Akai AT 580 Tuner with intermittent FM

This AKAI AT-580 had intermittent FM reception. The Stereo decoding would drop in and out before there was no audio at all. The signal meter would still deflect while tuning over stations. The FM tuning meter would not. The problem turned out to be really simple.

please what is the output voltage of the stereo fm pointer? ac or dc current at this output?

Hey mate, only just saw this. Tuner is packed away right now as I've moved since this was filmed. The Tuner however has worked great since the fix was done :)

Hi m8 just a quick question ive had my 580 a couple of days now and cant find a user manual anywhere. but does your signal meter illumination go out when switched to am as mine does? , though i can see the meter displaying a signal level when tuning on am thanks

Hey mate, yes it's normal for the tuning meter to go out as it's not used on AM. I do have the service manual but I need to compress it. If you PM me your email address, I can send it to you. Cheers, Andrew
