I'm not sure if I've commented this video before. But I've watched it many times and it's the DEFINITIVE Pad Parameters video ever made. Congratulations and thank you.

I think This video is single handily one of the most overlooked aspects to the live !! There’s nothing more uninspiring then finding a dope sample and trying to chop it up and assign it to pads and then mid work flow, all your samples have changed and are affected! I didn’t understand at first and couldn’t figure it out! Coming from the mpc1000 & the maschine mk1 it was def more user friendly. Seeing this def gave me more insight. Thanks for this

Thanks this was the first time I actually understood the difference. To summarise non destructive makes universal changes to every version of the same slice. Pad parameters makes local unique changes to each version of the slice.

So this basically means that in “non destructive” the slice information is stored with your sample and with “pad parameters” the slice information is stored in the program.
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 2 года назад
It's even more annoying than that, because with non-destructive there's a lot of bs going on where one change to the sample, with affect all instances of that sample in use. It is _NOT_ non-destructive. It is more so... just linked and using a single sample. And yeah, it isn't cut in a destructive way, but it's annoying you can't have a non-destructive sample on several pads that you have edited differently. To make matters worse, if you do use Pad Parameters, you still can have linked pads that change at the same time. There's weird stuff going on, requiring you to actually copy the sample 'to a new pad'.

@@PHeMoX turning off "link slices" in the chop window should fix that particular issue, if you want to use non-destructive slices.

Thank you so much for explaining it this way. It was super easy to follow after watching your other videos ! Just one question. Could you give me an example when you would actually use non destructive slices ? Why do we get the option. Have a good day
@mpchead
@mpchead 5 лет назад
That's a great question, one that I ask myself a lot of times. I think it might be just an old standard way of cutting that they want to keep for compatibility from old mpc's. It's also useful if you are working with the same sound in different pads using simultaneous play for example, in case you want to trim the sound, all the pads get trimmed also.

It's really helpful when using a looong sample (i.e. whole song) that you want to use parts from in different programs. this way you don't have to make copies for parts of the sample. Or if you want to use same slices, but slightly change the chops in different programs. or if you want to adjust slice parameters without affecting all other programs with the same sample. I've stumbled upon this many times :)

The more I try to learn the live, the more I miss my 2500 with jjos xl. Im learning the MPC Live and I think they left out a lot of simple and efficient features from the older models, but somehow managed to keep a lot of complicated annoying ideas from the older ones. Imma keep goin,g but it's been a few weeks and it definitely feels more like a daw to me than an mpc. Hopefully this changes! Thanks for your help though! Appreciated bro.

I found a Touch in a pawn shop (after getting rid of my NI Maschine)I've been trying to learn it since 2019 watching other videos. I could not understand how to assign sliced samples to each pad. Yours was the only video that broke it down. One point though...when you go into Chop then Threshold the Chopped section would appeared then when I looked closely at the video I saw your Threshold was set to 50. That where I was having the issues. My Threshold was set to 1. The video helped, thanks.

Very helpful thanks mate👍🏼 Question please. How do I save a chopped and pad assigned set of samples in my files to call upon later? I.e i chop and assign a kit of samples to 16 pads that I call “Richards favorite kit”, but I wish to call upon that kit at a later time? I’m a fresh as they come and only about 5 hours in to my first Akai MPC. I’ve got the sampling/chopping process down thanks to your vids, but just can’t seem to comprehend how to save the “kit” for another time. Cheers and thanks in advance ✌🏼

If samples cancel each other out you're either in a global mono for the program or the pad or a mute group.

Hello! One question! When I sample I try to have really good chops but I hear some clicking sounds when recording my own stuff with the chopped up samples. The original sample/loop is good but when I sample it and I record my own stuff after I hear some clicks on the melody. Any idea on how to solve that? :)) It is really annoying because it doesn't happen all the time. Some beats are cool but on some of them I hear some clicking. I make all my beats on the MPC Live (stand-alone).
@mpchead

Is it in the middle of the sample or at the end or start of the sample?

@@mpchead during the melody, yes, it is in the middle. But it doesn't happen to all the beats. :))
@akkyo3595
@akkyo3595 3 года назад
Are you hearing the clicks after recording (importing) the samples in your MPC, or are you hearing them after chopping and recording a new pattern with the chops? If it’s the second one, you probably need to try to fine tune the start/end points of your slices, and if that doesn’t work, go into your envelope parameters to add some attack and adjust the release of the slices, until the clicks/pops disappear.

@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 2 года назад
The MPC software really should support for individual pad parameters that are not linked by default. If it's non-destructive stuff, why not have unique pad parameters for example for tuning, whilst just keeping the same sample? The fact it changes the tuning on all instances of even a pad parameter sliced pad is very annoying. You have to actually 'copy and create a new sample' to get that done, apparently.
@drsauce2574

what does the create events option do when creating a new program?
@mpchead
@mpchead 5 лет назад
It's basically asking you if you want to right midi notes on the grid. According to the length of the sample and the amount of bars. Try it out and you'll see.
@drsauce2574
@drsauce2574 5 лет назад
mpc head don’t you write midi notes on the grid without it checked ?

Yes I do. But imagine I have a 2 bar drum loop that I chop into several chops. I can create events and directly create midi events without having to record them. Saves some time sometimes.
