If that's what you think then you didn't understand Devdas at all. Devdas is what we would call the embodiment of Toxic Masculinity today. He was always in love with Paro but never gave her the acceptance that she deserved. He just always assumed that Paro would always wait for him and his approval. After Devdas rejects her when she asks him to marry her, Paro picks up whatever is left of her wounded pride and says yes to the marriage proposal that is brought for her from a respectable family, even though the groom himself is quite senior to her, because the main reason she didn't get any respect from Dev and his family was because her family was of lower status than his. It's only after Paro is out of reach that Dev starts to regret his treatment of her and the guilt of not treating Paro right starts to consume him till the point that he destroys his relationship with his family, his health, his chance at redemption with Chandramukhi's love and eventually dies at Paro's door. Paro only had to endure a loveless marriage but by all means she lived a comfortable life. Devdas on the other hand paid for his mistakes with his life.

@@ShwetaGupta-hd6yk I agree a woman can be happy without sex,love or kids.but paro was never that woman.she wanted all those. things with devdas.but after what devdas did ,she still tried to move on.if she had married a younger man who gv her wife rights she would have been happy.maybe she won't have forgotten dev but atleast she won't have been lonely.she may not love her husband as much as she loved dev but still she would have had a understanding and loving partner.paro already belonged to a well to do family (even though they were lower caste)...so a rich husband won't have made that much of a difference.
