I love my akubra's, just purchased my 3rd, Lee kernaghan anniversary addition, great strong hat. Thankyou Akubra for making such an iconic piece of wear.
Just bought another Rough Rider in black. Been wearing Akubra since I was 6 years old. 48 now and still have my first one.The best hats hands down in my opinion. Keeps me warm in winter and the 40 degree Riverina sun of me in summer I won't let another brand touch my head.
Wow what an absolutely fantastic story to listen too. I had no idea just how much work went into creating one of these iconic hats! Proud to own my snowy River hat and will definitely treasure it! Thanks so much for a great video
Great video. I couldn't do that job day in day out. Too much mindless repetition. My hat goes off to those employees! Probably explains why they're so bloody expensive.
Are the there any youtube videos showing the complete inventory of available hats ? I'm not so concerned with sun protection , as I am with rain protection ( I work at night ) The main concern I have with the hat I have with the hat is the care of the brim when Im working . ( I drive a truck , and Im afraid it won't hold it's shape & get very dirty )
A more recent video from Akubra suggests that they now use rabbit fur imported from Europe rather than producing their own fur from hides (presumably produced domestically). Why don't they use Australian hides and fur for their felt?
Back in the day, everyone and his mum shot invasive rabbits in New South Wales. More recently, the supply of rabbit pelts has become more unreliable, through a combination of less people working the land. (Much larger farms) and introduced diseases such as; mixomitosis to help control rabbit numbers. There just isn't the reliable amount of rabbits around. Which, for Australia as whole is a good thing, but not for Akubra.
