New to the MPC (use Logic Pro and Maschine) and I have to say, you explained it brilliantly and simply without all the usual unnecessary waffle I hear from many others, well done sir, I hate reading manuals, I just wanna make sounds!
Best basic tutorial I have seen since the the MPC Ren and Studio dropped. I second Molekulasti comment about your delivery. It was indeed - refreshing - to finally watch a good tutorial without having to engage the ebonics and profanity filter. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.
Thanks for the video. Just bought MPC REN. You've saved me much time and frustration. Your breakdowns are so straight forward and user friendly. Keep posting these tutorials. The best I've seen so far!
The video to this other link will be much more helpful for creating sequences and songs.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dtRU59mK4ZY.html
Hi Wolf D Thanks so much for this video. I'm an old lady trying to learn a new trick. I just got my MPC a couple of days ago and was sitting here banging my head against the table trying to figure out how to get my MX-61 to play. I haven't finished watching the video yet, but the first 2:25 was extremely helpful to me. I will watch the rest later.
This video was so EXTREMELY helpful! I've spent the last few days learning by accidental discovery and still had many questions, this video answered many of my questions. Thanks so much!!!
This other video will be much more helpful. It's more clear and concise (because of the changes and updates to the software over the years). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dtRU59mK4ZY.html
Been subscribed for a while and man, I gotta say... your videos are the most instructive out there. I wouldn't have a clue how to use this damn thing if it weren't for you! Cheers.
Hey folks... this video is old and outdated. The MPC Software has changed for the better over the years, and what you're seeing here does not properly showcase how you currently sequence multiple instrument plugins. I would suggest that you watch this other video instead - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dtRU59mK4ZY.html
Noooooo. LOL The MPC Renaissance comes with 4 plugins (Akai calls them MPC Expansions). They are 1.) The Bank 2.) The 809 3.) The Wub & 4.) The Noise. Everything I'm using in this video are my 3rd party VST instrument plugins. BUT... the new MPC X and MPC LIVE (which are about to come out in 2017) come with a TON of AIR Music Technology VST instrument plugins. The new MPC's (and the new MPC 2.0 software) are on a whole new level.
Thanks to Wolf D's "How To Videos" I was able to purchase the Akai MPC Studio and while I'm waiting to receive it in the mail, learned pretty much all needed to know to be ready to setup, sample, Sequence, and slam some tight Ass tracks together B4 I've even got my soft and hardware. He drops simply and tight beats that show you how EZ it is to produce studio quality music, not that garbage I've noticed these other RU-vid instructional videos have on them.
Thanks for leaving this video up because I have this version as well as the newer one but this version will work on my 32bit system. This also allows more tracks than MPC beats too.
Very helpful THANKS MAN!!!!! ive had my Mpc Renaissance for about 5 months and just started making my simple rythems and melodies into songs. I will be veiwing all your MPC or music related videos. A+
Thanks for some top tips. I'm waiting for my Studio to arrive tmrw and I can start playing straight out of the box, and that's all down to you. Keep em coming dude, you explain things so well.
Outstanding --- so well done - you are a great teacher and very talented as well. I just got a Renaissance and this is such a terrific tutorial --- thanks so much
Must say, this is by far one of the best tutorials for the newbies like me. Thanks for being this lucid. Could u also explain (or point me to some other video) as to how you are doing the setup. I have a 25 key Akai midi keyboard, and a MPC studio, whats the best connectivity architecture
1.) Regarding sequencing multiple plugins... watch this other video instead. - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dtRU59mK4ZY.html 2.) Answering your question... simply connect the midi keyboard and MPC Studio to any available usb port on your computer.... or you can plug them into a usb hub that's connected to a port on your computer. Turn the hardware on 1st, and the MPC software 2nd. The software will recognize that the hardware is connected.
@@djwolfd Brilliant ..with guru's like you around .. who cares about a 500 page manual. Thanks a ton. As a continuation to this video could u also demonstrate how to add a vocal track upon this instrument track, and apply necessary vocal filters (reverb/echo etc), to make it look like a professionally recorded song. That would be very awesome
BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE HOMIE WOLF...HE GOT ME RIGHT ON THIS MPC SOFTWARE IN A MATTER OF MINUTES...YOU WONT LEARN SHIT RIGHT IF YOU TRYING TO LEARN FROM AKAI PRO...THEY WILL HAVE YOU TWISTED (NO KEITH SWEAT)...MUCH RESPECT FOR ALL THE HELP MAN...I WOULDVE BEEN LOST FOREVER...ANYTHING ANYBODY NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SOFTWARE OR DEVICE LOOK NO FURTHER...HIS TUTORIALS ARE 100% ACCURATE...#SALUTE FAM
Wolf D, what's good man. Love the tutorials. Keep up the great work! Question, are you aware of whether or not that the Software for the MPC Studio has the multi-touch virtual turntable interface like in the iMPC Pro app for the iPAD? Thanks in advance for whatever you may find out. One.
Kenya Miller Naa, it doesn't have the little virtual turntable. The MPC software has much more extensive and accurate sampling and editing capabilities. Check out my Sample Chopping video to get an idea of what sampling is like with the MPC software. AKAI MPC SOFTWARE TUTORIAL - SAMPLE CHOPPING
Worrrd up. Well, if you haven't done so yet, you should give Akai tech support a call. What you're trying to do is an absolute basic midi function so there should definitely be a way to do it. I unfortunately can't experiment with it on my end because I don't have any external keyboards to try it out with.
Hi there Wolf D , im new to the mpc scene. I have made a song in 1 sequence , but what i would like to do is split it up into like 6 sequences and play around with the different parts. Cant seem to find any videos on how to split it up and copy pieces etc.. Dont forget im a noob. Great channel so i subbed.
That's awesome man.... i want to doing to get a MPD and ableton but this makes way more sense to get... I want to get The Studio and get samples of the Motif XS for Akai
Nice work flow....and that run was funky...I'm still torn between the maschine and mpc studio to replace my mikro....def appreciate the informative vid...subbed...
Thanks for taking time to make and share this video...I have two questions for you. First, does it have different options for metronome sound/type? Second does it come with some type of rubber feet or accessory to prevent it from sliding off of a desk? Thanks.
GREAT TUTORIAL. Getting ready to get my own now. One question, will i be able to load these projects made on the studio to the MPC renaissance and vise versa?
You don't need an external sound card to use the MPC Studio. At the very least, you could just use the internal output port on your computer and connect that to some speakers / monitors. Yes, you can play notes and chords using the pads. You don't have to have an external keyboard.
Rodney D Yes. The latest MPC software update (1.5) now allows you to use the MPC Studio and MPC Renaissance as controllers for other software. There's actually a separate hardware update also.
Wolf D important to note, that when you use your MPC software inside logic, it doesn't allow you to load external vst's. Furthermore you will have to export your sequences as audio files and put them inside your logic project in order to get your mpc drums to appear on your bounced project.. - I might be wrong, got this a few weeks ago. - the MPC is awesome, :)) but i for some reason wish that it would be more integrated in Logic Pro. Im feeling like just going with the mpc software in the future instead of using logic. Good and understandable tut mate!
DUDE!!!!! Man Wolf D...u incredible bruh!!! Man U made this so digestible, very simple but yet concise!! I jus got da Touch...couple days ago....struggling...lol...even tho I'm a veteran wit da MPC 2000 and ok wit da 500.... Thanks Wolf!!!! By da way....da beat HOT!!! U inspired da he'll out of me!!! Bout to go to da lab shortly...
Ok great advice I will check it out. you mentioned you have mbox 3 . How do you like its quality & performance? I am in the market for a new device as I can no longer use my RME pci with my new computers configuration. I allways prefer pci card over usb , but im sure they have come along way in recent years.looking at mbox 3 but im not a pro tools guys. Thanks again.
Great video as always my friend :) I have a question. Can you use an AKAI keyboard as midi instrument in this software? If so, could you let us know? Thank you very much. Appreciate the answer ! :)
Awesome bro! Thank you! I was getting frustrated. I bought a new midi keyboard so I wouldn't have to use my big board with my mps studio. I had a hell of a time setting up the keyboard using novation. I got it hooked up but it wasn't fully functional. Still need to know how to chop a sample to the keys on a midi keyboard so I can play it there instead of the mpc pads
Fantastic tutorial! It shows how nice 7 logical the workflow is with the Studio.I actually like it better than Maschine.I'm also diggin' the fact that I can start beats on my Ipad with iMPC and bring them to the Studio to finish them. Thanks man!
Dope tutorial bro..I'm a dj as well..right now I use Ableton live for my Remixes and Mashups..but I've been looking to get into best making with MPC..any advice?
DJ Rico Stylez Hola my good man. First I wanna say that this video is 6 years old and a bit outdated. This other video is a much better representation on how to sequence and record tracks with the MPC software (before the newer 2.0 software was released). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dtRU59mK4ZY.html. Secondly... I’d recommend that you cop a used MPC Studio (the original silver colored one), which you can get for about $100 bucks on eBay or Craigslist, and you’ll be good from there. You’ll then create an account at akaipro.com and you’ll be able to download the MPC software and other MPC Expansions and plugins that come with it.
Yo.... you are absolutely correct about this. I realized that the 1st time I tried exporting stems, I was experimenting using VST instrument plugins that were on different tracks. I just tried the "Separate Tracks" option again with a bunch of individual samples that were all on the same track, and it didn't split them up. I pulled out the manual again and it says that it's only capable of doing this at the "Track Mixer" level. Mannnnn... I really hope they change this up with OS 1.3.
There are numerous ways to speed up a sample. It depends on if you're trying to speed up both the tempo and the pitch.... or if you're trying to speed up the tempo, but retain the same pitch. To speed up both tempo and pitch, one option is to press the PROG EDIT button on the MPC, and then turn the SEMI or FINE knobs.
FYI.... when the new MPC 2.0 software update drops in May of 2017, it will officially be a DAW..... so YES, you will now finally be able to record vocal / real time audio tracks.
ANOTHER QUESTION I HAVE IS HOW DO I GET THE VELOCITY ON THE NOTIVATION IMPULSE TO BE AT MAX VOLUME WHEN I HIT A KEY. I CANT SEEM TO TURN IT OFF WHEN IM HITTING THE KEYS. THE MPC SOFTWARE IS SET TO MAX ON THE PADS BUT THE IMPULSE STILL HAS VELOCITY. I'M NEW TO THE MPC...AND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS AND HELP. I'M UP IN THE AM WATCHING MORE OF YOUR VIDE0S NOW
The FULL VOLUME button on the MPC hardware only applies to the MPC hardware. I think you would need to look into your Novation Impulse settings to see if you can turn off the velocity and sensitivity settings of the keys.
And..... to speed up the tempo but not the pitch, open the sample in the SAMPLE EDIT window and select the TIME STRECH feature. You would need to punch in the original BPM of the sample as well as the new faster BPM. There's also a PITCH SHIFT button in the same area which is a way to change the pitch but not the tempo.
You can sequence your external keyboard with the MPC software, but remember, the MPC is not a full Digital Audio Workstation, so you won't be able to actually record the audio from your keyboard into the MPC software. You'll need an actual DAW for that (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Garageband, etc).
Wussup DJ Wolf? Thank you for your response from my last post. I have another question. How can I load other sounds like massive and other soft ware sounds to the MPC studio. Kinda new to the MPC, so please break it down child style lol. Thanks for your assistance.
@wolf D great video. i also use the novation bass with my studio. the problem is the sound frombass plugin only comes out one speaker. dont have this problem with any other daw, only in the mpc software can you help me with this? what typ of interface for audio are ussing?
Great Video!! quick question..how do I pull up my beats/sequences that I've done? it's not a recent file so that doesn't bring it up..thanks in advance Bro!!
MPC DOCUMENTS……. The upper left area of the software screen has a drop down window. Click the arrow pointing down for the drop down window, and then click MPC DOCUMENTS.
Hi Firstly I would like to say thank you so much for taking the time to help my software is the full version I followed the steps through i lock it's full and registed to me but I want the version you have because of the track button I'm new to all this I use acid pro witch is good but unable to match pads as mini play don't have prog button I feel cheated as I payed more for this unit with built in sounds yet don't function right with much essentials any way thank you for all your advise and help just a thought with in much essentials when I try to update it says I have the latest version. I don't mind paying but I feel mine is useless and I can't create a song Thanks
Just wanted to thank you sir for making me go out and spend some cash AGAIN because of watching your videos ;) and one more thing, i have that same mouse lol
Absolutely Wolf, it gets greyed out..same here!..I thought I was missing a step or something..looks like i back to the way I used to export when I had the stand alone hardware 2000 and 2000xl..lol track by track...lol crazy rt!???
Hey Wolf D, love your videos on the mpc studio. But I have the Ren and I followed this video to get started, just wondering why when I saved my file from song mode using your step by step instructions, the Mp3 song file exported on my desktop was only 15 seconds long. I thought I recorded 32 bars through 4 sequences which would be longer then 15 seconds. Did I forget to set some kind of song/time length ?
+M.J. P Is there any chance that you might have went back to one of your sequences before you exported the audio? Try it again and make sure that you're still in Song Mode when you go through the export process. Let me know what happens?
I'm thinking Studio One should allow you to pull up the MPC as a VST plugin... then you should be able to pull up your MPC session (within Studio One) and patch the audio outputs/cables of your external keyboard into an audio interface... then route the audio interface into available audio tracks within Studio One.
Oh wow. Only one speaker huh? I don't even know what would be causing that. I'm using an Mbox 3 with a Mac as my audio interface. Do you know if you have separate Bass Station Stereo and Bass Station Mono VST plugins? I'm asking this specifically because my Novation plugin is called "BassStationStereo.vst".
Hello, my friend, excellent video, congratulations! I would like to know if you can help me in a doubt I have an MPC renaissance and when I press the Rec button it will overdub automatically after looping a sequence! Do you know how to program to stay rec continuously instead of turning overdub? thank you friend!
Dj wolf do i just watch your tutorial which is really helpful. But i want to know and you have that track you did for sale? It won't stop playing in my head. Hit me up and let me know.
In case you didn't do it, you need to select "Install Content" from the MPC Software Install Disc in order to access the 9GB of samples that comes with it.
Hi Man ! Nice video ! I Want to buy a Mpc Studio Soon But I'm still not sure of my choice ! Could you please tell me if i need an external soundcard or something like that to use it ? Because i'm using an Asus computer and it does not have a powerfull soundcard. And I'd also like to know if you can play Notes and chords, Like you did with your keyboard (the bassline and grand piano) or can I only sample with it and will I have to buy a keyboard to play the basslines, piano and every notes ?
Ali Zone51 I'm a Mac user and don't know anything about Windows PC based sound cards, so I would suggest you call Akai directly and ask them about that. Yes… you can play notes and chords via the pads without the use of an external midi keyboard. You would just need to set the Pad Bank on B or C to find the start of the chromatic notes, because Pad Bank A is too low on the chromatic keyboard scale.
I am new to the mpc studio. A lot of this stuff is over bearing and the tech support doesn't give much help. I was wondering if I can get your help setting things up. I really need it.
Ahhh... ok. Should be MPC to Motif with the midi in and out cables cuz those are the 2 devices communicating with each other in terms of the midi notes that you've played / programmed in the MPC software. What I don't know is if there might need to be some type of Midi Thru option turned on inside of the MPC software seeing that the Studio One will be the Master and the MPC plugin will be the Slave. Let me know what happens when you try it.
This was from a January 14th 2010 article, so now I'm definitely wondering if you maybe have both a mono and stereo version of the VST, and maybe the MPC Software has selected a mono version....... CHANGES IN BASS STATION V1.6 Added Stereo version of the VST plug-in. Fixed issue with authorising on Snow Leopard and Windows 7. Fixed ‘gurgling’ noise with the default patch. Fixed issue with version number.
Yo Wolf D! Is there any way you can layer sequences on each other when playing in song mode? For example, let's say I have my main drum pattern sequence, but I want to layer different sequences (piano, synths, etc.) on the same drum pattern? I'd rather not have all my sounds on the same sequence and different tracks. I'd rather just be able to layer separate sequences onto each other throughout as the song plays. Is this possible? Thanks a lot my dude you've been a big help
You can't have 2 different sequences play at the same time within the MPC software. You would need to do that in your DAW…. where you could simply layer different sequences on different tracks.
Here's another inconvenient issue regarding exporting.... if you add an insert effect to a pad within a program, the output of that pad is automatically re-routed to output 1,2 and track mixer is greyed out as an option. Therefore, that pad is no longer routed to the track mixer and thus not included in the separate export. Yea.... I gotta call Akai to find out what the status is of them changing this up. Just saw that this was brought up a couple months ago on the MPC Forums site.
Mate, fucking nice beat.👌🏻 Chuffed I stumbled across your channel. I just bought a studio I can’t use thanks to a fucked P.C. So I’m watching you play to relive the mental withdrawal symptoms I’m getting battered with! 😆 My first MPC since having to sell my beloved Ren about two years ago, and the fuckers sitting in the corner sprouting mushrooms til I can conjure up the spare money for a new laptop/pc! Fucking gutting lol. Anyway, god bless and all the best fae bonnie Scotland pal. 🏴
