Hey everyone, here is my take on my favorite lens, the Aivascope 1.5x anamorphic lens.
I mainly shoot travel videos, short docs, and music videos. Most of what I do are run and gun or with a splinter crew so I'm looking at it through that lens.

As for the MD to E-mount adapters. From the video, it seems like you are using the basic Fotodiox adapter, right? Is it good enough even for a heavier setup with the aiavascope? Have you tested fotodiox pro?

@@kacofilms_weddings Yeah, hey I'm using the Fotodiox adapter. I also have s K&N adapter but it has some play to it when I mount it on all my MD glass. No I haven't tried the pro version. It's holding up pretty well. I would recommend using a lens support for longer lenses though

The aivascope has been great but I rarely use it on a zoom. I do a lot of traveling so I don’t use it on a regular. It’s a bit to heavy and cumbersome for that type of run and gun. When I do use it for travel, I put it on Mamiya 80mm

Seems it starts to work with the 58 mm Helios 44 M in the tube around 19:27. For intended purpose, like a District 9 documentary look. A bit less muted with the Minolta 45 mm, but still there. @ejgravolin

Fantastic work, mate! I'm looking at buying an Aivascope to use with my FX3. I saw you were able to get great coverage with the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8, and the Minolta Rokkor 45mm f2. I wanted to ask, do you know any other wide options that would pair well with the FX3 and Aiva? And how did you avoid the crazy vignetting? I was told the Aiva couldn't pair with anything less than 50mm...
@houseofintent
@houseofintent Год назад
Thanks! I appreciate it. It honestly depends on the lens. I’m not quite sure exactly why in terms of the mechanics but I had some vignetting on the Sony 80mm and that’s well over 50.

I have a Vazen 40mm that I've been trying to find a good combination for (I originally had a Z Cam E2 but didn't love the camera so I sold it) and, after seeing this video, I'm really tempted to sell the Vazen and pick up one of these to pair with my A7sii. Do you think the Aivascope would have any issues pairing with the Mitakon 50mm f/0.95? That lens already has a ton of character so I'd be really interested to see that combo. I just discovered this lens and this video was incredibly helpful, so thank you!
@houseofintent
@houseofintent 3 года назад
Hey, great to see it's helpful. Having never used the Mitakon 50mm, it may vignette depending on the diameter of the actual front lens element of the lens (not the thread size). The rear lens element diameter of the amber coating aivascope is 38mm and the coating coating is 32mm. Like with any other taking lens, it's also going to be really soft wide open below f2.8
@salmosdelanoche

Just out of curiosity did you use/try any diffusion? Also, seeing that you were using ProRes RAW for all of this(?) was there a single color grading approach. Is there any color saturation difference with the scope on vs. off?What is the closest focusing distance of the aivascope?
@houseofintent
@houseofintent 3 года назад
I edit in Resolve so I had to convert it PR RAW to PR 4444. There's not really a single grading approach on this except for trying to match each clip from test to test. I didn't see any difference in color saturation with the scope. The biggest factor on that is the taking lens. The lens with the most saturation was the Konica 40mm. That had a lot of saturation that I had to bring it down in post. The minimum focusing distance is a little bit under 1 meter

@@houseofintent because one guy (Valdas M.) can't pretend having designed what teams of engineers (mechanical design and optics) did with real ressources at Isco, Bolex, Möller or Zeiss... I'm sorry but that Aivascope won't last. It's made from poor quality materials and was never tested for durabilty (I own couple "products" from Valdas). It's merely an expensive prototype... advertised by some Iscoramas stock owners too happy to now have a "reference tag" for doubling price of their precious Iscos since Aivascope been released.
@houseofintent
@houseofintent 3 года назад
@@iomDaiom It sounds like you're wanting a perfect lens from one guy and then comparing a "one man team" to a team with a lot more resources like Zeiss. With that said, I'd like to see you make the same caliber of lenses as Bolex, Moller, or Zeiss by yourself. And I'm not being rhetorical, if you think you have better resources to make a better lens that's compact, single focus, for full frame than Aivascope and have as much of a quality as Zeiss, and keep it relatively low in price (half the price of the Aivascope as you said), that would be great. Competition is always great for the end user.

I think it's best not assume other peoples needs are the same your own. 😉 I bought this lens because it fits what I do. I can't speak for others who have sold theirs but there are more people that have this lens and shoot with it compared to people that are selling it. Not sure what you do, if you just collect scopes, if you shoot with them at all, or just like to complain for the sake of complaining; but if you have a recommendation for a scope that's as light weight as the aivascope, cheaper in price, minimal DIY, single focused, and is 1.5x then lets talk cuz I'm looking for that lens otherwise not sure how you came up with the idea that I will sell this lens because others are selling it 🤨
