Or "Surround Stereo" as Akai called it. 4-Channel sound, from an 8-Track Cartridge. I believe Sansui and CBS trademarked the word Quadraphonic jointly and although record companies licensed the name, not all equipment manufacturers (such as Akai) did. The other term for these type of cartridges was Q8.

I still have one of these units hiding in my attic. One of these days I'm gonna hook it up to my system and fire up a few 8 tracks. 😁

Ive got the reel to reel version of this. Needs servicing to work atm, it will be expensive!

Guess what I have this Akai also I have the quad amplifier from Gradiente Model SQ-1400 since 70´s. My Father buyed tem so many years ago since i was 11 Yo and now I have 56Yo There was one of the best times for me hearing this great Music: Also still having some 8 trck tapes (about 30). Were can i get this demo tape? Thank you

hi you thick tis sound good get hold of a betacam sp deck or a akai 1800ss or adat 8 track i had a bad time with this model i have worked on some with bad power units if unit in uk they can be used a 115 0 115 transfromer tap the motor volt of it why a got the 1800ss decks

I do indeed have a DigiBeta deck and I also have some session tapes of music shows and videos that were done on either Digi or SP. The sound is of course excellent.
