A review of the beautiful replacement instrument panels for the HK models 1/32 Lancaster. If you only buy one upgrade for your Lancaster, get this one. It is a must have considering there are no decals or moulded faces in the kit. I also look at other items available from Airscale.
All products here are purchased by myself so this is an unbiased review.

A lovely pe set but if i was spending that much on a Lancaster kit i would expect this sort of thing to be with the kit

I agree Greg, this kit should have a LOT more than it comes with. It has less detail than a £20 Bronco kit!!

That instrument panel looks like total shite. For the price of the kit I would expect somethong that atleast has some depth. Maybe it is just how it comes up in the camera. The aftermarket looks bloody nice.

Thanks Nigel. Have just ordered one from Airscale. Peter at Airscale was very quick to respond to my website query too. Am about to start the HKM Dambuster and want it to be be as correct as possible so this is an ideal improvement.

Hi Nigel - you really went to town on those Airscale products. Those bezels look great for my scifi cockpits too. Thanks for another great video.

Makes us wish, they made the model instead of HK, at least, we can get these and not scratch build them. Yes the HK instrument panel is, well should never of been released and we have 1/72 instruments that have more details. When a modeler buys a kit and that kit is only made by only 1 mfr, then, we best be prepared to make up for what the mfr failed to include or to model correctly, 1/32 A-10, comes to mind

Dead right Richard.. That A-10 nose is bloody pathetic.. but then so many model aircraft noses are!!

Not having used etched parts before I was a little dubious. After you review however I feel much more confident about it. Thanks Nigel.

Hi Edward, I *have* used PE before, and I'd say this set isn't for a beginner. This is in no way a pop at the Airscale parts, they are exquisitely detailed and engineered but they are tricky, mainly due to their size (or lack thereof!). I recommend you acquire a fairly viscous superglue to allow you to bed the throttle levers, etc, into their miniscule slots. The runny stuff will drive you quietly mad... probably. You'll also need some very fine plastic rod to install the starter buttons, and a few other switches and raised components onto the backplate. Good luck!
@edsternet
@edsternet 5 лет назад
@@mikehislop6482 That's great advice Mike. Luckily I love the intricate detail aspect so i am not daunted by the prospect. Good idea about the plastic rod starter buttons. So, you are building everything as it should be from the face side but building it up from the backplate. It makes sense.

I’ve been searching high and low for some actual 1/32 crew to actually go inside the Lanc but I can’t find anyone who does than the closet is an entire crew walking over to it

Nigel ! On the PE set part number 19, the flight panel is yours curved ? Mine is curved and no matter what I do to straighten it, it goes back to a curve, pretty pissed off if I'm honest.

I will have a look and let you know.. theres a fix for it I'm sure, it's justy how I go about it??
@IanLanc
@IanLanc 5 лет назад
@@NigelsModellingBench Well I've bent mine to the opposite curve [again] then sandwiched it between two really heavy book, removed the part and it was straight/flat, then freakishly it started to curve again over about 4 hours. Next thing I'm going to try is boiling water or cooker gas ring, then between two coasters and dunk it in cold water.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 5 лет назад
@@IanLanc What i think we are experiencingn here is the removal of material from one side of the sheet causing internal stresses to curve the material up. As you say, perhaps try heating then rolling. Annealing on non ferrous material is achieved by heating and quenching, the opposite to ferrous. i think then it would lay however you want it to as the stresses would be removed. Let us all know how you get on please.

Hi Nigel The instrument panel upgrade you reviewed would this be the same instrument panel on a b mk lll as I’m looking at upgrading my instrument panel on the hk dambuster kit I have and was wandering if the mk l is the same as the mklll. Thanks in advance
@NigelsModellingBench

I believe it is yes. I am told the only difference is that the III has the Packard engines.

Why oh why oh why are these kits built in 1:32nd scale, why don't the makers just go that little bit further and make them in 1:35th? If they did then a multitude of figures ,vehicles and accessories would instantly become compatible! The difference in overall size between a 1:32 and 1:35 Lanc kit would be miniscule but noticeable if the two are mismatched, very frustrating.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 5 лет назад
Actually, the difference in the wingspan of a 1/32 vs 1/35 Lanc would be over 83mm. In fact, 1/32 used to be the standard, the Japanese changed the scale to 1/35. The difference is noticeable when you see 1/32 and 1/35 models together.
@antonrudenham3259
@antonrudenham3259 5 лет назад
@@NigelsModellingBench Yes, I said that all wrong ,doh! What I meant was that 1:35 extras would look all wrong alongside a 1:32 scale aircraft but by simply reducing the size from 1m wingspan to 91.4cm the kit would be more manageable and standard 1:35 scale goodies such as figures and vehicles and ammo boxes could be used. I'm really looking forward to seeing your completed kit but for me the scale is 'wrong' and I'll stick to 1:48. Thanks for posting this and happy modelling.
