This is my unboxing video of the Akai Professional MPK249 Mid Controller keyboard.

I'm John Green, Ireland based, Dub Specialist. I want to share some of my experience with up-and-coming producers and home-recording enthusiasts in order to have fun and improve our music.
I've been recording new tunes every few days so expect something fresh and exciting every Tuesday and Friday at 3:00pm GMT
This year I'm moving towards hip hop, lofi type beats and upbeat pop as the genres are very exciting. So far, I've released plenty of no copyright, royalty free bass heavy instrumentals and expect to do a lot more in the future. Background music for vlogs.

I just got a mpk 249 I wanted the 261 but they where sold out in warehouse. I didn't want to back order.

I did too! you can play it with 2 hands, which is better than a MPK25, but thing is, if you use a sampler like the an mpc, the MPK25 will sit real nice in front of it. They are almost the same size! If on the other hand, you don't need to travel with it, the MPK49 is pretty awesome and was also my personal preference since most of us hardly ever visit the really high keys. How'd you like it?

@@oldschooljohnny I like it alot I don't have it sitting on a desk though I put it on a keyboard stand and it sits nicely, i also have the mpc one aswell. What made me go ahead and get it was it was on sale at guitar center for only 349. I was shocked and surprised they had an mpk in store. They didn't have the mpk 261 like I'd preferred but the deal was to good to pass up so I bought the mpk 249. It was better than ordering on line and waiting a week to get it when it was an mpk right there i can take home on the spot. Besides there where no mpk 261 in stock at that moment and I didn't want to back order and wait weeks to get it. Besides they do the samething it's just less keys. I still plan on getting the 261 though I rather more keys.🤷🏾‍♂️

I have a question for you: can you use the beat pads on this Akai model to control EZDrummer 2? I'm looking for a MIDI controller that can both control Reaper & EZDrummer 2 to record my guitars on some quick backtracks/drums.

You'd have to check the specs, I have only tried it with the Roli software, when I tried to use it with Bitwig, it didn't record touch sensitivity at all, just on or off. That's why I resold them.

I use the pads inableton fine, had to change the note settings for every pad manually for them to match right. You also have two output channels so you can a-b the pads to two different drum racks using the banks. the pad sensitivity needs global tweaking to get better response

To be honest I started using a cracked version of ableton and I thought, there has to be a better way. So I used the 8 track version of the software and fell in love with the simplicity of it all. Maybe the layout is a little funky, but the functionality is unbelievable. It's like DAWS for dummies.

I haven't been able to get the pads to work with GGD,really frustrating.

I couldn't get things to work properly either, but once I changed a setting for midi to be INTERNAL not external, all the arpeggiator, pads etc worked. I had it set to external because I thought I had to send MIDI to my PC via the MIDI ports on the back, FALSE. All you need is the USB cable connected to your PC and the PC does the heavy lifting. Also, the keys should pretty much work out of the box, but you won't get full functionality until you find your MIDI CONTROLLER on the MIDI CINTROLLER list somewhere under PREFERENCES.

@@oldschooljohnny Amazing, I have it set to external because I thought it needs to be for the DAW to handle the lifting.

@@oldschooljohnny it should be external, but the arp won't operate unless the track is running.

I reprogrammed the midi notes of all 16 pads to match abletons drum rack and it works great now on most plugins
