements). I’m awful with keeping up with them.

as a person with oily skin immediately noticed that the new Pros have a much grippier ear tips, almost sandpaper like texture to them. also if you got your AirPod Pros 1 from Costco and you never activated AppleCare, you can take them back to Costco even if it's been three years and they will refund you or exchange your old Pros for the new ones, which I just did like an hour ago.

You are the best reviewer I’ve seen on any product! I have AirPod Pro g1, trying to justify 💲 for the g2. I know the advanced features are great but the ONLY one that would sell me completely is… will the new xs silicone bud covers stop my buds from constantly falling out of my ears??? Is spending 💲250 ($199 now) worth it to see if it solves my microscopic Fk’ed up ear canal situation ⁉️ I have bought so many different attachments to try to prevent my AirPod Pros from falling out I tend to grab my mofer Bose headphones instead! I’m desperate. 😩😩😩😩

My only complaint about the AirPods Pro is really a design. At this point, it’s an AirPods complaint. It used to be AirPods. In fact, a lot of people are still sticking with the second generation because the AirPods 3 and the Pro design, really it doesn’t stay in your ear. It seems when the AirPods were released, if everyone remembers, the reviewers hated it. And I’m not sure if it’s because the reviewers have similar ears, but yeah, they hated it. They said this wasn’t going to catch on, and of course, it catched on with, you know, every man. Basically, AirPods, the original ones, were great. They fit in your ear. In fact, you forgot they were in your ears. And in some cases, you thought they were still in your ears after you took them out because they were that comfortable. The AirPods original Pro redesigned it and made it very uncomfortable. Now, I own the original Pros. I ended up returning them because they were so uncomfortable. Now, eventually, I did end up getting the AirPods 3, and the AirPods 3 were unfortunately still the same design. They were a little bit more comfortable, but not really. The problem is, too, when you’re eating with these things in your ears, they end up coming out as opposed to the original AirPods design. So, I think a lot of people, too, are sort of holding out, waiting to see if Apple is going to go back to another design because this design, it’s just not comfortable. I highly recommend it. You know, try it out. See if you like it. But, yeah, there’s something about that old AirPods design where it just sat in your ears, and it was just comfortable. I mean, who cares how they looked? And I think that was something that Marquez and other reviewers noted. They looked like cotton balls. There’s, you know, Q-tips sticking out of your ears, but when it came down to it, they were wrong, and the consumer was right. All I needed to hear was, you could stick your AirPods in the case, and it charges within 15 minutes, and I was sold. And then, again, as soon as the original AirPods sat in your ear and you forgot about it, that’s all it took for most people like me. But, again, the design is horrible. I’m hoping Apple goes back to the drawing board because their current design is, ugh, it’s terrible.

I personally have the AirPods Pro gen 1 and I will be keeping these. Yeah the gen 2 has some cool new features but the upgrade is not worth the price. I’ll be sticking with my gen 1 for now but still a pretty cool new release of AirPods from Apple.

Hey Josh, you said that you would get the AirPods Pro 2 because the 60$ Price difference isn't that substantial. But now the price difference is even higher with the 1. Generation Pros being at 200$ and the AirPods Pros being at 300$. Would you reconsider your opinion or would you still say that you should get the 2nd Generation?

if you’re using airpods from a spotify POV you’re missing out. i know some people may not want to pay $9.99 a month for spotify premium or for apple music but if you’re a heavy user if airpods and can afford the monthly payment, i would recommend apple music. he was talking about the flat sounding airpods pro 1st gen. they’re not flat sounding if you are using spatial audio. it is truly incredible how it sounds. you are in the song if you are using spatial audio. you can hear every little song detail if you have SA. it is incredible and i couldnt imagine anything sounding ‘way better’ than the airpods pro with spatial audio.

Just ordered a pair of 2nd gen pros

I upgraded from a AirPod Pro 1st Gen. to a 2nd Gen. AirPod Pro. A refurbished AirPod Pro 2nd Gen. was $179.99 + tax. from Best Buy. I notice an improvement in sound quality. I'm glad I upgraded.
