Interesting seeing AJ and Parnelli in roadsters racing for the lead in 1964 and then AJ and Johncock racing for the win in 1977 in all American (chassis and engine) cars. Both events were the ends of eras.

Best driver ever , in any type of car

I read you loud and clear. I'm a big fan of the "Championship Trail" years of American open wheel racing, but you've also managed to help document what happened to dirt track racing following USAC's abandonement of power slidin' as part of it's major championship point system. It's the major reason why to this day most Indy Car drivers come from abroad these days instead of from the sport's then traditional incubators of talent: midget and sprint car racing on dirt. Great Channel Sir!

AJ Foyt - only driver to win the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24hr endurance in the same year. Doubtful that will ever be replicated.

@conductorinblack You're right about that! It lost it's valuable core when they cut the Dirt Cars from the schedule.

@conductorinblack First of all, I LIKE George Jones. But this music-atlantis (old version), peace pipe, atlantis (new version)- stayed in my head for three years until I found a way to put these videos together and post on the 'tube'. I wanted to bring some life into it, the way my generation could see it. Hard to say 'why' it ended up in a Foyt tribute. I am waiting for the right time to put 'who's gonna fill their shoes' into a video concept, just don't know when.

Cool collection of some of Super Tex's greatest hits, but...I'm a little confused by your choice of music. I would have thought that one of America's greatest racers for all time would have been accompanied by, well, music made in America instead of what you've chosen, which is by the English rock instrumental group The Shadows. I don't know if A.J. was or is a fan of George Jones, because whenever I think of him, Mr. Jones' song "Ragged But I'm Right" always comes to mind.

@the88er1 Yes, and it never took. Several tried it , maybe i think to try to save the dirt portion of the National title . By this time a well rounded team needed an offset rearengined car for the ovals, a centered rearengined car for the road courses and a Dirt car for the dirt ovals if they wanted to win the National title. A few took a chance on seeing if they could make a rear engine car even work on dirt and yet nobody could beat the upright frontengine race car design. Thats my best guess
