@Ms Mad Lemon. Thank you for this video. I bought the exact same Aiwa tape deck back in 1980. Don’t know if I missed it in your video, but did you have a wireless remote with your tape deck? My AD - M800 did and had all (I think) of the main controls as the deck itself, which was rare on a tape deck of that time, and the remote handset was well built. It was a superb machine - especially the DATA tape calibration system and the built-in “Tape Monitor” device thanks to the “V/Split ‘Head” system. Apparently, Aiwa used the TDK brand of cassette as their benchmark for the tape calibration system. I don’t know why I sold it! It was also available in a black finish in some countries. Those light-up VU meters are beautiful! Sounds like the auto-bias works well on this one.

I have a special love for cassette decks. No doubt it has to do with the long hours I spent as a teenager, selecting, laying out and recording custom tapes (both for myself and for friends). I also have a 90's 3 head SONY, pending to change the transmission belt. 😘👋

The bit at the start with you and Rich deciding who’s tapes are who’s is absolutely hilarious! l am sure l heard about licking property to claim it as your own 😂…that’s too funny. That Aiwa is a really nice deck, very well made and some really extensive features as well, (love that tascam CD player by the way), and the eventual repair results where amazing. I couldn’t tell the differences between the source and the tape monitor, fabulous audio quality! The Maddi and Rich double act was great, then Mr Neelix turns it into a triple act and l was sold 😂 Anyways, awesome video and l hope you have a good holiday coming up and all the best to you, Rich, Mr Neelix and everyone there ☺️👍🏼

Great video - such a nice tape deck, but, so tight to work around. You have way more patience with this sort of thing than I have. However, tapes, I still love them

i would like to have a new designed tape deck. with plenty of high quality knobs and buttons and made from metal like the 70's hi-fi components, but plenty of knobs and switches. similar to you aiwa. compatible to DCC. fully digital including all that dolby stuff. and a serial interface to a computer/gaming console. it should be compatible to commodore/atari etc. tape drives but should include more advanced codecs that are suitable to different tapes. maybe QAM can be used as well. a modern cheap 32bit microcontroller could handle that stuff easy. and of course with open source software. maybe as a DIY kit. first with a cheap plastic case and knobs. and maybe later to upgrade with a shiny front panel and all that jazz.

Had similar problem with a dual motor drm-550 denon sprayed some wd40 inside the motors without removing them and now it has worked for some years.

Was just wondering. I am wanting to have the ability to view vu meters on my system. If I have a three head cassette deck, does recording have to actually be engaged to view the meters?

Like your music. Aiwa though, not a fan. JVC are the most robust imo. Tascam's Portastudio 4 trk recorders are something you might want to check out.

Rubber won't be damaged by ipa. If it is, it was going to fail anyway.
