The 70th anniversary of the 5th Pan African Congress, 1945 was commemorated in Manchester in a three day conference from 16-18 October 2015, where Akala gave a totally thought provoking final presentation on Sunday 18th. More info at firstcutmedia.c... .
AKALA: the BAFTA and MOBO award-winning hip hop artist, writer/poet and historian ‘Akala’ is a label owner and social entrepreneur who fuses unique rap/rock/electro-punk sound with fierce lyrical storytelling. Inspired by the likes of Saul Williams and Gil Scot-Heron, over the years Akala has developed a stellar live show; headlining 6 UK tours as well as touring with the likes of Jay-Z, Nas & Damian Marley, M.I.A. and many more. Akala is more recently known for his compelling lectures/seminars, journalism, TV presenting and script-writing talents and has gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic and literate talents in the UK. Akala has also featured on numerous TV programmes promoting his music, poetry as well as speaking on wide ranging subjects from music, youth engagement, British / African-Caribbean culture and the arts as a whole. In 2009, Akala launched the ‘The Hip-hop Shakespeare Company’, a music theatre production company which has sparked worldwide media interest since its inception.

Man, I would like to hear the Q+A. Akala is one of the most talented and intelligent people I've come to experience in my life, and I would definitely love to see his interaction with the audience. Either way, this man has inspired me to look beyond "respecting humanity" and really see the injustice that exists (and has existed) since the beginning of time. All in all, I love listening to him speak, and I hope I can, in some way, be as influential as he is.

All violations of rights are a form of theft. To kill is to take away someone's life to abuse is take someone's right to choose who they are going to have sex with and so on.

Akala I think you should do a documentary series about the history of racism, from the start up until recent times. I know TV won't give you a slot cos they won't to keep us dumb, but you get a lot of RU-vid views. It's a shame I've only seen you on TV about 3 times when you have such a large audience. And we can start a gofundme to fund the documentary. Who agrees?

It's fucking brilliant watching him talk here. After watching a few interviews and reading and learning you tend to realise akala answers the same questions and speaks on the same thing in most of his interviews as he is talking to people uneducated on the subject. But seeing him talk to a group that he knows is educated is fucking amazing. It's allows him to delve deeper and talk more in depth. I highly recommend any fan of akala to read his book natives. The amount of history you grow up not being taught is insane. A true educator and visionary. Big up akala

9:50 Although I’m white and certainly not in a place to say I relate to the experiences of black people, this is a parallel I can see with my own experiences. I’m trans, and existing in a society where you’re absolutely not the default is exhausting, mainly because you’re constantly having to explain yourself and justify your own existence to people who are generally hostile to you. Getting into any space where you are considered the default is an immense relief and ultimately gives you an opportunity to talk about your struggles without those who wouldn’t understand interrupting. It’s a powerful thing. Thank you to Akala for this wonderful talk and to the uploader for making this accessible. Solidarity.

*Europeans had four hundred years to amassed their wealth in the Death Camps of North America, based on forced labor of enslaved Africans. There's no way we could do the same today; due to the inhumane nature of human enslavement and even if we could, the European wouldn't allow us to. Therefore, the only real SOLUTION is what's listed below.* *The circulation of money within our community begins with this concept; by generating the INITIAL capital to fund new and old businesses.. etc. etc. What we need to create is a Black Financial Institution that collects very small amounts of money and redistributes it, to fund Black Economic Advancement projects; all across the US!* This is the *EMBRYOGENESIS of Resurrecting Black Wall Street:* The only solution against white supremacy racism, is the invariable *practice of True Black Group Economics:* *One million Blacks for Economic Empowerment* First layer: *one million employed blacks pledging $1.25 a week to create Capital to fund new and existing black businesses in every State. 20,000 employed blacks per State is all that's needed to begin.* Second layer: *all funded black businesses donate $100 a week to generate more Capital to fund larger manufacturing companies, provide transport, create our own sport leagues, vocational schools, health centers, livestock, farms, whole food stores, bakeries, farmers markets, groceries, delis, even medical marijuana grow operation, credit unions, gas stations, import and export, etc. etc.* Third layer: *politics, take total control of city (or State) government where we have the majority population.* *I recommend you watch this video (Below) the importance of having a legitimate Black Charity (Group Economics) and the threat it poses to structural racism:* *ASHE! BUFNY was founded in 1979 as a mechanism to organize the human and financial resources of Black and minority people to participate in their growth, development, and empowerment, by utilizing the operational principles of self-help, mutual aid, volunteerism, and venture philanthropy. Prior to developing BUFNY, Mr. Eady worked for 15 years in the fields of Social Work and Education, holding such positions as Assistant Professor at Medgar Evers College, Director of Admissions and Recruitment at the Norfolk State University Graduate School of Social Work, and Manager with the City of New York. As the leader of BUFNY, Mr. Eady organized and broke through corporate barriers to gain access to workplace charitable solicitation. His efforts led the self-help organization to a high level of participation in payroll deduction systems at such corporations as IBM, New York Telephone (Verizon), AT&T and Bell Laboratories (Lucent Technologies). He also organized access to payroll deduction systems in City, State, County and Federal agencies of New York Millions of people all over the country now benefit and have greater freedom of choice due to Mr. Eady’s pioneering efforts through the thousands of charitable organizations that followed his lead into the payroll deduction marketplaces."

I would love to sit in on one of Akala,s lecturers I mean you could just pick a random day and not look at the theme of the lecture and still be guaranteed to come out much smarter with a deep and informed knowledge of the history of Slavery or the civil rights struggles in the mid sixties, or even the history of Pan African schools and the benefits a well educated population bring to social structures with in our multicultural and three tired class system and a if your really lucky maybe another lyrical flow. The fact is the man is a great role model When sixteen year old,s are listening to Akala and educating themselves the battle is half won.

An Afro man overstanding Irish-collaboration is a level of empathy I he didn't expect him to have but I can reciprocate. *Confering in our colonisors language saddens me*

Great discussion. He talk about partner. We call it Sou Sou in Trinidad, Guyana box, and Jamaica a partner. It's nice to hear Akala talk about that 45:47 in this discussion.

+tumelo918 the audience Q+A was officially NOT filmed so as to free up people from expressing whatever they wanted to, as requested by the organisers. BTW the Q+A was great as you might imagine.

Zimbabwe has a different mentality towards the colonial system. there's a minority who are not woke . Zim needs all these black books and more . that would completely cleanse the minds.
