The inner barrel, a component in every airsoft replica that plays an important role when it comes to shot range and accuracy. Within this part there are different lengths, materials, connections and, above all, different diameters.
With new players, but also experienced players there can sometimes be some confusion when which type of inner barrel is the best choice for what this player wants to achieve with their replica. So, let's get all the facts straight.

Nice round-up. It's funny, currently brass is more expensive than stainless steel, certainly in China anyway. From my own discussions with manufacturers the real bulk of the cost is in the polishing of the inside, what they call the Roughness Average level. Interesting stuff, thanks for the video.

I recently learned about the Bernoulli Principle. If applied to an airsoft bb in an inner barrel it would mean that the bb does not travel across the top of the barrel, but instead it is centered by this principle. It does make sense in my mind, but then again.. I never paid too much attention in physics class lol.

The BB does not travel on top of the innerbarrel. There is even a proving video on YT.

Airsoft BB bounces off the top of the barrel. The backspin applied by the hopup (magnus effect) also happens inside the barrel. Whatfor5 who invented the rhop has a video on this. It's titled Rhop barrel dynamics test. He coated a barrel in machinist's blue and ran many BB's through it. Almost no wear marks anywhere but the top of the barrel. Edit: The video appears to be unlisted. I guess I'll pickup my drawers and enter back into the teching world.

Not many Airsofters know this but there are companies out there that perform "barrel lapping" services. This service takes a drill of sorts and makes the barrel as smooth as possible inside to reduce these bumps. Using a service like this costs a LOT of money but you're also increasing your bb accuracy due to improvements.
@Arjen511

You can get 3d printed attachments for a cleaning rod that allows you to apply a polishing compound and do it yourself if you have enough time on your hands. I do think there is a difference between polishing and lapping though. Using a drill and polishing/improving the finish of the barrel can be done in just a couple of minutes with the right equipment. But the way I understand it; lapping is only done in straight motions and several "grits" of compound should be used to get a perfect mirror finish in the barrel. Might be wrong about this, but this is what I learned years ago. Bottom line is that it'll take a lot of time lol.
@RC_Trailblazers
@RC_Trailblazers 3 месяца назад
You both are incorrect. You don't want to use a drill when lapping a inner barrel. Only forward and backwards motions. Also it's not a polish it's a diamond lapping compound. You can polish a barrel with a drill but never lapping. You'll do more harm then good. Umbrella Armory does lapping, it's a bit expensive but very worth it if you're planning on keeping that gun/barrel for a very long time!

I was thinking of getting the "unicorn ultimate precision 265mm 6.03mm barrel/bucking" for my KWA Eve 9, Do you reccomend any different barrels? Im willing to spend up to $70 for a barrel/bucking, thanks... I want tighter groupings at longer distances

Hey i cant understand what is the difference between 6.05 and 6.03 which is better for long range and accuracy because i want to get the DE m906c but its with 6.05 is it bad? Or the ST46D 10RS SMR SPORTS LINE G3 AEG [S&T] with 6.03 or what is the best one with no more that 300mm brrel for 200$

Generally the tighter the barrel, the more precision you'll get. How wider the barrel, the more range you'll get.

How is a polished copper inner barrel? Any good ?
@krale-airsoft4177

A inner barrel should come polished already. How ever, the higher quality the barrel, the better the polishing and the overal finish of the product.

@@krale-airsoft4177 gotcha. Copper being the material is that any good?
@krale-airsoft4177
@krale-airsoft4177 Год назад
I think you're refering to brass, as that is the copper alloy that is used for the barrels. Brass barrels can perform very well when they are of high quality. But because the material is softer, damage can occur more easily over time. Decreasing its performance. It's also possible that the barrel might see some oxidization if not cleaned propperly and regularly.

What about tightbore vs widebore rifling Spin stabilisation will occur through contact with the bb, if strong enough a barrel could be fully replaced with a rifled one, giving great precision

What to do when the inner barrel wobbles?
@krale-airsoft4177

You can place an o-ring around the front to use it as a spacer or place a square of electrical tape on the top
@kasuraga
@kasuraga 4 месяца назад
it also helps to wrap some teflon around your bucking and barrel to make the fit in the hop up unit better. Also look into shimming your frame to keep the hop up from wobbling around
@airsoftphysik4342

your chapter on the internal diameter has several mistakes first of all no, the BB does not travel at the top of the barrel, thats a age old myth what actually happens is that the BB is centered in the bore but gravitates slightly down, this is due to the airflow blowing past the BB meaning that the air pushes past the BB at greater speed that also means that the magnus effect is reversed and combined with gravity the BB sits low in said barrel nextly on tightbore barrels the "centering force" that keeps the BB in the centre of the bore is actually alot higher than with widebore barrels that is explained by the bernuli principle where: A: faster airstreams provide higher forces B: a constriction in the diameter of a tube increases the flow speed these 2 effects mean that the smaller gap between barrel and BB has a much higher "blow by" (flow speed) of the air and that higher flow speed results in a much higher force to center the BB that higher force combined with a overall tighter possible path the BB can take means that on equal bore quality a tightbore barrel will ALWAYS be better than widebore barrels.

Barrel length DOES impact accuracy. The tech at our local field showed a video where he shot two of the exact same gun (G&G, I think). One had a 5 inch barrel, one had a 9 inch barrel. The groupings shot by the 9 inch were tighter. Other than that, your video does seem pretty helpful!
@metalfusion1319
@metalfusion1319 Год назад
He went over this in the video, the 5 inch barrel probably didn’t have enough time to stabilize the bb

@detroit0man

It may depend on the air volume ratio between cylinder and inner barrel, wich may be optimized or not for a barrel lenght. Not necessary because is longer. More length is needed when joules also grow up. It happens that manufactures use exactly the same internals for different length replicas, except for the barrel. And this is an error.
