The ironic thing for me is how these games are all referred to as souls-likes when souls games are just action RPGs with an emphasis on boss battles and exploration... its not like its anything new. Most of these new upcoming "souls-likes" don't even resemble souls gameplay... they all seem closer to Ninja Gaiden.
Souls are just rogue lite action rpg games sure but that's also something that hasn't been done in the way they've done it either so ther3fore its unique to their creation

Phantom Blade 0 confirmed to not be souls like. Creator said it’s more in line with a DMC game. He says the only similarity to a souls like game (not including Elden ring) would be the maps. We’ll see
You know, I don’t even think the animation of DA: The Veilguard was the problem, because Dragon Age has never looked that realistic. No, I think it was the tone of the trailer. It felt like they were trying to advertise a devil-may-care hero shooter type of game, not a semi-dark western fantasy RPG. It just did not feel like a world with any stakes, even though Thedas is facing actual destruction.
The Summer Game Fest didn't really wow me. Nothing new caught my interest. The XBox Showcase, however... that was something. I stayed up late just to watch it cause it was like on at 3am in Australia and I'm so glad I did. So many good games that caught my eye and perhaps brought a tear to it too. Doom: The Dark Ages, State of Decay 3, South of Midnight, Perfect Dark, Mixtape, Atomfall, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 still gave me hope, and then of course, Gears of War: E-Day. I felt like I de-aged 20 years to when I first played Gears of War and it was like seeing an old friend again. I couldn't be happier to see Marcus and Dom back. As for Ubisoft... I don't care for them anymore, sooooooo... outside of that, tons of other games I was actually interested in. Nobody Wants to Die, Detective Dotson, Hell of an Office, The Operator, The Precinct, Motor Doom, 10 Dead Doves, Pneumata, Slitterhead, Still Wakes the Deep, Fear the Spotlight, a pair of Nightdive remasters that are absolutely on my list, Killing Time: Resurrected and The Thing. Fuck the hell yes! Awesome stuff.
Phantom Blade Zero isn't a soulslike, it is an ARPG with fast paced combat closer to something like Ninja Gaiden or DMC, I guess Alex just doesn't do any research for these anymore. The art style is souls though because the art director actually worked at fromsoft.
Such a jarring contrast to the Dragon Age Origins Sacred Ashes trailer, which still has better graphics than the Veilguard trailer despite being 15 years old.

Thank you guys for covering all these shows. I never watch these showcase events because if its good I'll hear about it or see it in my youtube feed. I haven't played HellDivers 2 but I played the first one and liked it but I know that game slams because I've seen it recommended a bunch by different peeps. Keep up the good work and if you ever need a 4th for content creation hit me up I'm an long time fan of the AJS and I've played a ton of good games over the years.

@@rafterman5072 You made me take a look at it. Looked dull to me. Might be more fun in higher levels but looked really repetitive from what was shown. I also just don't vibe with the fantasy/cyberpunk style they went for with Tevinter. I really hope it is not just dark and stormy all throughout the game when we are in Tevinter. The animations for the NPC's also looked really janky and unpolished. The redesigns for Varric and Harding are also just bad in my eyes. They don't look like the same bleeding characters at all. The production hell this game started with already lowered my expectations and these trailers sure don't raise them.
@MrJambola123 did you even watch sonys state of play. If this was bad to you I couldn't even imagine what you thought of Sony's state of play. Assassins Creed are good games. And the last Star Wars game I didn't really enjoy, so I'm hoping for something a little different. I will be honest. Valhalla wasn't great, but Syndicate and Black Flag were. How many Call of dutys have their been but people still love it.
Yeah, I see what happened there. I meant AC: Odeyessey. When they release a title every year, it's easy to lose track of the names. And I never said you were wrong a lot of the time it is a reskin. So a lot of the time, they play the same, another reason why I mixed them up. But I'm really into the stealth games left, and since Splinter Cell & Metal Gear are gone, I'm not going to run down 1 of the only games with good stealth mechanics. I mean, growing up with Perfect Dark on N64, yeah I'm interested. The trailer gave me sci-fi Uncharted vibes for some reason, I'm fine with that. Ubisoft resurrecting Prince of Persia; if its a cash scam fuck em' but I LOVED Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Elden Ring DLC is still what I'm waiting for along with the new Dawntrail for FF14!
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero getting a release date was all I needed to see the whole event. Been a dragon ball fan since i was a little kid playing Budokai 1 on the Gamecube.

Even if id Software did Mick Gordon dirty, I'm tired of hearing about him. Doom isn't just about Mick Gordon. Doom has always had rocking music, and Andrew Hulshult did fantastic work for The Ancient Gods DLC in Doom Eternal. I'll admit Mick might have done better work than anyone else did for Doom, but let's appreciate what he's done and enjoy what comes next. Barring a terrible unforeseen catastrophe, I'll be getting The Dark Ages day one (don't pre-order, there's no point to it for the consumer).
Alex “south by Midnight, didn’t look particularly good. Running poorly”. Shows he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s a style choice like the animated Spider-Man movies where it’s called “animating on twos” where a drawing would be held for two frames. It’s not that it’s not running well. That game is beautiful and running exactly how they want.
I thought South of Midnight was super interesting becuase the enviornment looked to be running in 60 FPS but the character the entire time, even in gameplay was at like 20fps. Super unique, and always down for a good Southern tale, something different.
I don't have any attachment to Perfect Dark but when they finally revealed what the main character looked like I went "Oh...they un-beautified her. Ppl gun' be maaaaaaad".
The song of the south wasn't supposed 2 be about blacksmagic voodoo an the main character was supposed 2 be white the team is in Canada so they didn't want 2 do that type of game but all of them got fired orleft sadly
That Dragon Age cinematic looks like it was made by Tumblr fan girls of Dragon Age who crush on the characters in Inquisition rather than realizing why the original was actually good.
I never thought I'd see angry jo praising the MS industry consolidation, they brought us nothing new except where we once had three shows form competing publishers we now have one.
I was sorely disappointed that Gears of war wasn't remastering and re-releasing the original trilogy for current consoles and PC. but i feel that by releasing E-day, they would of set the ground work to releasing the Trilogy not soon after for those who want to play the story from beginning to end
I didn't expect Joe to be such a weeb with Assassin's Creed. None of the AC games came advertised in the setting's native language either. "Evolving the formula" is what made AC so divorced from its roots for so long and led to this heavy focus on combat and RPG mechanics. If I can solely play as a assassin, great but that means I'm paying to play half the game which just sucks.
MS should've mediated for Mick Gordon.. they're really not doing anything to win people over except a great deal on the Game Pass *for now*. It's going to be so easy for them to add different subscription tiers with different access levels and ingame rewards tied to them later on though. Of course the lowest tier won't be getting the day 1 edition, it gets what's left of the base game from the games still included.
You guys need a 4th person. The problem with Dragon age is that they used the name itself. The game could be ok if it was a new ip but if you use the old franchise of Dragon Age you want to get back the ppl that played the old games which means you try to cater to what the fans liked about the old ones not try to gather new fans (which do not care about the name at all)
Eh idk about your opinion on the ubisoft show. Got me excited. Outlaws looked great and Shadows I enjoyed watching tho I also had technical difficulties with it. Like you get to choose between two characters and the Samurais combat is different than the last three gameplay wise which was fresh. Also the variety of weapons they could use looked so cool. I cant wait to use a naginata. Also the layout of the castle was interesting. Also excited for Anno pax romana! Love rome stuff. Also your criticism that it couldve been an email is weird. They showed indepth gameplay for two of their biggest games. The xbox showcase didnt have that, just mainly cinematics and trailers. I think more showcases should have gameplay like the ubisoft one. Lets you know what u are buying
They went in-depth on two games to make up for the fact they didn't have anything else to show. And the Xbox showcase actually had gameplay. It just didn't drag on because there was a lot of stuff show, unlike Ubisoft which HAD to stall and extend the time of their showcase.

And those two games r pretty big games. Star wars outlaws and the new ac are big games coming out this year. Truuuu tho that the rest were mostly dlc besides Anno and prince of Persia.
Not to be the guy defending Starfield, but the horror/mystery element made sense because the DLC is about House Va'ruun. They were generally surrounded by mystery and mysticism in the base game.
Starfield did have some horror elements to it so we have to be fair on that they had that side mission that literally had those creatures attack and you had to defend the base and shit, so they had it but they didn’t do much with other in the main game which is fine as the main story is something different. i loved those missions with the creatures attacking the worlds
Why you all making out like the Xbox showcase looked bad. There’s some good looking games. And more to the point, most of them are on game pass day one. That’s more than PS and Nintendo.
Joe Fallout 76 is popular not just because of the damn TV show, but because it's a great game finally. Though the TV has certainly made people more interested to try the game, but they are staying as the games good lol. So sick of reading it's always just the TV show. Cause it's not.
Some nice games in Xbox showcase, but very disappointed there is not a single racing game to look forward to. I keep hoping for something like GTA 5 Stunt series made right with good controls and catching up options for fun racing online.
Developers have attempted to merge GI Joe, and Barbi together in an attempt to manipulate the market and cast a wider net. The problem is there is a reason kids played with these toys separately! Were different! It's not working developers...Reverse course.
After the showcase and Skill Up´s video, I am surprisngly.. curious about SW Outlaws. Biggest disappointment is that there is no cockpit view (at this point) which is not that big of a deal. Still kinda worried about the writing and the main character but let´s see.
Assassin's Creed was pissed off that Ghost of Tsushima made a better Assassin's Creed than they did, while it being only half the content. So the response? It will be to make a worse Ghost of Tsushima with massive amounts of microtransactions.

Fable became Infinitely more interesting simply for having Superhands playing Humphrey (I hope he's in the game) - if you don't know Superhands, he's from the TV show "Peep Show", which is an absolute recommendation for any who hasn't seen it! Definitely in the Top 5 funniest shows of all time!!!
