I completely understand your point, however the larger end will assist with more airflow, however it will be slightly slowed when entering the turbo and the smaller end. It’s very rare you find an intake pipe that maintains the same diameter throughout, as the turbo entry diameter will usually be smaller than the cone pipe dimensions (unless you’re running a massive turbo. I now own an rs3 and have an insane intake , the pipe is massive compared to stock, yet they still have a smaller end where the turbo sits, but performance is increased a great amount. I hope this helps. P.S I never bought the airtec crossover pipe for performance gains, aesthetics only, performance gains were a bonus

@@AutoBay thanks for the quick response! Okay, I understand. So is the smaller diameter part the same size as OEM since it needs to fit? Or is it actually slightly bigger still? I just don't understand why they just didn't make the last bit smaller in diameter instead of half the pipe you know? I've seen 3 inch pipes now that u mentioned it where only the really last part of the pipe is smaller. Do crossover pipes actually give a measurable performance gain?

@@drasx no problem mate, yes if I remember correctly the smaller part is the same size as the stock pipe. If I was being really anal I’d say the airtec pipe is a few mmm bigger as it’s a bastard to get into the turbo to cross over pipe. And to be honest mate it won’t make much difference, unless you had a large cone and turbo to cross over pipe to go with the large cross over pipe. Once tuned the larger pipes will be more beneficial, a stock turbo can only spool up so much depending on boost pressure

I guess there are better mods to be done. Why did you change your stock one? Because of the additional power you've put on? Cheers!

I got mine with an induction kit mate, was sold as a set. And also the stock valve isn’t too good after a tune!

Did you struggle getting it to fit into the turbo to cross over pipe aswell mate? It was a pain in the ass getting it to fit properly, you may have to angle the mounting arm that’s attached to the pipe. I expect you’ve got a gap somewhere at either end of the cross over pipe causing your boost leak.

@@AutoBay a hour I was wrestling it on for but on to the standard turbo pipe have got a silicon one but I'm not even attempting that ... I'm going to take it to a garage to fit it then they will have to put the rest on properly lol

Just had the silicon turbo pipe fitted still no joy the crossover doesn't fit properly still... U can get it into the turbo pipe but just can't get the right angle on it to bolt in

Richard thomas they changed the design in 2007 mate, the directed the secondary vacuum line else where rather than going into the crossover like yours does

@@AutoBay yes must of moved it for some reason, can I ask you, have you had esp/abs come on with p0101 maf issue.No eml on though.my maf in same place as yours,checked all pipes for leaks all good,off to a&e motorsport tomorrow to pick a new maf up.

Nice bro! Intake would be good mate, however it won’t really add any perforce on a disel (unless it’s tuned). Performance air filters are mainly beneficial at higher RPM, and diesels don’t rev high so the intake is never used to its full potential, however it will make the car sound great, and if you plan to tune it, then the intake will be perfect 👌🏼 possibly exhaust modifications? DPF/EGR delete?

@@AutoBay was thinking of those too, but seeing that I live in a country where the top limit is 80kmh, there's not much to drive around There are locations where i pushed up to 150 at most but margin of error was significantly reduced due to the lack of acceleration. Surely adding dual suspension with maxton diffuser in future as well, thanks for the advice and keep up the good work!!
