Good stuff Johnny. Nice to see a company that listens to the end users . I’ve been thinking of getting the Krebs safety without the hold open feature. I just don’t want another opening for junk to get in the rifle, but I see the benefit as well . Thanks

@praktikalnurse504 Год назад
@Zachary Brink Thanks! As for getting junk in the rifle, from my "real world-your environment " tests I have done, I wouldn't worry about junk getting in the rifle. The way the AK is designed, with the loose tolerances, and as many times as I have tripped, fallen in a stream, slipped in the mud, etc 😆😆😆, I have never had a problem with getting anything other than a little dust, sand, dirt, or mud in the receiver. Nothing that pulling the bolt to the rear couldn't clear. I really don't buy into the "dig a hole, and cover it with dirt or mud" tests, because wherever my rifle goes, I go, and vise versa" mentality. If there is dirt or mud being thrown on me, chances are I would be dead.

We will release a version without the BHO (bolt hold open) notch later this year. We just started with the BHO version as that has the largest market demand because of shooting range requirements.

Thanks Johnny ! I am working on upgrading my '74 to go from a back-up competition rifle to going back to a primary competition rifle. Going to an enhanced safety lever ( due to match/range requirements) was the last modification I was wanting to make to it. I will probably be ordering this in a couple of months.

About time someone made these fire selectors. Had to tack a crude metal piece onto my norincos way back when. Any idea if they make a longer one of these for the norinco NHM 91

Personally, I prefer the standard stock selector, an AK was not built to switch from fire to sake every second and between shots. That is an AR15/western military concept.

I agree that constant manipulation of the AK safety lever is probably not needed, but the basic AK safety lever has zero ergonomics as the small distal side tab is basically non-existent. Having a safety lever with an enlarged side tab is an easy initial upgrade to any AK to make it even more enjoyable.

Are they making the "gen2" as a regular production or was it just beta tested for your review? The other modification I would suggest is to black out their logo.

My Zastava ZPAP M70 AK-70's Safety Bar is very hard to pull back the bolt to latch its handle while trying to bring up the bar up. After seeing ur video here, i've noticed that the "AK Master Mount" version has the handle catch notch much further forward than mine. What dat(that) means is dat w the Mstr Mt lever, i don't need to compress dat long powerful recoil spring on the carrier rod, let alone dealing w the hammer spring. Perhaps, i can contact AK MstrMt to make us a better Safety Lever for our M70 w the following features: 1. Catch Notch forward* like this video's 2. Keep the thumb tab where it is w the M70 which as now, also acting as a stop going too far below bottom edge of the receiver. This tab position up front vs. the rear position in the video gives better leverage! 3. Make the thumb tab wider, even longer w dat nice checkering ____________ *Yes, i experimented and Zastava M70 can have the notch forward n still cocks the hammer OK Thx 4 the video and i've just subscribed

Your channel is underrated johnny. Good review. Glad they took feedback from you and who ever else to change the design. Just makes me wonder how much they really tested it before selling them. Seems like that big of an issue wouldn't make it through testing unless they literally only tested it on one gun that happened to work. One thing about it aks are like snowflakes, they all seem to be a little different. Surprised the mak90 didn't make the video lol

@Robbie Dean Much appreciated! 😃👍🦬🦅🪶 I limited the video to 3 rifles because out where I live, 1 minute of video time takes about 1 HOUR to upload. I cannot do live streams out here because the wifi is horrible. 5G hasn't made it out here to "the sticks" yet, so I am stuck with limiting the amount of content time to about 10 minutes or less. Sadly, the MAK-90 wasn't 1 of the first 3 I grabbed from the gun vault. I do have a video coming out SOON about 1 NEW upgrade I have made. 😃👍🦬🦅🪶

Our enhanced safety lever design is also unique in that they also must meet the requirement of being compatible with our proprietary side rail’s mounting hardware. Didn’t anticipate that they would be used on receivers without a safety lever notch etched in the receiver wall.

@@akmastermount3163 The majority of AK's don't have the etch in the receiver, Good to see you fixed the issue though as the 1st design wasn't thought out and not only a safety concern but would also put a gun into a inoperable state with the lever going past the bottom of receiver by not stopping
@bobbyagee3796

That's the same issue with mine. The bottom swinging of the lever and not stopping above the trigger guard.

Personally I think the American urge to have a BHO on a rifle is stupid, and on an AK it's quite impractical (that and BHO Mags.) All I see is a hole for debris ingress. As someone who does not shoot at indoor ranges who demand to show clear, the Krebs safety with NO bolt hold open is my gold standard on all of my AK's. Just my opinion, however.
@praktikalnurse504
@praktikalnurse504 Год назад
@Eeyore Official as they say, "different strokes for different folks". I don't think either is stupid, just what works best for each individual. Given I have been to public ranges (mostly, I just stick to my own unless a friend wants me to go with them, and they are paying for it 😆😆) where they want you to show clear when finished and leaving the range. After serving in the military, I grew accustomed to having the last round bolt hold open feature. As many times as I have had people tell me, "count your rounds as you send them down range" I have asked them, "have you ever been shot at, while returning fire and moving? Trust me, counting my rounds going down range was the LAST thing I had on my mind at that moment. " 😆😆😆

@@praktikalnurse504 In theory it works much better on the AR platform. The bolt locking back until you insert a new mag is SUPER helpful and I love that, but on an AK, that isn't how it works. If you pull out a BHO mag, the bolt sends home, so it doesn't save you any time on a reload, and the bolt-hold open safety is 100% manual which doesn't help with identifying an empty mag. I do see how the bolt locking back on an empty mag could be a good identifier of an empty mag, I just wish it could stay back until a new mag is in.
