Chabahar has the capacity to develop into a big commercial port and service the needs of Iran. It will also help in India in making its presence felt in the Persian gulf area. I hope and wish that it is developed soon enough.

We, in India, have the same kind of ‘Machwara’ trade done through two three ports in Saurashtra and Kutch ( Gujarat ). All these Machwara Trade is done for food Material ( Wheat-Rice-Cereals-Edible Oil-Many other Materials ), When I was in Muscat, Oman my company used to import food materials from India the same way transport was done. A Company from Mumbai was exporting many other materials through Mandvi Port, Kutch- Gujarat. There are two three ports like Porbunder,Mangrol-Veraval and Daman ( South Gujarat ) popular for fishing etc. In past when the trains were not established the transport of people, goods and animals was done through Karachi ( now in Pakistan ), Mandvi-Salaya, Porbunder, Veraval, Div, Bhavnagar, Surat, Daman, Vasai, Mahim, Mumbai Ports, Alibaugh, Janjira and Ratnagiri etc. Goa was established the same way. In south India ports like Mangalore, Kochin, Madras, Viazag, Cuttack, Calcutta, Jaffna ( Sri Lanka ), Chittagong ( now in Bangladesh) and Rangoon ( now in Myanmar ). India had trades with all middle east and East African Countries. Today also all these ports are very much in use and cover South and East Asian Countries till Hongkong.
