Turns out I have a bit of an unexpected treble lift coming in on the stuff I'm using to CUT extreme lows, and it's adding more hype and space than I thought. Bear with me: ConsoleMC is not going away, but I'm looking into whether I ought to quickly put out a variation (quickly as in, already out as ConsoleMD). See the following video, use whichever you like best :)
Wow Chris I swear, You are just a gift to DSP and music creators everywhere. I am so, so grateful, and blown away by what you do. Sincerely, Thank you.
Truly grateful for the plugins and the zjourney it took you to get to this level of depth and quality with this latest release🔥 As much as you say its not as desirable, I really can't wait for your take on an SSL console coz I love that 9K sound the most as it just sounds like what I grew up on. That and the Neve sound
Hi Chris!! I just discovered Airwindows, and I congratulate you for the excellent work you are doing. One question: In your audio chain, how do you think about compression? I've noticed that you practically don't use compression on the channels. If you did, would it come before the ConsoleMC plugin? The same question for using the ToTape7 plugin, is it usually placed before or after the ConsoleMC? Thanks a lot!!
It's the evil voice in your head bridge! :D again, you can and should apply this to your own music. I just needed to make a Console that could do a mix that intense :)
Two random comments; 1. There's something about the lighting in this video that feels very 80's to me. Not sure what it is, just the way the light hits your hair, and the blinking lights in the background, it's really cool. 2. Had the realization watching the Airwindows system, gear and all, is basically the libre version of the Softube Console1 system, which is even cooler than point one lol Anyway, amazing plugin, have been using it for months now!
Turns out I was using Console as a name for a plugin system before Softube. I'm not going to do anything to them (I consider it sort of like calling something an 'EQ' or 'compressor') but their thing is using a name that was already in use :)
I like that song you're using on this one, reminds me of a track that Motorpsycho did, called Kill Devil Hills. Nowhere near the same progression, but a similar sonic vibe IMO
This ConsoleMC is pure magic. ConsoleMD is nice but MC has that extra phatness. Man I'm so happy. Thank you for this Chris. Excited to see what the future holds for you! I'm curious: have you ever considered adding the Neve 5060 to your Console repertoire?
Hey there ! Thanks a lot for the work and effort that went into this and the ones before. Just a quick question, usually I have all parameters/dials when using in FL Studio, but this time I have none on Channel and Buss. Any suggestions beside switching the DAW ? 😂
It's the same generic parameter code as in all other plugins I make. You should at least be able to see Buss which is just one slider. What about other plugins I make, do those show parameters? Do you need to switch to a generic parameter mode to get 'em?
@@airwindows Hey there, thanks for the reply ! Buss shows me one dial for Volume, one for panning. Usually I got all that you intended to, like for example right now I got BassKit in a Mix and it does have all dials. Actually I don’t have to switch something, when I use the plugins you provide the dials and parameters are there. First time I encounter something like this
@@airwindows Re-Install worked, got all 6 dials/parameters on channel, buss 1 master vol ! Thanks anyway for the reply, actually I never had something like this with your other plugins before. ✌️
My Daw/Card combo can run 48k at best. Also the daw doesn't support oversampling of plugins natively, It does have module that has 4x oversampling built in that allows you to insert FX pre and post module signal chain eg (audio > pre module fx -> module with 4xOS - > post module fx ) would that work or would running a plugin like glissEQ flat with oversampling enabled after the MCI channel/buss be a better option?
Highs and lows are much like a multi-stage version of the way I did it in CStrip, except using Pear EQ for crossover points. It's a pretty flexible approach: every lettered Console's highs and lows will sound and act different consistent to what those big analog desks were like.
@@airwindows thanks for the answer. Pear is my go to mixing filter now, realy great and transparent. And for boosting highs I often use AverMatrix, gives cool and special results.
interesting, but I'm still cloudy on how console emus work (or why to use them, I'm a trog.) the concept refuses to stick in my brain. however it would be much easier if DAWS had an option to load the console emulation circuit of your choice. like if Reaper had an option where you could use the stock summing process or load third party ones such as Airwindows.
Congrats on this! Great job! It's really special tool from what I feel for now. I'm going to try it and compare in with BitShiftConsole (my fav for now), and of course mix with it something after I'll get more familiar with it's sound. Chris, can I ask, Fader parameter - is it PurestGain or usual gain or some modification?
Any gain trim inside an Airwindows plugin functions as PurestGain because they all dither to floating point. Fader is doubly like PurestGain since the pan is BitShiftPan making it more like there's only one gain operation in the plugin… I would say it's all 'some modification'. There is even a modification of Sinew on the master buss, audible when you push the level and brightness of the mix too hard.
@@airwindows cool! About the purest gain in all your plugins - has it always been like this or does it make sense to reload old plugins? And second related question. I like to use your Dark plugin the most out of all other dithers, and not only on a master. Is there a possibility and more importantly a practical sense to incorporate Dark into PurestGain instead of dither stage in it? For the sake of another textural option.
It's way brighter than the Heritage analog mix. Traditionally when mixers and musicians get new tools they use the hell out of them: I couldn't have got that kind of energy out of the no-EQ analog mix, even though many tracks had some form of simpler EQ on them.
seems to be working, will leave artists list quoted from SOS Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bad albums were recorded by Bruce Swedien through a 32C, for example. They also played a role in hit records by Paul Simon, Janet Jackson, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, ELO, Genesis, Blondie and Supertramp, and big‑name artists from ABBA to Zappa had one installed in personal studios.
Oh, right! Now that you mention it I remember the Bruce Swedien/Harrison connection. I'm not aware of where they got used with AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, or Genesis, though. Or really anything beyond Thriller… it's like CADAC, my research didn't really turn up enough. Are you suggesting UMRK was Harrison? Stuff like Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch?
yes Bruce was very much into Harrison, i wasn't aware about the other artists until now , some quite big names. just tested the software and made a connection with your plugins in terms of quality. yes its from the quote on sound on sound website says that Zappa's studio was Harrison. would hope that sound on sound got it right. i will have a look more deeply into what songs used Harrison and get back to you. @@airwindows
I've always allowed for added reverb, and added delays, to run 'inside' Console so the space they are in, is expanded using the same kind of space you get between mixer channels :) also, note that the auxes are getting attenuated, like if you were applying the DAW fader on them. Feeding an all-wet reverb buss it's not as big of a deal :) if I was making the whole DAW I'd fix it, though.
Ah gotcha, makes sense . Thanks! I’m in the middle of mixing a record and currently using pure console 2. I’m tempted to redo it with this one, but I don’t think the clients are willing to wait lol.@@airwindows Before I got my hardware reverbs I would use the sendit plug-in from bluecat audio before the console channel plug-in to send to the verb aux, and then just encode the verb track like a regular track. It’s a handy little plug-in
i miss airwindows plugins..i had to sell my imac..havent had a chance to get another one..i use my ipad to make music now..i bought a bunch of airwindows 50 bucks a piece back then..but i cant use them in my ipad..please make these compatible with auv3
@@airwindows thanks for replying..i hope someone does know..i remember back then when it was only on au and lots of windows people kept asking you to make it available for them too..well its a good sign that you have it for many other formats now..hope more ipad people start asking you lol
@@airwindows I don't know how, but it seems pretty possible looking over the apple documentation. For iOS it might make sense to have a few collections of your stuff as channel strips. If my day job gets boring as it often does over the winter I might take a swing at a conversion, since your source is open.
