Twenty Paphonies hey I don’t remember what video but I saw you comment on another video also. I know it was you because it’s the same profile picture and the same name! That’s so cool so I just wanted to say hi! I do think it was another ajr video but who knows!
"You haven't come that far, you can find a real job" I cannot begin to imagine how painful it must have been for someone to say that, even if the circumstance is them drunk and begging you to relax and come have fun
I have a cousin who's busy doing his school works and I knew that he's suffering from depression that's why asked him to hang out with me sometimes. We've been riding our bikes going to places we've never been.. I've been seeing him smiling and that's enough for me.
For those who have never seen AJR live, when they tour, Jack will substitute “I’m doing promo tryna blow up in Chicago” with the city you’re seeing them in.
If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, TAKE THE CHANCE. You won't regret it. They put on an incredible show, and they always leave it all on the stage. After you've been to an AJR concert, you'll never look at music the same way again.
here are the lyrics in case you want them: Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I can't complain, no, I won't be mourning 'Cause I skipped on prom For Elvis Duran in the morning All of my life I have been starving Not for a dinner with friends, more of a starving artist Yep yep I'm gonna miss this someday Yep yep I missed another Friday And all my friends say Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Last album's sales could have been higher Maybe that's why I haven't seen friends in awhile They're at a bar down in the Bahamas While I'm doing promo, tryna blow up in Chicago Yep yep I'm gonna miss it someday Yep yep I missed another Friday And all my friends say Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out 'Cause you're missing a lot You haven't gone that far You can find a real job (find a real job) And come hang out We can save you a shot But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Should I go for more clicks this year? Or should I follow the click in my ear? Should I go for more clicks this year? Or should I follow the click in my ear? Should I go for more clicks this year? Or should I follow the click in my ear? Should I go for more clicks this year? Or should I follow the click in my ear? Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like (forgot what you like) And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out 'Cause you're missing a lot You haven't gone that far You can find a real job (find a real job) And come hang out We can save you a shot But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I'll be there next time You're welcome:)
Can I just say that AJR is so underrated. They are such a genuinely good band. Their songs are real not fake like a lot of popular artists today. They bring me true joy and I hope that they start getting credit for their amazing skills!
This is hitting me like a truck. I'm missing out on so much I feel. The song makes me recognize that and I'm working towards going out more. I'm only 20 but I want to remember something meaningful.
Yeah- the song did the same to me 🥲 Made me realize how much time I was missing out on with my friends. Granted, they aren't telling me not to do what I'm passionate about and to "get a real job" instead, but I do still miss spending time with them.
I'm not an aspiring artist, but I'm chasing a dream that demands much of my time too. I strongly identify with the lines "I'll be there next time" and "You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like."I know becoming an entrepreneur isn't easy, but its what I want to do. I'm lucky to have both people who believe in me, and the memory of when I was a failure to drive me forward.
The CrayCray Girl How the hell is that "mean"? It's called "HUMOR" bcuz Ryan wears a lot of Hawaiian shirts. Even when I went to the Summer In The City tour, he had on a Hawaiian shirt. So uhm... Yeah. Not rude. True.
1grade in elementary school: miss childhood 1grade in middle shcool: miss 6grade 1grade in high shcool:miss memory after all these moment : "I miss my friends"
due to my strict upbringing, I had a lot of my teen life torn away from me. I never had prom, never got past the first date, and said "I'll be there next time" till there was nothing left. I got a job and now... I lost a lot of people. This song reminded me what happened. I wish that on no one. Live a little.
well not "painfully" underrated, their song "Weak" got a LOT of views and they have a have a total of 100 Million views so they're a bit underrated but not "painfully" underrated
1-908-1295E in my opinion they are extremely underrated, if you compare their view count to some other artists’ songs whose views are in the millions. They are just as good if not better than some other songs that get way more recognition. But I can see what you’re saying because weak did get a good amount of views. I’m just saying most of their stuff is highly underrated.
I was born the year they released their first 2 albums (born and bread + Venture search em up) and I love their music and I'm absolutely obsessed with them
This whole song speaks to me on a personal level. Especially "you haven't gone that far you can get a real job" and "I'll be there next time". I've been considering becoming a freelance artist but I haven't told any of my family or friends because I know they wont support my choice. And I just know If I somehow manage to pull through and become one, I'll be swamped trying to earn enough. I see the appeal of just going for a more 'normal' job. Making your passion your profession is a nice dream that I don't think I'll be lucky enough to take up. Won't stop me from loving this song though haha
I REALLY like this song because it represents how important hard work is... but also how friends and family are more important since they impact your life. This is a beautiful message and I love how your videos discuss problems that many people suffer from as opposed to something random.
PlatformerKing Well, actually: Overture had a bunch of songs compiled into one and Come Hang Out was one of them. The original comment probably meant that they first checked out Soul’s trailer then Overture and then Come Hang Out.
Seems like most people here feel the "real job" line the one that hits the hardest, but for me it's the constant repeat of "I'll be there next time". When you are an artist or just self-employed in some way, you'll often find yourself working non-stop for your own goals and being too stressed about your success slipping out of your hands to just go hang out with your friends, so you keep saying "I can't do that today, but I'll be there next time" - until there is no next time. Even if you do your best to stay connected, stuff happens, your friends drift apart from each other, some move away or have kids they need to take care of, and all of a sudden you realise how much you missed out on, but it's too late. That part of your life is gone now. At least to me, this song is not at all about social pressure, but about the struggle within you. You want to see your friends, but it might cost you your dreams. There is no right or wrong in that situation, but you have to let one of these things go, and it will hurt either way.
I agree with your interpretation. When I first heard this song I was chasing after a college degree while in highschool. All my friends were in a public HS telling me to transfer back (same city, I was in charter HS) so that we could have that high school experience (clubs, parties, etc.) together. I wanted to because I didn't want to miss out on what could have been an incredible 4 years, but I didn't because I wanted to get ahead on college and get my degree. It was very frustrating, and I often questioned whether it was worth it because I was alone working myself thin.
That's SO TRUE. Because when you lose touch of your friends you drift apart, bit by bit when your friends are asking you to come hang out but you still decline and say "next time"
This hits so hard especially right now for IATSE crew. I feel this 100%, having to work again all weekend. If you're reading this, show appreciation to music and film and television CREWs. We're not on screen, but we show up before talent and we work long after talent has left. You never see our faces, but you see our souls as we pour everything we have into making the content you love. We give up our families, friends, sleep, and physical and mental well being to be the best we can be for our art.
AJR is the trio where it’s music can get anyone to listen to them. No matter there taste in music or where they came from. That’s what’s amazing about them
not once in my life have i had a friend ask me to hang out because they genuinely liked my company. its usually out of pity or because they are just bored... but on the bright side, it gives me a lot more time to listen to music like this
I've listened to them since like 4 years old and quality has only come out of this. When I heard them, I knew they would be my favorite band. I went to the concert it was FIRE.
This is what I can tell from the lyrics: he is pursuing his dream to be an artist and is struggling to succeed. He spends a lot of time on work and misses out on hanging out with friends as a result. His friends try to get him to give up on being an artist and "find a real job". They end it with "I'll be there next time" showing that he ignores them and continues doing what he loves, even if that means he has to sacrifice time with his friends. I initially thought "the click in my ear" was the clock ticking, reminding him that he has limited time in this world and he should just enjoy life but according to genius, it was the metronome clicking, so he was in a dilemma whether to make music he knows will get more clicks or to make music that is true to him(ties in with the part where he says "last album's sales could have been higher) Edit: if you have other interpretations, let me know!
You hit everything on the head except for one thing let me explain , the line Should i go for more clicks This year is the equivalent of a click on the Internet like a RU-vid Video and the line or follow the click in my ear in this line i believe it is spelt clique, but it refers to his friends telling him to hang out ,this would be come apparent considering the pronunciation of the words click and clique are similar. Just my take.
airsoft community321 actually thr click in his ear is a reference to the sound of a metronome. It represents his desire to write songs the way he wants to and conduct his life the way he wants to (March to my own drum, follow the click in my ear, same meaning) but hes pressured to reach fir the success of the internet clicks. He said some of this in an interview.
Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time I can't complain, no, I won't be mourning 'Cause I skipped on prom For Elvis Duran in the morning All of my life I have been starving Not for a dinner with friends, more of a starving artist Yep yep I'm gonna miss this someday Yep yep I missed another Friday And all my friends say Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Last album's sales could have been higher Maybe that's why I haven't seen friends in awhile They're at a bar down in the Bahamas While I'm doing promo, tryna blow up in Chicago Yep yep I'm gonna miss it someday Yep yep I missed another Friday And all my friends say Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out Cause you're missing a lot You haven't gone that far You can find a real job (find a real job) And come hang out We can save you a shot But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Should I go for more clicks this year? Or should I follow the click in my ear? Come hang out 'Cause you're outta your mind You're working so damn hard You forgot what you like (forgot what you like) And come hang out Don't you leave us behind But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time Come hang out Cause you're missing a lot You haven't gone that far You can find a real job (find a real job) And come hang out We can save you a shot But I'll be there next time I'll be there next time
0:27 Ryan and Adam play instruments, Jack plays with confetti 0:41 No one saved Ryan a seat at the table so he’s forced to awkwardly bounce in the corner. 1:13 The boys casually forget about gravity. 1:35 Jack’s voice doesn’t follow the rules of sound through liquids. 2:06 You though he was gonna spill it, didn’t you? 2:22 AJR’s friends practice for Bang! 3:10 Jack’s houseguests forget he exists 3:16 Jack has an existential crisis while a banana walks behind him 3:40 Ryan discovers that he will be cleaning up the mess
This song still hits a note. Worked so much I almost lost my wife and kids and definitely lost myself. This gave me what I need to leave my old job. Thank you guys
in that part that says "you haven't gone that far you can find a real job" i was like flipping out becuase they HAVE gone REALLY far and to them, this is a real a job!
Mark De Leon don't let them, people want surpress any kind of creativity depending on where you are, even if they say that they encourage it. Let you be you
Me revisiting this 3 years later: Wow AJR has been such a great band even since the start (2013-UNKNOWN ERROR) I love all your songs keep up the great work😁
I live in Houston. February 18th is my birthday. You guys will be in Houston on that day. I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN! I am actually crying because I love y'all so much, but congrats on everything and I know that there is more greatness in the future
im literally gonna cry. i love this band so much. it is so rewarding to have watched them grow from living room to the click, then to neotheater and now theyre coming out with new music soon. im SO proud
This is the song that I discovered the three of them are related and finally know what the band name means. Adam, Jack, Ryan. My mind is blown. (This is how slow and stupid I can be)
3:00 By far my favorite line because it can be flipped on both sides depending on the meaning of "Click". Clicks as in internet views, the click track OR cliques as in a group of friends. All three can be used interchangeably for "This year" and "In my ear". That's some really clever wordplay.
Being someone who wants to be an artist, that song hit me 2 years ago, when I listened to it for the first time. But now, on pandemy, the "You're missing a lot" and the repetition of "I'll be there next time" hits me way harder.
Are we just going to collectively pretend we didn’t see Ryan doing the phuckin’ air sound-mix-pad-thingie at 1:13?? Because I’m not, it’s adorable and appreciated.
I really like this song because it shows the 2 sides of this coin in these types of situations. Both the AJR side of wanting to dedicate themselves to music and working hard everyday, sacrificing other things to get there, and so the people outside that want them to party and forget about it can be hurtful and mean, but on the other side the outsiders, people sometimes try so hard and work so hard that they forget how to live and end up always alone separated from the world and there are a lot of things to live and to experience with friends that you shouldn't miss on while you work like a slave, even if it's your dream you need to find a balance, or you will regret of leaving all of those things behind even if you find success on your dream
Estoy buscando sus canciones y estoy amando todas las que he encontrado... solo me arrepiento de no haberlos descubierto antes. Amo sus letras! Por lo general dan el punto justo xD
They are too underrated. They are amazing performers, songwriters, musicians, and people, not to mention completely original and creative. As someone who has accompanied them for some time and actually seen them live, it is so clear how much they love what they do and how dedicated and talented they are. My whole family loves them and their songs bring us together. Their music, while being fun and energetic, tackles important and relatable issues about growing up and actually living in the real world.
To me this song is NOT about your friends and family not respecting your passion but instead about focusing so much on your work and responsibilities that you forget to have fun and maintain your relationships .
It seems to be a bit of both, most of the lyrcs talk about pursuing your passion and having to sacrifice your family and friends for it but part of it also shows the part where the friends want them back so badly they say "you haven't gone that far you can find a real job"
I really want to go to there consort but my dad said I had to work... I am 12 I did some yard maintenance and me and my sister are going on MAY 17 WE ARE SO HAPPY AND EXCITED I LOVE AJR
That part of the chorus hurts me and I'm not even a musician... "Come hang out 'Cause you're missing a lot You haven't gone that far You can find a real job" Find a real job? Really? I mean I get that becoming a musician is very hard. But you can't just dump that on a friend because they're not there for every event in your life. I feel like these are the kinds of people that come back and claim to be best friends with celebs after they finally make it big.
Yeah Ive been the AJR of my friend group. By which I mean Im the only one not doing the "real job" thing. But now I run my own business and ive shipped thousands of 3d prints around the world. Still excited for my passions of making video games and music though. "All of my life I have been starving....not for a dinner with friends more of a starving artist."
@Star Ink That's not really what I was referring to. Was more talking about people who cling to stars after their famous when they weren't there when they were working hard to get where they are. I feel like you're referring to self isolation or taking time to yourself. Both of which are different and completely understandable. Everyone needs time to themselves sometimes.
I feel it’s more them drifting apart since he’s to engrossed in his work, they want him to relax and have fun. The way I see the end as him being alone since he didn’t spend enough time with them. I’m not saying that ass people isn’t out there just this is the way I interpret it.
That's not what I take away from this? I think you can attribute some selfishness to their friends in the context of these lyrics, but it's the selfishness of people who miss hanging out with friends who are busy as hell and... can't. I think the lyrics are a combination of regret on both ends: from the friends who miss the brothers, and from AJR who miss just being able to hang out because they're busy doing promos on some Chicago radio station while their friends are off having a fun vacation.
By far one of the best bands that I've heard in a long time. I really enjoy your music. You help me to focus on something else when my OCD is taking over... Thank you guys! You are so lyrically and muically talented! Much love from Austria. I hope you come soon one day
when this song just came out it always made me cry. Not because I ever skipped parties, but because I was barely ever invited to parties but I always loved going to parties and hanging out with people.
Something about the line “or should I follow the click in my ear” always gives me shivers especially with the metronome. And the fact that it’s in 3/4 time just makes it so much more chilling in the best way
Gotta say, AJR definitely has a message, like it or not, it's on point. I appreciate the "Beatles" aspect of their music. For me growing up with all sorts of music, it's great to hear a band that isn't afraid to be un PC. And still does it with dignity. High five to you AJR
