This synth has been getting quite a bashing but I can't think of one that has a sequencer as useful as this. Yes, it does sound a little flat but that's what EQ, compression and reverb are for... I think I like it!

+David Holmes - well, the company hasn't done much to endear themselves to people outside of the MPC community, but yes, I think alot of the criticism for this particular unit seems unfair. Hard to judge the sound as this IS a RU-vid video. I'll see for myself once it gets in a store...

+Syntox One of the first people Ive seen say that you shouldn't judge sound based on a compressed video. Nice to see there are still some "technically" intelligent people out there. Ive said this so often, yet you still get people judging synth sound based on a crappy steam, how can you ever truly get an idea of what a synth can do based on mp3...

+David Holmes Its certainly getting bashed, but what I find strange is its always by people that haven't used on. I can never truly understand that mentality. Any eurorack minded person would look at this and go, well, I get 4 analog osc that are quite stable, individual outs for post processing and midi to cv/32 seq/keyboard and gate in/out for $400-500 US. It doesn't seem that unreasonable to me.

+David Holmes I agree, I like the one I had a shot of.

+Brett Anthony and the others. I couldn't agree with you all more. I'm in the market for a hardware synth think this unit holds its own when comparing it to units from Arturia, Roland and Moog. At its basic form, its still about wave synthesis and ALL of them are going to sound similar with slightly different nuances to each one. My opinion is that it comes down to personal preference for brand, usage and studio space. Haters are going to hate. Cheers guys!

I got a chance to play one at a local music store and the bass was thick, but I didn't get the wow factor from its sound I was hoping for, BUT for the price you can't expect too much. I do think it is built very solid, the keys felt great.

If you have $250 to buy a Timbre Wold, save it & save another $250, & then buy a Korg Minilogue. (or a Microkorg/XL/XL+, or a Waldorf Blofeld, Novation Mininova, Roland System-1 or JD-Xi, etc)

played with this today at GC... out of every analogue synth they had there this was the only one that made the same noise no matter what you did. What's up with this thing?

Minilogue kills this!!

Yeah, agreed... but I just got one brand new for $199. It's super solid & the limitations are kind of inspiring.

If you put the output into a vibrato pedal ( I used a Behringer UV300 ) it kinds of makes up for the missing LFO, worth a try.

Of course you know he meant Sawtooth... but you actually can create a "Squaretooth" via Cross Modulation/Wave Folding/Etc! :]

just a thought but if you view this as a ( £199 UK) midi/CV controller with very basic on board synthesis it makes a cheaper alternative to Roland A-01 albeit without Bluetooth midi

I just bought a TimberWolf but I'm haveing a hard time finding information on the 4 mono sequenced tracks. Can all 4 be sent through midi, pretty much giving you 4 sequencers?
@gear4musicguitars
@gear4musicguitars 8 лет назад
Hello +Hasan Odom, Yes they can. Send MIDI to channel 1, 2, 3 and 4 from your DAW. Or all for channels can be programmed from the unit itself. Kind regards, Gear4music

Anyone have any good settings to start at for a clean sine wave synth bass? I'm using this for an indie rock band for synth bass. I'm new to synths, so if I have a jumping off point, it'll ease the learning curve

This synth generates only square and sawtooth waves

Are you only plugged in a speaker, or also a computer?
@gear4musicguitars
@gear4musicguitars 8 лет назад
Hello +leonsooerensen, Thanks for the message. During this video the Timbre Wolf is plugged into a speaker and tracked directly into our studio for the best replication of audio quality. Kind regards, Gear4music
@leonsooerensen

So you basically only need a speaker,meaning I can plug it in the speaker and start playing? Thanks for the answer! Your channel's great!

Can you send external midi to each voice independently
@gear4musicguitars
@gear4musicguitars 8 лет назад
Hi +MrBoxxed you certainly can. Just set them up as individual tracks in your DAW and keep each one in mono :)

At the original $500 price tag, it's the worst buy in the world (if you want a real analog synth for that price, get a Minilogue! And if you can live with VA, you'd have plenty of good choices, like Roland JD-Xi, Roland Boutique, Novation Mininova etc.) But now that the Timbre Wolf is HEAVILY discounted (I'm guessing it didn't sell too well...), I was able to pick one up brand new for $250 on EBay. For that kind of rock-bottom price, it's a nice toy to have, even if you only use it once in a blue moon. Mind you, the oscillators aren't capable of producing a wide sonic palette, envelope controls are rudimentary (yeah, that's a euphemism...), there are no sub-oscillators and no LFO's. Even more unforgivable is that the four separate mono synths cannot be tuned, only detuned plus or minutes a semitone.

Would basically only get this for 50$ for the 4 part sequencer which is nice.Other then that.Meh.

'unique tone'.....uninspiring dull, like nothing else out there....yup, unique alright! It's proving to be a huge embarrassment for Akai, and rightly so, it's woefully boring!
@CaalamusTube
@CaalamusTube 7 лет назад
Cool thing about it though, is the price reflects it's lack of popularity! I just picked one up for $199! Brand new. It's was never worth $499... particularly without an ADSR, master VCF, incremental tuning or an LFO. But a super sturdy, Analogue Poly... for $199? The limitations of the thing are actually kind of inspiring.

I bought on for $200 as well. At that price, it's a great little synth. Built like a tank, can sound pretty huge, and despite it's lack of features you can get some pretty cool sounds. The sequencer is pretty dope, too.

No LFO! I won't buy a synth that has no LFO. I wouldn't even buy one that only had one.
