The Roland 303's and 404's have awesome effects, especially when it comes to LoFi. In a perfect world, the MPC's would have the same effects, but they just don't. So, I don't see a problem with owning both. I think for certain situations, they truly compliment each other.
@def creator I'm not totally disagreeing with what you are saying. A sequencer is an essential part of beat making, and the MPC has been a staple in beat making as a sequencer for decades. With that being said, the 303's and 404's have found their place in beat making because of the sound that they can produce due to their effects. Since they have been made, there are several plugin makers who have attempted to mimic their effects because of that.
Completely agree. None of the effects in the MPC Live are remotely useful IMO, the filters, delays and reverbs sound like plastic and the Lo-fi is one of the worst. Makes my Octatracks effects sound brilliant in comparison. Almost makes the 404 a necessity.
You can't really appreciate the MK2 unless you've been banging the 404SX for years. It's mind blowing seeing all the stuff they added to the Mk2. It's like little MPC Akai now. The sample chopping, the effects, the sequencing.... CRAZY! This thing makes my old 404 look like an 82 Volvo now.
@@movieking6844 True but, the SP-404MK2 is a perfect matching piece next yo my MPC One working im tandem. (If only AKAI in a future update would give us the 48KHZ sample rate too).
the 404 works so good even as just an effects box, i often make beats on the mpc and then re-record them onto the mk2 , its got such a warm sound, and the compression is unmatched, its honestly worth its asking price even if you literally just use it as an effects pedal . i never had the 404 mk1 , but always admired that sound style and never knew where it came from until i saw the mk2 pop up everywhere, and that lofi effect on the mk2? mmm-mmmm , thats not just warm, thats buttery . i think i probably played with the lo-fi effect alone for an entire day just messing with sounds and songs i had already made, Honestly i dont think i recorded any kind of song for like the first 2 weeks of owning the mk2 , just messed with sounds and pads and effects also i love your mpc ring , that shts dope lol
If you already own an MPC that can do it all, the SP404 MK2 seems more of a nice-to-have, not must-have, to me: Fun for performance and FX processing at best, another device added to your GAS collection at worst.
SP-404 effects sound so good - I was watching all of your SP-404 MKII videos lately. Unfortunately, to get my hands on MKII here in Europe, I have to wait up to 17 weeks. LOL, what a teaser!
Great vid, Ave! Just got the MK2 a few days ago and this is exactly what I was looking for. I love the 404's messier way of making music, just get in and get your hands dirty! Sure, Flavor Pro, Lofi and XY on the One/Live II are amazing, but there is nothing like the grit of the 404 - or the live effects - even if just to use it as a live controller. 404/One together is the secret sauce! Looking forward to trying some of this! Thank you for sharing, fam. Awesome as always.
That comparison is great. Does seem like sp404 is a good beginner device. Its really intuitive, less screen diving. For someone looking to establish a solid workflow as a beginner without spending a grip of cash, the sp404 mk2 is not bad at all. Then when the workflow is there, going to like an mpc or ableton push is easier. You have a better odea on how to navigate the music creation process without getting lost in the screen.
But im canceling anyways because it seems like another sampler with slightly different sounds to me ..Im chi with my Mpc X ...I feel it kinda does the same...But good that somebody else can sample and play around with it ...Big ups too you👌brother
I got an Mpc x too. I ordered a Mk2 to use along side it as a loop and sound editor. I’m gonna run it alone and resample in sample mode on the mpc through a headphone Jack. This way I can appreciate each machine for what it is. The mk2 will be my portable sound designer that I will use to create sounds on the go.
☮️ Ave! Thank you for the sp/MPC vids. My question is would the effects from the sp be able to be exported out through the MPC when I’m completing my song? Is there any caveats with that involving how I would connect the sp/MPC or would it work just the way you have it connected in this video? Thank you again ☮️7
If akai just made a “MPC GO” or something of that nature the size of the SP MK2 with a smaller screen to compete. The mk2 just seems more fun to take to the next room instead of the live2 which can be a hassle
@@AveMcree are you talking about the 500? It flopped because it had a terrible workflow, not because of its form factor. I wanted to love the 500 so bad. I still have unprocessed trauma from that machine. Or are you talking about the MPX units that they released unfinished and promptly abandoned?
Ave, please tell me there's still a sound designer position open. I was sick the pass two weeks and just found out. Getting some mpc expansions together now.
Yes, make sure you watch that video to get all the information... Thanks heres the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Twcg7z8dl4.html
I finally got my SP404 MKII. Totally new to it but do you have a video that goes in detail over the ways to hook up both the MPC and SP404 MKII ? I tried to follow along but maybe I’m missing a small step to get my MPC One & SP404 MKII working together.
hi, can i ask you a question. are undecided whether to buy SP or the MPC. I'm not very interested in using it live and in common I would still interface with Ableton to finalize my works. I really like Lo Fi music but I'm afraid that SP is too much into Lo Fi music and can't get out of this genre. while for the MPC I'm afraid it's less immediate, more awkward to move (but it's not very serious) and that it's like having a computer and that it has many functions but superfluous if you intend to interface with Ableton. what do you recommend me?
Would you say that F/X and overall sound of the SP404mk2 sounds less "lofi" than the SP404 MK1? I don't own either but watched a bunch of videos and it sounds that way to my ears but not sure. Looking for the authetic lofi sound. What do you think?
how do you save a effect on top of a program track in the MPC after you finished the effect from the sp 404... I know how to do it in the sampler but not over top of the track....
hello thank you very much for your video. unfortunately I don't speak English. I speak Spanish and French. I would like to know if you have any video where you give advice or tips to make the mpc sound like an sp404 and some beginner tutorial for the sp404 mk2
Is the 404 doing anything here you couldn't do with the MPC alone? Even if you it's just something unquantized drum loops, I think you can use MPCs sampler. Or bounce the sequence out to wav
Hey Ave. Do you know where to get Drum Trap Kits, Neo Soul Kits or Drum Samples?! Maschine user coming into MPC since the standalone is a bit cheaper than Maschines
Thanks for making this vid Ave, hopefully Roland does a firmware update to allow 44.1khz sampling instead of locking it at 48. Is that De La beat using a Dreamcast boot-up sample? Sounds like it was slowed down but dope nonetheless...
Really AKAI should open up different sample rate support here as they did with the MPC 4K. (The more expensive machine should have other sample rates. That's a no-brainer).
