@@bkay8254 That's what I am trying to tell you have an apple to apple Comparison, there are other vehicles too like the Land Rover Defender, Cherokee ,ford raptor,Toyata etc. So comparing a Rubicon with a Gypsy or jimny is insane. Can you get any of these under 10lc in India so please have a logical comparison. They are the best in their category buy nothing can beat a Gypsy in its segment which has ruled on the Indian roads since last 3decades now.

@@drukrealityandjourney8063 Don't wanna offend you but, The weight displacement/distribution of a car is responsible for cornering stabality and braking and in no way is the major factor in the car's uphill momentum. The actual factors in this case are the tyres "the wider the better" and drivers ability to keep a steady momentum to stop the tires from spinning or stoping unexpectedly. Like what keeps happening with the thar in the beginning.

This is hard ice, not soft sand. Reducing tyre pressure would not help-- probably make things worse. Snow chains or studded tyres are the only two options on this kind of surface.

@@subratabn well in Alps we were specifically advised to use snow chains after reducing the tyre pressure :)

@@pulkitsingh4580 That would be the right thing to do in the Alps because the snow there would be soft and the wheels would tend to dig in at places and lose traction at places where the snow got packed in by vehicles passing over it. But here (Manali) you can see that there is black ice on the road and the temperature is not low enough to prevent the ice from starting to melt when cars pass over it (due to the weight of the cars, a phenomenon called 'regelation'). Therefore, hard black ice with thin layer of water on it is one of the most slippery surfaces known to man 😀

The key here is traction-- not power, not torque, not 2WD/4WD. On this kind of slippery surface you need snow chains. Even a 2WD with snow chains can negotiate this kind of terrain. The locals there know this (they should!) but still doing all this, for tamasha.
