The battle field imagery is meant to communicate the hyper-competitive culture in South Korea that forces most students to study long hours and how it leads to loss of childhood and contributes to South Korea's high suicide rate. Some hints for this are in the scene where the students are holding books but still have papers falling on them and lines like "Why couldn't we see we needed love rather than money" and "You, who rush up the mountain , Not even knowing you’re out of breath". Its actually more of a commentary on war. How the decisions adults make affect kids. Especially the line, are bullets and blood all that it takes in a war? The Russia-Ukraine conflict makes this hit harder. And for Koreans, the generation that experienced the Korean Civil War. I guess that aspect is why the imagery is in black and white.
The song is open to interpretation, Chanhyuk added a line about wearing masks so people could relate it to the pandemic experience, if they wish too. Having said so, in my opinion, these are the interpretations that make more sense: 1) It's a song in which the narrator tells war stories to children, like a bed time story, but without romanticising war or making it sound like an heroic epic tale of patriotism and glory, or good versus bad. Instead of that, it's a storytelling that teaches young people the reality of war: that it's painful and ugly, that there are no winners, that the trauma soldiers and civilians experience stays with them until they die, way after the battle is over. 2) It's a song describing the experience children have in war. War told from the perspective of people who are born or raised in countries where violence is prominent. Maybe even minors who enlist and go to war. Explosions, firearms, ashes, wreckage. That's why, there's descriptions of sensory experiences related to the battlefield (seeing your surroundings through the smoke of destroyed buildings, hearing the sound of gunshots and screams, etc). These things don't disapear if they close their eyes and cover their ears for a while, they don't disappear if they go to sleep, the next day the horror is still there. It's not a movie or a playstation game, they can't turn off the TV. 3) It's a song relating how some people are forced to become adults since they are small, due to external circumstances or sociopolitics. Lamenting that some kids don't have the choice to act like kids, reminding people that they should enjoy and treasure their chilhoods, because not everyone has that chance. Don't try to grow too fast. I guess it could be seen as a commentary against war.
This mv basiclly tell us that the view of kids in this world how the system force them to compete each other (school/exam) and on this song akmu as brother n sister who give an advice to their young siblings while lee sun hee as mother who comfort you need whn you fall down..
AKMU is the cleanest image in yg. They started music in the first place because the whole family went to Mongolia when their parents were missionary, and when they went out to do missionary work, the only thing they could do in Mongolia was playing chords. When I came back to Korea, I auditioned for K-pop stars, won the championship, and joined YG. Four or five years ago, an interviewer asked me if alcohol helped me make music, but I said it was worthwhile to make music with a clean mind. It's so clean.
@@trizkin6735 Because of Burning Sun Gate, Yg's moral image is bad in Korea. But Akmu is the complete opposite. And yg had a lot of drug cases before, so his moral image is not good.
