As a white guy that really appreciates black culture I just realized something profound. Black people still have a very distinct cultural makeup in most areas of the US yet they've been here hundreds of years. No other group of people can make that claim. That takes real cultural independence to stand apart and not let yourself be absorbed by the masses.
