Such a cool machine, I grew up during the 80s with lots of Synth Music. Now in my old age i have the urge to get creative, this seems to be an ideal starting point.
This is the VERY BEST VIDEO 👍 to explain this fantastic keyboard. I got mine yesterday... Watched some parts of the video many times and now I know it all in and out without even reading the manual. Excellent performance.Your explanations are so precise and well put...My conclusion you are an excellent teacher . Kind regards Chris
He is one of the few who has understood the interest of presenting it without a computer, it is the ideal gift for those who want to start music or a tool such as a notepad while traveling for example.
At 4:27 , he has the arpeggiator turned on and then touches one note(F) and we hear a three note arpegiated chord. How did he do that? I thought you have to hold down the chords to get it to arpeggiate. Did i miss something? Can anyone help? Thank you!
too bad it doesn't have a looper or sequencer. it would be simple to add those features somehow. not sure why these devices always leave out the looping function. Cant use it to jam with, if there is no looper, would have to get an external looper pedal, and wire the audio, and then a separate monitor speaker, that is a large setup, might as well get a real arranger-keyboard at that point. MPK Play could easily include a looper inside to provide it easily..
Cons: So lame for it to have sounds but not to have a 16-channel 16,000 note sequencer like every hundred dollar port sound did in 1990. And MIDI in and out, it being a controller and all. Pros: I love all the functionality built into this. I love that it has a joystick. I love that ut has a speaker and i love that it tdkes batteries (everything digital shoould take batteries and have speakers). All that is good about this device serms perfect for driving all the bits that are glaringly missing: a sequencer and MIDI ports. So close, Numark!
Thank you for the accurate description. I was starting thinking it was really better than a empty MPK, but in real it has too many (stupid) limitations, so it is to value very well if to buy this with sounds or without. Sure.. it could be great if it was able to produce rithm patterns to use as simple drum machine base to practics on it. Otherwise all drum section is really totally useless. and in consequence all the keyboard.
Is it possible to program it to have the internal sounds on lets say the keys, then the pads can send midi signals, or the pads keys as sounds and the XY can be a midi controller? Or is it just either all internal sounds or midi signals?
I’m trying to figure out how to use the samples stuff from Akai and have it recorded to the software. The software only shows the keys button being pressed but not being put on the recording board
Hi! Thanks for asking! The headphone output will absolutely be clean and noiseless if run to headphones or a stereo line-input (Aux input) on a mixer, powered speakers, or similar devices. Though, be careful not to set the headphone output volume too high if connecting to a device other than headphones. We would not recommend connecting the output directly to a guitar or bass amplifier.
Hello. Can anyone please help me with these 2 issues that I'm having with my MPK mini play? 1. When the arpeggiator is on, it repeats just one note when I play. For example, when I hit the G note, it plays G-G-G-G-G-G.... There is no ascending or dercending of any notes as an arpeggio should sound like. 2. I don't understand what is the function of the TAP TEMPO button. Nothing happens when I push it. It just blinks when the arpeggiator is on. Thank you.
Hi, you say that youre using an 1/8' output to a mixer. I tried plugging mine into either a guitar amp or via a looping pedal, but just got nothing. Is there something i'm not following or doing ??
s there a way to transpose the keys in semitones +/- on the Mini Play MK3 without using the computer? I can see the Octave +/-, but how do I transpose in semitones on the hardware itself?
Thanks, but my question was about altering the overall tuning of the internal sounds from standard A=440 hz so that all sounds shift to a different pitch together, like tuning a piano to a different tuning fork. My understanding is The X Y button only alters the pitch of a note that’s played, not the overall tuning.

Those notes are octaves. So there's no "chord", just several F notes in different octaves. You control the span of octaves for the sequencer by holding Arpegiator On/Off and pressing keyboard keys with OCT labels. He explains it at 6:06.
Hi Davide! Yes, all versions of the MPK Mini Play come stock with all 128 instruments & sounds in the standard General MIDI sound set, as well as the 10 included drumkits.
hey i know this video is old and all and i probably sound dumb for asking but does is work with a DAW like FL Studio? what i mean is can i use the presets on the midi on my DAW?
Hey there! Yes, the MPK Mini Play will work as a MIDI controller with FL Studio or any other DAW. We recommend consulting official Image-Line documentation for setting up MIDI controllers for use with FL Studio, but here's a support article that can help you with the basics (note that this article is for the MPK Mini MK2, but the basic guidance for setting up & selecting a new MIDI controller is virtually identical): inmusicbrands.force.com/maudio/s/article/Akai-Pro-MPK-mini-mkII-Complete-Setup-with-FL-Studio
Can you lock the keys to scales on this unit? For instance - is there a setting so all the keys play in major, minor, pentatonic, etc scales only? If not, is that an available option on the regular MPK mini 3?
يعني اشتري ميدي كيبورد .ب 4000الاف جنية ولازم اشتري منتج من ابل اي باد مثلا 40000الف جنية عشان اشغل عليه الميدي كيبور . يا أخي احاااااااااااااااااااااا
Mod stick is rather a stupid design. How can you use it when you only have two hands, has no way to make it stay where you place it. I used 3M hooks and a hair tie. I have no idea how these kinds of people even have a job with that amount of logic.
"I used 3M hooks and a hair tie. " - that made me laugh. but if it does the job then it does the job. i assume it wasn't their intention in first place.
