AJ Styles was the backbone of TNA Wrestling. Without him in the early days, Total Nonstop Action may not have been as popular as it was. AJ Styles was the one constant in the company, and you knew if he was on the card you would get a phenomenal match! When his contract expired at the end of 2013, it was time to renegotiate. All he wanted to stay in the company was the same amount of money he was getting paid. TNA Management couldn't afford that AJ Styles left the company. However, AJ Styles, working on a handshake deal, would work until the January 9th, 2014 episode of Impact Wrestling. At this time, AJ Styles was TNA World Champion, however, Magnus was also TNA World Champion by winning a tournament. On this episode, the 2 champions go head to head to crown one Undisputed TNA World Champion. AJ Styles and Dixie Carter agreed that that match would be a NO Disqualification Match. AJ knew that Dixie and her group “Dixieland” would try to cost AJ the belt and get him out of the company. Dixie Carter also knew that AJ had friends in the company, so she set up a bunch of backstage attacks and different matches to get rid of all of AJ’S friends before the main event. This would be AJ Styles final match in TNA Wrestling! Plus, there are 2 steel cage matches, The Bromans vs Eric Young & Joseph Park and more!

AJ leaving TNA was basically what killed them being the number 2. They are still struggling to come back now, although they are slowly getting their momentum back now that they’ve come back as TNA.

@@spookyspacekuck7885- Him being fired has pretty much removed all the progress that TNA made in the past few months, and put the company back on a worse position at the wrong time. Such a shame.

@aznick-san7954 7 месяцев назад
@@PLUX4i wouldnt say it removed all of their progress but they are in a weird spot similar to the days this ep covers. I can only hope they retain the progression though. Makes no sense to fire him unless something really major happened that we dont know about

@@aznick-san7954 It came out that a part of the reason why Scott was fired was that he asked for a bigger budget to work with to produce higher quality content ± Anthem wanted a more hands-on control of the product. Doesn't really sound like a good reason for firing him is out there imo.

I've not watched the product in years but the moment I first saw Bobby Roode's entrance in WWE, I was like "The fact they didn't strap rockets to this sumbitch is insane. This is gravitas I've not felt in a long time." That fucking song is impeccable.
@JacksonLane02
@JacksonLane02 7 месяцев назад
Nxt Roode might the closest we get to Bobby Roode being close to a star in WWE. Which granted the reasons he hasn't been a star yet is A. The dude whom we should probably not name due to recent events that was running creative before HHH took over wasn't a fan of wrestlers who were made stars somewhere else besides WWE outside of a few exceptions And B. Roode is out with an injury and isn't even known if he's gonna wrestle again although last I checked the recovery for his injury is done by like this time next year Had HHH took control of WWE creative before Roode got called up I truely feel like Roode would've been a star

The Hogan-TNA era sounds like it was absolutely miserable for James and Jawny (not sure about Tony's relation to TNA), as OG TNA-ites, to watch and have to rewatch but as a listener of the podcast I keep wanting them to go back to the era as much as possible. It has pretty much everything from Hogan Impressions to mind numbingly bad matches, storylines and booking decisions to bamboozle the trio with. I love the deadlock boys and episodes of genuinely good TV are entertaining enough on their own but there's just a special *je ne sais quoi* when they review episodes of the worst shit ever and you can practically hear their brains sizzling in real time.

Imagine traveling back to 05-06 and telling a TNA fan that in less than a decade, AJ would be leaving because of a paycut, and the main character of Impact would be Dixie fucking Carter.
@AgeOfSynn

AJ leaving is without exaggeration one of the most important things that ever happened in wrestling due to how much it lead to. If he never went to NJPW he never would have joined Bullet Club, Kenny wouldn't have turned on him and became leader himself, Okada vs Omega might not have happened, AEW doesn't happen, and Val Venis might have ended up back in Impact... GET OUT OF OUR COMPANY!

Joseph Parks should've been a Wrestlecrap induction but for some reason it worked above and beyond. Did it go too long? yes but was it entertaining? also yes. You could also say the same thing about EC3 in TNA. He stood out in a time where TNA was on the verge of complete collapse (2015 to 2017). But when WWE got the EC3 character, it went nowhere fast. Let's see how he does in NWA.

TNA/Impact having a dude break his neck wrestling for them, lying to him, and running it back after also asking him to lie for their sake is crazy TNA/Impact still being around in debatably similar standing after all this time is even crazier. Only in wrestling, brudda.

This was when I dipped out of TNA. It had been some rough watching for a while leading up to it. Then with AJ gone was just like fuck it. Remember my friend at the time getting really back into TNA at this time, so I would get updates that were just like WTF. Best one by far was "....and they show James Storm pushing Mickie James in front of a train". Just hearing that without seeing the clip was wild.

Hogan leaving didn’t help TNA. I never understood the smarks that wanted him out. Many of them just cheered him on in his WWE return. The early booking with Hogan and the poor booking of TNA originals was the problem. When Hogan existed as an authority/attraction and add credibility to the brand while working with the originals was good. Not prioritizing paying the people who built the company was a near fatal blow to TNA, my favorite brand at the time.

The company never should have lasted at all. The same can be said for AEW. The owner of each company just has money to waste and can't think of a better way to do so. At least Ted Turner cared enough to try.
