Ricardo and I took 3.5 days off to explore some of the area around Esteli and then to visit his other two children in Boaco. AJ Fernandez Cigars is amazing! They are part of the Free Trade Zone area so they can't sell their cigars in Nicaragua for tax reasons but they are a major producer of hand rolled cigars.
We each received two cigars during the tour but Ricardo got to smoke mine since I don't smoke :)

Mario represents the very best of presenters and ambassadors of tobacco production and cigars. Most people who don’t like or appreciate the art and work that goes into cigars…have not met someone like Mario. Knowledge, foresight and experience, and care make all the difference.

Soy torcedor cubano, antes de tener mi evaluación como torcedor de exportación tuve experiencia en el cultivo del tabaco tapado, luego experiencia con el tabaco destinado a la tripa y capote... me llama mucho la atención todo el proceso y la meticulosidad con que procesan y seleccionan en Nicaragua las hojas de tabacos. Solo discrepo y creo es por mi formación como torcedor cubano, es en el uso de la lona a la hora de enrolar la tripa. Acá en Cuba es a mano y penado el uso de la lona a la hora de torcer los puros de tripa larga destinados a la exportación...

Fantastic video, fantastic cigars From humble beginnings, to cigar magnate! Any cigar AJ makes is top notch.!! I like the tip about the cello! I keep my stash in a Whynter coolador, but put my "on deck" sticks in a wooden humidor, naked.

Do you have too reserve before or you just go there and pay for the tour , how its work ? I go to esteli the 18 december and i want to do this can you give me advise ? :)

We just showed up but I think it is best to reserve a time.

Very (very) few brands of cigars possess the consistency, quality and construction of AJF cigars. For someone who enjoys cigars, it is because of reasons beyond the flavor. It is just as much for the entire experience. When a cigar burns and tastes at a consistent pace…you can relax more and enjoy it more. The skill at every level of the operation is what becomes apparent to the experienced cigar smoker. AJF makes excellent cigars.
