I’m so glad OKO has an overture, as much as I loved Neotheater there’s just nothing quite like hearing all their songs carefully crafted into one single masterpiece
The musical genius that goes into every Overture is insane. I wonder if when they're brainstorming song ideas for an album, they create them in a way so they go well together as an Overture. Or do they just hope that when you throw them all in a blender that something as magical as this pops out.
@@-PIXELATED- nah, same here. so long as you gave it a fair chance, you're fine. i like pitchfork kids, but that's about it. you'd be more of a fake fan if you never tried, but your personal vibe is yours alone
That hit at 0:30 is incredible. That kind of hit isn't heard often in "popular" music... I wasn't expecting it the first time I heard the song and my face basically melted off. This song is an absolute masterpiece.
Listening to the Overture for the first time without hearing most of the other songs yet is just a completely different, one of a kind experience I wouldn’t want to ever trade.
This song genuinely makes me want to dance dramatically and scream my heart out singing the lyrics, but all the lyrics aren’t very coherent (not a bad thing at all, it makes it so much better), so I’m just shouting in my head and aggressively head-bopping and foot-tapping while drawing. AJR is the best band I have ever listened to. No joke. Your songs make me feel things that I have never felt, and yet they bring such a familiar joy.
what about radiohead? what about pink floyd? what about boris? what about godspeed you! black emperor? what about do make say think? what about fishmans? what about autechre? what about boards of canada? what about the beatles? what about king crimson? what about kraftwerk? what about sigur ros? what about slint? what about talking heads? what about the war on drugs? I can name even more artists that can beat ajr by a lightyear. as another person said, I hope you're not serious
I actually could cry to this. At the very end where it's a line from each song about. The one from three o clock things saying "No going back" actually hits me for some reason. I just picture Jack turning away from the album cover of Ok Orchestra and I just flash through all of their albums. My favorite AJR song of all time
"I can't be 18 my whole life!" hit me hard cause I literally turned 18 yesterday and my brain fired off with "this wont last forever kid, enjoy it" God i'm so excited to listen to all these songs
When he sings: And I can’t be eighteen my whole life But I’m too fucking young To feel so fucking old But I’ll try and I’ll try and I’ll try But I’m not dead yet So I guess I’ll be alright IT HIT ME SO FUCKING HARD
oh man and the imagery of how everything is sad and bleak and then the acceptance that you will still live through it brings everything color and meaning, ITS JUST SO GOOD
@@kayaadreger Well, they had something similar with the intro of Click's Overture that wasn't in any other song. But yeah, I was waiting for that part the whole album. :(
I don’t understand how people don’t like them. I mean come on! This is a work of art and no one could ever do what they do. They’re just so unique and different. I love these guys so much!
It’s rare that you see an overture outperform some of the songs it’s based on. This blows every other overture out of the water and is easily one of the best songs in the album. Stellar work
Songs in this video, in order (when first played) Bang! 0:46 Way Less Sad: 0:47 Christmas In June: 0:51 World's smallest violin: 0:56 The Trick: 1:00 Joe: 1:23 Humpty Dumpty: 1:39 Ordinary-ish people: 1:42 Adventure is out there: 2:00 My play: 2:02 Bummerland: 2:32 3 O'Clock Things: 4:15 No, i am not counting when each song got replayed, then this comment would be 10x as long.
As an orchestra kid, I just want to say that I LOVE this album and it makes me want to pull out my violin and make music with my siblings. The overture blows my mind and I deeply appreciate all the sounds that AJR creates.
i'm reading this wonderful comments and i got it that "I can't be 18 my whole life" can speak loud for some, but for me that is 17 the "I'm too fucking young to feel so fucking old" just talks to my whole anxiety to grow up in such a fundamental level, man.
I love the section that goes from World's smallest violin to The Trick. If that was one song I would listen to it for hours. But still love this whole song and album :) 👍
One of Adam’s only lines in the whole album: “dRuM sEt” Edit: Please actually read the first two words before commenting, I do know that he sings vocals in other songs which is why I said ‘One of’.
@@nathanhollow0 Maybe but I don’t think so, sometimes certain songs just suit certain peoples voices. I remember them saying in the livestream that they planned on Jack singing Socks/Adventure is out there but it just suited Ryan’s voice better. I do hope Adam has his own solo song in the future but only when it suits him.
My absolute favorite thing about this video is how pained Jack looks the whole time. Like he's not just singing the songs, he's feeling them the whole entire time. You can feel the origins of all the songs colliding, and it's the relatable energy that's so hard to put into words, which is why when they all come together at the end, it's ugly cry-worthy powerful. At the end especially. I love whenever they are playing they're really feeling the music and how you can tell they're concentrating so hard. Either that or they're pretending it isn't effortless for an effect (which is likely since they're so talented)
For anyone curious, this is the amount of times each song has played: Bang!: 6 Way Less Sad: 5 Bummerland: 1 My Play: 2 3 O'Clock Things: 1 Christmas in June: 5 World's Smallest Violin: 3 The Trick: 4 Joe: 1 Humpty Dumpty: 6 Ordinaryish People: 5 Adventure Is Out There: 3 Ok Overture: 3
I'm just gonna appreciate the fact that AJR is one of the only modern artists that made an overture into a modern thing by experimenting and seeing how each one was better than the next
Alright guys, we're gonna do this the original way. Sign my petition to make AJR a genre of music. Edit: Bro at this point they should goddamn well be a genre I didn't think there'd be so much culture in one comment section
It's definitely a shame, because "I'm Ready" was an absolutely massive hit, but they've honestly only gotten better with each album and yet nothing has gained the same traction since.
I'm watching this after listening to the whole album and I'm honestly overwhelmed by the beauty and intricacy of this with the context of all the songs in this piece. AJR is in their own tier of music, it's insane.
No one: Everyone after watching this: +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist +new song to playlist

@@annabethchase4582 They said some of the overture's tracks is actually unreleased tracks as well so it may also be from a scrapped song which is interesting.
I litterally stayed up till 12 just to listen to this I’m so excited. Update: ok this is making me so excited for the rest of the album Update 2: this is like the click overture on steroids
why is it that AJR has less than 2 mill subs but they only release bangers? ive listened to every single AJR song and not even one of them is bad! How???
Nope i disagree ajr does have good music but the lyrics for so many people have the most weird symbolism and meanings behind their lyrics of songs which makes people repel from their songs like from neotheater the song called as DONT throw out my legos. The song itself is so good but the meaning behind is so unrelated and unrealistic
@@beo919 maybe it's not for everyone, but i loved the lyrics for that song. it hits home for me, somehow; the whole schtick about not wanting to grow up, and then eventually moving out, then going back and missing our childhood. either way, just my two cents.
for some reason the small sigh at 4:01 really gets me, i mean it’s like there’s more emotion and feeling packed into that one breath than the entire album somehow
when he sings "and I can't be eighteen my whole life..." oh my god... i'm 19 and spent my entire eighteenth year in a pandemic... i won't ever get to be eighteen again. that line really hits hard
Jacks vocals in all seriousness are probably the best I’ve ever heard in in my life. He can sing a song with no background music or anything and it still sounds amazing. I would even say he’s in the top 1000 best voices in the world.
The song itself is so epic, it first plays out like a tutorial on the rhythm, the paces to patterns of synths with vocals and clips of distorted or effected voice with enjoyable sounds. I still don’t understand why people hate AJR so much. They are so creative and try fresh ideas
As someone who turned 19 TODAY, the line “I can’t be 18 my whole life” hits way different. I love this entire album already, the best birthday gift I’ve ever got!
What I did with this album and the Click is listen to it first, like in the order of the album, as an introduction to hear the different sounds and get the vibes of the album as a whole. Then when I finished the album I listened to it again as an outro, containing all of the sounds and choruses of the songs I just listened to. It really starts finishes out the album with style, the overture is always epic
Ok I feel like I’m the only one crying right because AJR just the most beautiful album ever created and it started with this amazing song tying everything together. Thx you guys, you have saved my sanity for a little while longer. . . . . I did my solo to Turning Out last year and it was so much fun introducing you to my dance studio.
@@kelseewuebben6869 I haven’t personally posted the dance anywhere but I have a few pictures on my Instagram if you want to look, @sprout803. I didn’t really have a season last with covid coming up right once competition season started so I don’t have any good clips on stage, only at my studio my I learned it.
I love the fact that a lot of AJR's songs are about Adulthood yet they can be relatable to pretty much anyone, and wait a minute did Adam actually sing
@@metromakeitboomfrfr I’m pretty sure Adam sang a bit in their first album and Ryan did also get turning out pt.2 in neotheature (or however you spell that) but it does suck that they don’t really sing a lot in the songs :/
Yeah it is like the Jonas Brothers. Nick and Joe have all the attention. But Kevin doesn’t really get any. If there is a curse the eldest is the least famous of a band of 3. But the middle child and the youngest are so famous. Also just realized Joe Jonas missy be who Ryan is talking about it Joe. Lol
